I dont want to start another discussion.
There HUGE difference with being hit with a rock and insta dying when on 100% health. Its a game. It should be fun. Random "one shot" death is never fun. Not gonna convince you. Just find empty DR server and sail colse to volcano. See what happens.
So you just ignore the methods I've provided for avoiding the situation and you are back to the "one shot" argument. I've soloed the heck out of DR. I know exactly what happens, and I know how to deal with the challenges. Jump on my sloop someday, and don't do a thing. Just watch me run through an Athena voyage without getting killed by a boulder. I'm not even any good (I'm told this quite often by other players whether I killed and sank them or they got me), but I know how to avoid problems. I may die by other threats (death in the game means nothing) but not a boulder, and my boat will not sink. Especially after the place has been nerfed again. If you are consistently being killed by boulders, then your actions are putting you at risk and you just do not realize it.
Let's take this another direction. If I let someone kill me with a gun powder keg, is that unfair? Or do I have ways to avoid that nonsense? If I stand in front of someone's blunderbuss and take a shot at point blank, was that unfair or did I have ways to avoid it? If I fall from a great height and die in the game, was that unfair or was that a result of bad choices? It is the same in DR. If I get hit with a flaming boulder, I missed or ignored opportunities to avoid it.
I'll tell you what's not fun. Playing a game that doesn't meaningfully push back. It is boring as heck and it is a major reason why I have been struggling to even fire the game up anymore. I may play an hour or two a week now. I used to play it exclusively, but the challenge was sucked out of it because people couldn't be bothered to grab planks before heading into DR. They didn't want to lean how to effectively handle sniper skeletons. They didn't like being surprised or punished for lack of due diligence. So no, I disagree that DR is a waste of map space. I disagree that it is bad design if you are one-hit killed by a boulder that you had ample opportunities to avoid before it ever left the volcano.
