All Around ideas for improvement

  • Alright guys, I wanted to go ahead and put my input in here hopefully to start some good discussions and maybe help change the creators thinking and maybe get some really good content added to the game.

First of all let me start by saying all in all the game is good, kind of. the mechanics are very solid but the actual content is lack luster and I think that there are many things that could be added make the game so much better. I will put them in a list to hopefully make this thread easier to read and better allow people to comment on it.

    1. There needs to be a progression system built into the game.
this is probably very controversial but it needs to be added. I am not saying a leveling system or anything like that I am talking about a money based progression system that has a good economy and brings a point to the mindless chest hunting and skelly killing. some good ideas would be add different types of ships into the game. Example: an upgraded sloop with two guns on either side instead of one or a brig with 2 sails instead of three. another idea would be add ships with heavier guns that put two hole in a boat per shot but they go slower and turn slower in a effort to keep it balanced. now these WILL NOT be one time purchases to unlock. if you get sunk while in one of these you will need to buy another one to keep using it. they could cost 20k for the sloop and maybe 30k for the brig and would make your money have a purpose besides cosmetics. They would need to be balanced in a way so that a basic ship can still fight them and only have a slight disadvantage to were a good group could easily sink them. other ideas for money would be adding different types of cannon shot like chain shot or grapeshot, these would cost money to buy (or be rare to find on islands)to use and you could only carry a limited amount on your ship lets say 5 shots of each type. chain shot could damage the mast and mess with the sail until repaired. Allowing ships to catch other ships so they cant just run away for hours. I DO NOT think that weapons should be upgraded for pvp however swords that maybe you get from chests and guns that are RARE could do slight more damage to skellys. There are many more ideas that could be implemented the main thing is to make sure the balance of the game is not broken and that any lower ship can handle the paid for ships as long as they command their ships correctly.
    2. Pvp Bounties
My line of thinking would be similar to Divisions Dark Zone rouge mechanics. After a ship has Pvp'd someone they have a bounty put on their heads that may show up in the inn on a wanted poster it would include the last known island they where sited at and the reward for sinking their ship. This would entice players to hunt player killers and maybe even team up to take down player killers. Along this line of thinking I think that when a ship gets sunk you should be able to salvage for supplies like scrap metal and wood that can be sold to the shipwright lady for cash. This would also encourage a little pvp beyond just sinking everyone because thats all there is to do in the game.
    3. Adding AI ships into the game
If you thought I only wanted pvp you would be wrong. The pvp is very enjoyable in this game but only because the pve is lackluster. adding in AI ships with different difficulties would be very fun and could help tone down all of the pvp's if they have a difficult AI they could fight, it would also allow pve players to test their skills and improve at ship fights to help them better fight player killers. You could even add raids where you attack a fleet of ships trying to take down the flagship. if the mechanics of sinking was changed to where you can collect scrap supplies to sell you could not only make a hefty amount of cash off of these AI ships but you could also get chests off of them as well to increase your profits. This could open a new mission type which could be Battle navigation or something to where your missions are to hunt down the AI ships.
    4. Other skills
for pve their is very little to do when the money does not matter so their needs to be a point to getting money instead of just cosmetics, you could add fishing, hunting or any number of other skills that could be fun to do while digging for treasure ( you could make the fish you get and animals you hunt be a new food type if you wanted and make bannas heal over time instead of instant and make these new foods heal instantly or sell them instead) I'm not saying you should change the mechanics of bananas but you could if people like the sound of it.
    5. Ship mechanics and maybe some nerfs / buffs
I normally 2 man a sloop and have good time playing but I have noticed the sloops are a little strong right now, not in major ways but in some. I think the cannon balls should be moved below deck so that the gunner has to take a little more time running to get more ammo, also the back window might need to be removed for it allows a sloop to stay afloat indefinetly if your both bucketing water to prove this me and my buddy ran off the map and bucketed water and never sank even with all the holes we took on. Honestly, we didnt even come close the map eventually auto killed us. The same goes for brigs no matter how much damage you put on them as long as they are bucketing water they wont sink really anytime soon. so I think the buckets need to carry less water maybe be half as effective as they are currently. however if this is done I think that the planks should be applied slight faster maybe by 10-15% quicker. besides that the only thing I have noticed currently is that brigs could use a slight buff to their sails turning speeds by maybe 10-15%.

Im sure I could keep thinking of ideas but that is enough for now obviously not everyone is going to agree with me but please keep it civil because I like the game and think it has the potential to be one of the best games that has come out for a while if they are just able to improve. Thanks for reading and discuss!

    1. CREWS should be able to interact and not fight mindlessly. I would love to see a white flag (peace flag) or a skull flag (meaning hostile) when seeing other ships! I would like to introduce some kind of trading. Rare said that crews will unite arms against monsters and forts. How will that happen when there is no benefit to work with other crews atm?
    2. Clans or guilds. It was also suggested by rare that players might form an armada. Armada against what? There are like 5 ships pro server. Please expand the map and increase the player cap in the servers!
  • Well, things I would like to see:

Factions: England, Dutch, Spaniards, and so on. Pirates can ally with factions and freely hunt the others or even choose to hunt all and not ally up. A little like the boardgame Merchants and Marauders.

NPC ships: Various ships, merchants, warships and so on.

Alive NPC towns: NPC's that actually making the towns feel alive, like walking NPC's perhaps. And make them bigger (the towns).

    NPC forts (not just skeletons)

Different ammo for the cannons, like shrapnel for crew damage and chain-shot for sail damage. Sail could be repaired with cloth.

More types of ships, not just look.

Alot more skins so you can be more unique.

More mysterious and hidden places with actual rewards for finding them.

Much bigger map and more players on it.

As of now the engine and the gameplay is really good, but the sandbox lack tools to make the experience great.

  • I signed on to this site just so I could talk about this :)

I thought I'd combine a few of your ideas here. The goal is to be a pirate legend right? And the biggest complaint I hear is there is no progression. What if instead of levelling we had some sort of reputation system.

-Your reputation will vary pending on the outpost. Complete quests and help the town thrive and increase your reputation as a good samaritan. Or destroy nearby ships and earn a reputation as a feared pirate.
-The most renown with the town and the people will build a statue of you, name a drink after you in the pub and your flag sigil will be waved all over the island.
-The most feared will have bounty posters all over the town.
-Yes I said bounties. Have someone, a Royal Navy official or something, recruit pirates for privateering missions.
-The pirate with the most kills and/or destroyed ships will have his bounty posted and the bounty will increase as he kills.
-Bring the skull of the pirate and the flag of his ship back to the Royal Navy to claim the bounty.
-Maybe for added PVP and factions... well maybe sometimes each outpost doesn't get along that well and you're asked to attack or defend the town. Or something (still working on that one).

  • @davidovm16 I like that some factions would be very cool if outposts got mad at eachother, could even add a blockade style of attack to where people who like one outpost try and defend while the guys who like the other outpost attack
