Regional log in...

  • Can you guys please put people in their own regions, the hit reg in the game is bad enough, don't need a 2 to 400 ping that has me skipping around and falling off objects randomly to help.

  • The people are separated by regions. alt text

These are all the regions where the servers are

  • @eggamer13 that's my point, put people in their own regions. I don't want to be playing on Euro servers.

  • @mc-leggers

I play with euro and american pirates. And when we load in it either takes american or euro.
Most of the time american tho.

So u might have euro's in your crew?
They get their "regional" server and u come along with that.

  • No im not going to be forced to play in my region, to choose is understandable like any other game but no one will force me to stay in my region.

  • @mc-leggers

If you create the game you are logging into your own server.

The only time you join a different server is when you join someones elses game.

If you want to play on your server everytime then you have to be the captain of the crew and invite people into your game.

That's an easy fix, a lot of games already do it, they put an option to change your region. Look how many people already can't stand having pings over 200+, it's a headache, no one wants to warp around the screen or have people warping around their own screen

  • @eggamer13 That is a nice map.... Is the Aussie Datacenter up and running already? I must be going on old intell, I have the Australian Azure DC as under construction.

  • @hynieth there is Azure.....stuff...down that way...though what it is/does/applies to SoT I have no idea...the whole networking lark could be down to wizards as far as I know... (clouds...Azure...definitely sounds like wizards to me 😂)

  • @triheadedmonkey I work for a Microsoft Retailer so I'm managing Azure Servers a lot.
I knew that certain servers were hosting the SoT service but wasn't sure on which ones (I knew the Dutch one for sure as an employee at that DC told me).
I always thought it was only the Main datacenters (the dotted ones on your map) but it apears it's slightly different :-) I'm learning so much every day

    But yeah I'm a lvl 99 Wizzard? :-P

  • @hynieth Azure sounds like a LoTR Wizard .... and he apparently lives on a cloud! :D (my knowledge of networking in a nutshell 😁)

  • There are many factors that could be coming up when it comes to routing players to various regions, only Rare really knows why.

Azure servers aren't cheap, especially for the specs needed to run a game like SoT and the traffic it receives. With server instances constantly being spun up and shut down, it may be that players are being bounced to a foreign region due to some sort of cap being reached within a region.

It could also be that it is determined the latency for a player would be better on a foreign data center than one in their specific region. I just started testing out Azure, so I am no expert and there may be countless other reasons.

  • No way. It's bad enough that they are already going to start segregating PC and XBOX players. We certainly don't need them to start segregating players by region also.

It's not segregation if you make it an option.
