Idea : Try to open chests and sell content instead of always sell them directly

    Hello,

    First time testing the game this weekend, that was very positive for me.

    But it seems a little weird to directly sell chests currently. I really would like to open them, and see if maybe we can find a treasure, or maybe nothing :) !

    So maybe something like that at the Gold Hoarder :

    • Option 1 : sell the unopened chest, price based on chest name, and maybe small variation in price based on chest damages
    • Option 2 : you try to open and sell the content of the chest. And here multiple scenarios : nothing inside, small treasure inside (less gold than selling it unopened), medium treasure (same gold), huge treasure (more gold). Each scenario with some description (examples : Diamonds, a Rusty Boot, ...). It's better than just selling a chest :)

    Maybe we can even find inside some cosmetic items for clothing and tools, and/or news quests, new weapons, ...

    Well, it's just a little idea, but I would really like to see something like that in the game !

    Maybe when you're legendary and have your legendary pad, you could take chests there, open them and decorate the place with the contents.

    I'd like that a lot too. I love the gamble component behind this concept. The thrill to discover what's inside the chest. Because now, well, there is no surprise, it's a certain amount of gold with each chest type and that's all.

    Another way to do it would be along this line : When killing a skeleton, he would have a chance to drop a skeleton key (pun kind of intended), those keys would be rare, but they would allow you to open any chest on the spot. It would add an incentive to kill skeletons. If you'd kill someone with one, you'd take it.
    For what would be inside the chest, it could be gold, or a random cosmetic item.

    That's why i said "rare", like, 5% chance. So rare it wouldn't be effective at all to proceed that way.

    If you talk to the guy at the gold hoarder tent, you'll find that they're the only ones that hold the keys that can open chests. So something like this would probably go against lore, unless you could have some kind of access to these keys when you become legendary, like @Lucid-Stew said.

    I love the idea. Imagine this scenario:
    1- You find an "Unusual ghostly chest"
    Player: "Ok, weird, I'll just give it to the Hoarder..."
    Gold Hoarder: "Wow matey, get away from me with this cursed booty ! I don't want to do anything with this !"
    P.: "Ok... Maybe I should ask the Mystic."
    Mystic: "Is this... Real? Where did you find THIS? Whatever. You've laid your hands on a mystical cursed chest ! Who knows what lays inside ! But to open it, you will need to uncurse it... I've heard rumors about a Lich on [INSERT NAME OF A FORTIFIED ISLAND] , and these powerful beings are the only ones that could lift the curse of the chest. Beware, for incredible dangers awaits you...

    Then you go to the aforementioned island, while the matchmaking algorithm spawns 3 player ships not far from you. Whether you decide to rally with them or sink them, you were able to reach the island.

    You reach the top of the island (the place with special, weird decorations), but nothing happen. However you see a table at the center of the room, lightly glowing green... You have a hunch: you get back to your ship and take the Cursed Chest with you. Once back, you drop it on the table.

    BRRRRAAOUMMMM

    The sky turns green, voices from another world start whispering louder and louder, a ghostly mist begins to flow above the chest, slowly forming a humanoid shape... The LICH !!!

    So you kill the lich, it opens the chest, you get some rare stuff like a GOLDEN CANNON, nice sails shapes, props to put on your Legendary ship, etc etc. Possibilities are limitless.

    I'm so excited for this but I'm just imagining haha :')
