Maybe something was changed along the way, but I started solo-ing a Skeleton Fortress last night. (Normally there is always human activity around the skull cloud, but not last night) Went on and battled wave after wave of Skellies and died about a billion times. Took a while, but I finally got to the last group with the captain. Defeated him and got my treasure. (First time attacking a fort after months and months of playing) As I was starting out, I googled it and many posts said that IF your crew all dies, the waves start over. Not sure if this WAS a thing or not, but just a note to all that I was by myself (Considering that "I" am the entire crew) and I died over and over. It was something like 10-15 waves of differing skellies. Not sure how many to be sure. Took me about 2hrs. haha. Anyway... there WAS an end to it and only got interrupted by one other human player during that time. He boarded my ship and killed me about 4 times before he left. He didn't care about the fort or sinking my ship.. so I was lucky.
Maybe it is known, but when attacking Skeleton Fortress your crew CAN die...
@capnfriendly the current wave starts over again...not the whole fort...so if you die in wave 5, wave 5 spawns again
@schwammlgott Hate to say it.. but no. There were a few waves where I killed about 50% to 80% of the skellies, and then when I got back, there were only the 3 or 4 to kill.
@capnfriendly my understanding was that that gem of wisdom applied not to the actual wave skeletons, but to the skellies manning the cannons. I've also found that it doesn't apply to solo sloops -- however, when I've done forts with crewmates, whenever we all die at once, the cannon-shooting skellies are there when we respawn.

Sorry, I wrote it wrong...I didn't mean the whole wave spawns again...just the rest of the skeletons, when everybody dies, they disappear and spawn new again, but only the ones that are left
