Treasure chests disappeared after ship sunk in water lost hours of grinding over 10k worth gold !!!

  • The bug wouldn’t allow my crew to touch the chests that landed in the Water after ship sunk. Some of them sunk to bottom and the rest stayed frozen in a line floating towards the ocean floor eventually disappearing . So disappointed

  • @novakane1224 Is it a bug? I was under the impression that it is random whether loot floats or sinks. I get sunk a lot - I suck. And I have watched loot sink often, but had some float just as often.

  • @evbof20187734 It is indeed a bug. I've posted a personal experience video before. I was on an island and my sloop sank for some reason "I assume I missed a hole in the mid hold." and I had around 7k worth of gold on it in treasure. Well, I went back within 2 minutes or so and found all the loot. Some of it on the surface, some in the middle like it was sinking, some on the bottom.

The only ones I could access were surface/bottom, the ones in the middle could be swam through. It is likely caused by a server desync because of the wave physics etc, but when the stuff became phantom, it basically said it was somewhere else.

  • I've had this happen, too. I just assumed it was intended. It seems it floats for a while then starts sinking. At least it did for me.

  • @airikr01 said in Treasure chests disappeared after ship sunk in water lost hours of grinding over 10k worth gold !!!:

    Very immersive :)

  • @novakane1224 go do a skull fort and get another 10K then. takes like 30 mins tops if you have ever done a hunt mission

  • @evbof20187734 all loot floats for a set period of time then sinks. You can pick it up and it ‘resets’ the float timer. I’ve done the same for 15 mins while our Gallion returned

  • How long after? You don't have a really long time to grab floating loot, before it becomes non-interactive and sinks, much like when your ship finally "sinks" and you can't interact with it any more.

Best bet is to have someone constantly re-grab the loot, as that resets the timer.

And I'm sure this last bit goes without saying, but... maybe don't carry around several hours' worth of loot. :)

  • @shakes-mcqueen I’m gonna guess 5 or 6 minuted? It started to sink so I dived down and picked it up and released it and it started bobbing around again. Hope this helps

Ps some of it sunk pretty far down, like shipwreck level deep and I could grab it just fine

  • If they ever make this intentional I would like it if there were shallows that had underwater environments, and in this area the chests would float for 5 mins then sink and not despawn for 25 more, leaving them on the ocean floor that rare has designed, but if sunk in deep waters they would just float for the 5 minutes and then sink and be lost forever. I would like it if this change in depth was shown in the map, but only based on player exploration, and that the kraken would only spawn in these deep waters. This would provide some variety in most effective tactics for piracy when it comes to looting a big haul, and just makes sense anyways. Adds more reason to dive and explore and just more to the game which badly needs any simple yet gameplay effective additions like this.

  • I can confirm now that it bugs out. Just fought off 2 galleons by myself at a fort, only to find the skull key floating in the water and not being able to pick it up -_-

  • 10k worth gold for "hours" of grinding? you do something wrong.

  • So what is the treasure timer? Does anyone know? I placed treasure around the map at various unique hiding spots and they all de-spawned, which sucked.

Some where on land others were hidden under shallow-water so they didn't reveal themselves on the surface, I placed them so they floated and struck and object to prevent from surfacing but the water was about 20-50ft deep.

  • @aaronblueeyes Ones in water will maybe last ~2 minutes if less. Ones on land will last until you change instances (assuming the island isn't close to you, I think?), so could be five minutes could be a day.

  • @novakane1224 it is a know bug since lauch, if not earlier.

i've personally reported this issue to RARE about 3 weeks back.
let's hope it will get fixed soon.

  • I've tested it, loot will sink 3 minutes after the chest has been floating on the top of the waves. That timer resets if you pickup the loot and drop it. If your ship sinks the loot sink timer wont start until the loot initially floats to the surface. Loot on land will stay forever unless you leave servers or get a server merge.

  • thanks for the information guys, this helped answer some of my questions that I asked in my posting.

If they merge/switch servers any active loot you touched ought to migrate with you IMO.

Totally sucks to stash stuff only to find it gone, and not even because another player found it.
