How to Truly Do a Pirate Raid

My crew and I were approaching a skull fort when we noticed two galleons fighting it out for the island, we decided to join in and ended up getting sunk after a few minutes. After a respawn we noticed the cloud was gone... The fort had been completed. And yet, there were three galleons attempting to gain access to the vault. After sailing around the island in circles, eventually when it got a little calmer, I was able to sneak on the island and managed to find the key that one of the other crews hid underwater. Also fooled another enemy pirate into thinking I was simply looking for the key even though I had moved it to another location and had already told my crew to retrieve me... Had my crew swipe me up and left the area for a bit to let it cool down. Eventually two of the galleons lost interest and the third kept chasing us, but eventually also lost interest. We finally sailed back to the fort after being sure no one was following us and as we had the fort in our sights, the water turned black and the tentacles of the kraken emerged from the waves! After fighting it off and just barely escaping, we finally arrived at the fort, with none of the original crew anywhere in sight. And so, we opened the vault and claimed our treasure, without actually participating in the original raid. It was glorious!
