  • @penukenuke I'd say maybe as an expansion to the Maiden Voyage only though. That initial skeleton galleon encounter isn't really enough to show how the ship combat works

  • @penukenuke said in Notorious VS Pirate Hunter KARMA SYSTEM idea:

@a10dr750 you 100% right not enough people have time to play this game, the game needs some sort of playground mode like fortnite has where you can enter and practice for unlimited amounts of time, could even have the damned galleons for target practice

Yeh, it's crying out for a practice area maybe even introduce a competetive edge but no fear of really losing anything - rewarding people even for coming last. Hey, they could call it Arena..

  • @penukenuke said in Notorious VS Pirate Hunter KARMA SYSTEM idea:

@burnbacon its quiet and easy explanation actually. Some people don't have the time to play this game at a competitive level and practice for hours a day and most pvp players don't relize that if they don't start helping new players learn the ropes of pvp, eventually adventure mode will just turn into an infinite game of arena cause pvp players rarely wanna do pve or live events and just wanna wait for someone else to do all the work

I like to steal because it's more fun to interact with others in competition than otherwise, plus it can make me more gold in general.

But, make no mistake, I am a PvEvP player. If I need to do something company specific, I can do it better than 99% of the crews I sink. What does every player do when they want to grind out a faction? They do it themselves. It's not a good use of time to hope you can get OoS-specific loot out of a steal. Same goes for live events, whatever that means (for instance, you can't steal grogmanay completion from someone).

Most people who PvP have already completed what you're trying to do and just are in it for general gold/reaper reputation/competition. Remember, the intended playstyle is PvEvP, so those PvPers were once noobs going through the same thing you are. Except they've risen above just PvE.

  • @penukenuke said in Notorious VS Pirate Hunter KARMA SYSTEM idea:

@ghostpaw well if your a person who actually does the live event as reapers and gets the loot then good for you but that comment can swing both ways as I have sailed on a reaper brig where everytime I suggested doing a live event or any sort of pve to actually aquire some loot it felt like I was asking a 10 year old to eat there vegetables...... ended up leaving the crew with only a 300k profit which is good but uhhh prolly would have been better if we actually got the loot instead of waiting for no one to grab it.

And what's even funnier about your comment is that pve is the back bone of this game. without it, this game would just be a buntch of toxic players sweating there balls off not going for any sort of reward but a ego boost in a virtual reality

Did I say we don’t need PvE in the game? Most of us do PvE content until we see a potential target worth trying to steal from. The game is not divided into sheep and wolves. PvE is also not the back bone of this game. It never was. The core concept began out of a love for survival games like DayZ. The PvE elements of SoT trick you into caring about the loot you acquire because you put in some effort to get it. But PvP is also a core aspect. Without it then we are all bunch of archeologists and FedEx drivers hauling stuff around the map without meaningful obstacles. Like a person playing Among Us in single player mode. It isn’t one part or another. It is the emergent properties of the game that result from the combined aspects.

@great-1-oak anytime man, I don't think pvp should stop but I think pvp players should definitely help or allience up with less experienced players so they can pass on some knowledge all the while still getting pvp from defending a less experienced crew. I also think there should be a new emissary kinda like a vanguard where there is a bored like the buried treasure one at every outpost and if you have this emissary raised other crews can view your crew on this "vanguard" bored and hire your crew for safe passage threw the sea of thieves. It would be a perfect way to have less experience players team up with more experienced players an pvp players can still search and find crews doing live events with loot and new players would have more confidence out there knowing someone is there to help them

Why though? Any loot on your boat is worth less if you hand in than if I hand it in. People need to get experience by playing and learning. This means sinking and dying. If people are unhappy with their losses they shouldn't keep as much loot onboard.

A few guidelines for the non-pvpers.

Do not carry more loot than you are willing to lose. This may involve going out of your way to sell more often, but it will lessen the sting of losing a boat full of loot.

If it would take you less time to get equivalent loot than to run it into the red sea just fight and get it over with, you might learn something.

  • But PvE only players do have the freedom to do what they want? They don’t have to get sunk, or want to, for that matter. But, it is very easy to run away. Not towards…
    A w a y
👈Whichever way takes you opposite the other ship👉

  • @great-1-oak said in Notorious VS Pirate Hunter KARMA SYSTEM idea:

How come one group has the freedom to play they game the want and are good at while the other can’t.

Everyone has the freedom to play exactly how they want to play, but that freedom stops at how other players react to your playstyle.

PvP oriented players are free to log on and try to hunt down every ship on the server, but if every other ship on the server wants to run, drive by sell their loot and then log off they are free to do so.

PvE oriented players are free to log on and try to only do quests, avoiding all conflict, but if every other ship on the server wants to hunt them down and sink them they are free to do so.

  • And in the end nothing has changed, people buy a pirate game and don't want to be attacked by pirates.

  • This is a great idea for any other game... Maybe? But definitely not for Sea of Thieves

  • @great-1-oak
Do you want justice for a pirate's crimes on the seas? Then be that justice yourself. You have full capability to attack the attackers, take vengeance on the spawn campers, and report the toxic peoples on your own initiative. And they generally have some good loot aboard as a paycheck.
So slap on that mercenary/hunter livery/clothing set and sail out in search of wrongdoers... or their victims to accept a "bounty" from.
Who knows, it could be fun! I might try it myself.

Lol I love the sarcasm of this post.

Honestly the biggest holdup for having some sort of practice area is the waves and all positioning info is handled server side. So any private session would have to spin up a virtual server somewhere. Maiden voyage I think gets away with alot because most players only play it one time and done plus it is a fairly small instance with few moving parts.

To get something on the levels of Tarkov's offline mode I think would be perfect (you can even turn PvE off so you could just learn the map/explore or take nice screen shots, no progression though) but would require sessions be spun up on individual systems (something the Xbox of any generation is just simply not built for, along with many PC gamer's rigs)

I do know private sessions are coming as well but these don't really fill the same void as they are paid per use.

In the end, any type of ranking/bounty/MM/etc. system in this game will always be massively flawed by how the game actually tracks things. Baiting would be massively advantageous to seasoned players, smurf accounts would be super easy to make and use, and at the end of the day the target audience of new players or PvE oriented players would still be left getting into fights they don't want or can't win.

  • @captain-coel "get your experience by sinking and dying"...... oh shoot sorry, I get it ill just get good, not tying to make fun of you but that's more of a way for your to practice more then letting others who dunno how to pvp practice lol

  • @ghostpaw so you would be bored without pvp I get that but there are a lot of other players who aren't bored with just collecting cosmetics lol and I'm sure some of them would love to pvp but have no way to practice.... and don't tell me the whole "they should turn around and fight then" cause that's just an ego boost if you thinking every person you fight has the skill level to sink your ship and kill you or your whole crew. There's no way to practice pvp for extended amounts of time where you can actually learn, what's that sound?, how to I react to a ship broadside?, whats the best way to counter double gunning?, when should I use cursed cannonballs?, and I never made any comments on how you play the game my guy. I was just telling you that most reaper crews I've been on ignore live events cause "they take to long" once again not sayin thats how you play "if your one of the people who will actually do the live event and get the loot then good for you"

  • @wagstr arena was a pitt of sweaty pirates, i couldn't play that game with out being spawn camped everytime. Definitely need some sort of practice area where players and can learn how waves and cannons work.

  • @targasbr rare is very good at advertising other crews working together ey? How may tines have you seen 2 galleon parked side by side in one of the their promotions? Yet they never wanna talk about pvp

You need to go back and read what I wrote. You’re putting a lot of words in my mouth. Feel free to make whatever points you want, but quit pretending I am saying half the stuff you are pushing against. You appear to be having an argument with yourself.

You guys should feel honored. He is straight up ignoring any point I make. Must be built on too strong of a logical foundation for him to try and pick apart lol.

  • @ghostpaw not putting words in your mouth now c'mon no need to be a hypocrite, just letting you know that a common response i get is flawed cause its fueled by ones ego and not by actual facts.

Look, I realize some folks enjoy bowtie pasta. That’s fine. But don’t tell me what kinds of trees I have to climb. This game has tons of places to bury empty tuna cans. “But I like my crew to be shaved dolphin-smooth” you say! Right? That’s just pride messing with your head. Not everyone likes a smooth bear or kitten. With all that said, there is enough wood in the game for rotini pasta too!

No need to talk about PvP when the game's purpose is clear. It would be like having to warn that there is sausage in a hot dog.

It's called devils roar, really quiet usually up the top end or you can indeed practice in most of the map really provided you don't draw too much attention to yourself and keep an eye out. Big sea you see and not many ships..

  • @penukenuke We all didnt know how to pvp in this game once. We learned by playing. Yes there is a point where getting good is part of the answer.

  • I always see many people blaming many factors like lack of time. It's common to see people complaining "he spends the day playing, that's why he's better than me". Sometimes the person doesn't spend the day playing, many of the best players I know are casual, have jobs, family, play many times only at night after daily tasks.

Sometimes it's how a person organizes time in the game. If two people play 10 hours a week but one plays Arena and the other runs even with a Reaper emmissary, it's easy to tell which one will play better.

  • @great-1-oak

I wouldn't really like a karma system personally.

I spend most of my time PvEing with only occasional PvP but i do do both.

When i'm PvEing and i see a ship on the horizon i usually go over and say hi, maybe give them some loot after handing them the Dog O Peace but i also sometimes rock up to a dock at an outpost and see another ship docked and realize i'm to lazy to sail to another and just sink them to save time.

Now while i don't like the karma system i do sort of agree that PvE players need a better way to defend themselves from the PvPers or in my case... a bad case of the lazies, other than gettin gud or running away.

I really liked this videos idea for a new faction called The Twisted Knife. https://youtu.be/O6QzWmYZ0Ow?t=242 as it would make almost every player happy IMO.

That being said i'm sure someone will take issue with the faction idea as there's no pleasing everyone.

Raises a grog Anyway, don't let the people raking you over the coals in this post getcha down and if you see me swimming towards your ship with a dog in my arms... DON'T SHOOT!

  • @cpt-redmane I’ll keep an eye out for you and your dog! It nice to hear a respectful debunk of the idea. I don’t believe one person is going to have the complete answer but by tossing around ideas and working together we might just come up with something new. Hope to see you out there in the high seas one day!

  • I think it´s a good idea and something that would make the game more spicy, but I don´t agree with a lot of the PVE points. The people would stop playing the game either way, this game would be totally boring if it was just voyage. The voyages are just cookie cutter and aren´t really fun. Also, marking them on the map is a little extreme, how about this instead? Instead of being marked on the map maybe an NPC on an outpost would tell you what region they´re in.

  • @sleepysnowwolf I like that idea!

  • I like the idea of a bounty system it would be cool to hunt down bad pirates yarrr

  • @sleepysnowwolf it’s a little presumptuous to think the game would be boring to everyone because it would be boring to you personally lol. I’ve been killing the same bandits on Skyrim for 10+ years. Hundreds of hours in animal crossing and sims lol no PvP in sight but still hours and hours of enjoyment

Great. Look at your map table, head towards any reapers you see, sink them and grab their flag, turn in the flag at Reaper’s Hideout to collect your prize. The system already exists.
