Cross-platform voice chat

  • Is there such a thing?
Voice chat on xbox is simple enough--plug in headset to controller and done.
Voice chat on PC not so much, usually people use Discord or Teamspeak or the like-which of course won't connect to xbox voice chat.
Will Sea of Thieves support cross-platform voice-chat? I would assume through some in-game voice chat that the Windows 10 version may have (that the xbox one doesn't need).

  • @void-presence As long as they run the mic through the game there is no issue. Worked fine in the alpha tests when I played with Xbox players

  • @chickent0night How do you set the mic to game-chat through pc om Xbox app?

  • @necrowaste

  • Players using third party chat apps in SoT are actually robbing themselves of one of the best parts of this game.

  • @lord-sphinktus that's not entirely true. Everyone in the 'world' can hear the game's voice chat, if you're within proximity. That makes communicating with your team impossible, if you're in a PvP situation. What do you think an enemy ship is going to do when they hear an approaching ship shouting "be ready on the cannon, I'm going over to drop their anchor?" Lol. Third party chat platforms (whether it's the xbox app (i use it most frequently for SoT, even as a PC player), TeamSpeak, or Discord) are essential to a good crew's success.

If you're not communicating at all, then you're missing out on the huge bulk of the gaming experience that SoT has to offer.

  • You can join an xbox live party on PC through the xbox app. That's how I talk with my xbox friends.

  • @wodyo they just need to fix the proximity of chat with things like going below decks cutting the chat out for a ship parked next to you, and then this wouldn’t be an issue. As is the pc chat ability to hear game chat and still talk in party is one of many advantages.

  • @a-cranky-eskimo
It's possible for xbox players to switch between the two as well, I just don't know how myself... I've only played on xbox once, lol. I know it's possible, though, because two friends of mine have done it. It might be more simple for us on PC however, because all we have to do is press the Push To Talk button, as our Xbox Party/App is always listening (no PTT option that I've found in Win settings). So yea, we can easily talk between the two, and we can type into the game chat as well.

I would like to see the PC game voice chat fixed, so the chat actually goes through my headset (as I have the option selected to do).

  • @wodyo yeah I’m pretty sure if your in a party on Xbox the only way you can hear both at the same time is if you have your tv on creating an echo, and even then I feel like being in a party disables all game chat until you switch back to it, you just see a bubble with a line through it over peoples heads when they talk. On pc you can be in party and hear both, and then just PTT when u want to do gamechat.

I agree that the communications in this game are a great part of
The fun even in combat and even if you just use party. Game chat is better though.
