New Weapon Ideas!

  • In Sea of Thieves there are only 4 weapons at our disposal. The Cutlass, pistol, blunderbuss and Eye of Reach. In my opinion this has lead to repetitive PvPvE combat. Therefore in this post I hope to change that.

    • The Boarding Axe. Gone are the days of getting a face full of shot when you climb up the ladder. This new handy dandy weapon will allow you too board enemy vessels with ease allowing you to plunder and cease that precious gold or silver. As you will need both hands wielding an axe to board an enemy vessel; the Boarding Axe will take up both weapon slots. The Boarding Axe though being slower than the cutlass in striking speed; its damage output is greater. It has a larger parrying range as you are using both hands thus making it a good offence and defense weapon.
    • The Rapier. The days of slashing are over; poking and jabbing is the new fighting style! In combat the Rapier is much more light weight and maneuverable than the cutlass allowing the combater to become much more agile. Due to the Rapiers light weight nature sword dashing is much more reliable; though on the other hand Parrying range is much smaller due to how thin the blade is.
    • The Dagger. Bigger doesn't always mean better. Like the Rapier the Dagger allows the user to become much more agile than before. While wielding the dagger you still have the ability to parry but it is much less reliable than the bigger weapons. But, if you are able to successfully parry all three attacks in the melee combo you will be able to land a counter attack.
    • The Grenade. (a.k.a. Smokepot or Grenadoe) When all else fails: explosions. This new Sub-Weapon will be used to damage enemy pirates upon detonation. Talk amongst the tavern goers states that it may cause damage to the ship; but by golly if that's true that would be much to overpowered for my liking. Thus I must strictly say that it is used for pirate damage only. Due to the restraint it pirate pockets everyone is strictly forced to the carrying capacity of One Grenade only! so make it count! also, I might add; due to our mischievous ways as pirates. You must prepare the grenade manually; which takes a minimum of 5 seconds to do so. Thus preventing mass hysteria among the enemy crew.
I tried to make it so that each weapon had an ability. The Boarding Axe allows pirates to scale ships without the need of the ladder. The Rapier allows pirates to sword dash faster as its light weight and more maneuverable: and the dagger has the ability to counter attack if wielded successfully. Also if you want to bring up the Cutlass and its special ability; I would say its the Sword swim. One last thing; the Grenade is a Sub-Weapon; It doesn't deserve special effects.

  • @lunar-craze Ahoy there matey!

There seems to be a spate of these posts at the moment, please can we try and keep them all in one place, adding in new ideas there to the ongoing discussion?

    Many thanks,

just some of the more recent ones I can find with a quick search:

  • @sshteeve Thanks for the links! I truly appreciate it. But I must say most of the links are for new features like cosmetics and such. I'm looking for that bloodthirsty combat flare we all have in us pirates.

  • These are weapon ideas, but they most certainly are not new... 😅

  • @lunar-craze
I like these ideas. I think the dagger should have a low damage, but extremely fast attack.

  • Been there, done that.

  • @galactic-geek They may not be new to the idea pool. But they could still be new weapons in the Sea of Thieves! plus if I might add; the more repetitive the community is the more likely they are to add it!

Um, no. If that was true, then SoT would have been ☠ a long time ago...

  • Well, before we add new weapons, we should balance the current ones, shall we?

We really shouldn't be repetitive as it is against the forum rules to have multiple posts running. even if that does get overlooked more often than not.
You're right about a lot of my links being older or slightly different - that was sheer lack of effort to search properly on my part.

    If only people searched... :'(

  • Be great to have a sticky wiki for this topic, instead of so many individual ones.

OP - I love things that brings emergence in games and add creativity. For that Reason I think Grenades have great merit for fun and mischief. Probably worthy of their own topic.

Imagine a grenade you could plant as a trip wire trap. There would be so much fun and shenanigans with that.

  • @biter-wylie In my experience with trip-wire style traps in video games in general, they're not very effective or satisfying... It requires a good spot, time to setup, patience, a possible bait or lure, an unobservant victim, and can easily be avoided if spotted simply by jumping over it, going around it via an alternate route, or disabling it by cutting or shooting it from afar.

  • @galactic-geek

I have a long history as a sneaky Pirate going back to when I was just 9 years old. So I usually have great success with my traps.

In my experience for every sneaky Pirate that will notice a trip wire, there are two more who just run everywhere like chickens :D
