Advice on First Major Purchases/Upgrades for Starting Out

I've been considering what I would buy first when I can rack up a considerable amount of gold, and was kind of curious about some of the items available, and if they are worth it when considering the price, and how long it would take to save up.

First thing I was considering was the Long Eye Rifle, but there seem to be some cosmetic options, but others have a fairly large price gap between them. Is this all purely cosmetic or are any of the models different?

I'm also taking in as much info and reading as much as I can, and learning more about what the game offers, as I'm still figuring out the game...but would that be a wise choice to invest in first? Any other suggestions or tips are appreciated, Thanks!

All cosmetic, there are no advantages to any weapon changes.

@typh00nytg You already have all available items at your disposal and the items you can purchase are purely cosmetic. Hence you can choose the items you think are the most beautiful, or cool, or fierce looking, or whatever your preference may be.

The only thing you need to pay for that actually progresses you, is the improved voyages at rank 5, 10, 15 etc. These do not cost very much however, I think rank 5 costs 200 per faction, rank 10 costs 300, rank 15 costs 400 etc.

NO NO NO, he OBVIOUSLY needs a cool beard first, then a hat, as a close second. :D

I went for the jacket and hat for my first purchases because im always changing weapons therefor the skin i buy wouldnt always be displayed.

My buddy, on the other hand, is saving up for a new sail(purchased at the shipwright on the dock). Its 70k gold and he isnt spending one coin till he gets it.

Its up to you man. U can get a few small items for the price of a jacket but i think the jacket stands out more

You have all weapons from the start, check the equipment box on your sloop, it's above the ammo crate. What you buy are just skins.

Oh hell yeah! I guess there's some good to be had from the servers taking an extra hour to go back up, now I can learn more things just like this advice by hanging out in the forum until they're online, lol.

Primarily I like going after things in a "function over form" fashion, and haven't even looked if theres any helpful ship upgrades that are essential yet. Unless practically everything in the game is purely cosmetic.

I have 2 kids so my playtime is a bit hampered. My buddy is the captain and continues sailing while im prepping lunch or trying to quell the inevitable toy dispute.

I do respond quickly though when i hear, "#%@%@!! Galleon heading our way!"

If he wants to walk around in his skivvies for the next 2 weeks until he gets that sail then so be it!
