Why is hate speech against women prohibited, but not hate speech against men?

  • Those are just examples.

3 of the 4 apply directly to men as well.

Even misogyny is relevant for men because men often have sisters and mothers and girlfriends and wives and daughters/nieces, etc. Holding that sort of toxicity accountable also benefits men.

People can report things even if it's not pointed out as an example.

  • @wolfmanbush
That doesn't make sense. If it's not specifically limited to hate speech against women, why wouldn't you just write "sexist speech"?

Misandry is relevant for women because women often have brothers and fathers and boyfriends and husbands and sons / nephews, etc. Holding that sort of toxicity accountable also benefits women.

Also, you should be opposed to hate speech just because it's the right thing to do, regardless of whether doing so benefits you personally.

Men being attacked for being men in random attacks during gameplay is very rare.

Women being attacked specifically for being women is extremely common in gaming.

Homophobia is one of the worst issues that men face online and offline because it is a part of multiple other issues as well. It is very common and its negative impact is far reaching for men. Pretty much every issue that men face socially and personally is worsened because of homophobia being so common.

They chose the things that happen the most in online gaming as examples. I think it's reasonable to list what they listed.

    Do companies signal? yes
    does Rare signal? yes

doesn't change the fact that some things are far more common than others, making them reasonable to use as examples.

  • They are examples and not exhaustive, as is stated just above the part you have cropped.

If they were to list all possible examples, the article would take weeks to read!

  • @look-behind-you
You ignored my previous comment on exactly this.
Why does it specifically say "misogyny" instead of "sexism"? It's the same number of words. Sexism is fewer characters. If length was really the concern, they would have written "sexism".

So what's the real reason, liar?

  • @gatorgator21961 I'm guessing the "real" reason would be trying to make something out of nothing.

  • Reply seriously.

  • I already did.

Hate Speech/Toxic Communication is not allowed.

The text does not mention men women or children.

Listing a few common occurrences as examples doesn't mean that anything other than that listed is O.K.

If they were to list EVERYTHING that wasn't allowed to be said/done, the page would be incredibly long and would take a long time to read/understand.

EDIT to add: Some times "common" sense and decency is your best friend.

When a man is personally targeted how is that mostly commonly done?

It's done with misogyny and homophobia more often than anything else. "You are a this or a that" is how men are targeted and its at the expense of others as well. It's a poison for everyone and especially the children that are taught it.

It's a huge reason why so many men refuse to seek help, to show vulnerability, to communicate in healthy ways, and to live happily within their freedom.

If you are doing this because you care about men's issues you should consider how damaging the above is, not only for women but for men as well.

  • @gatorgator21961

Uhh, can’t you just report someone anyways?

  • These kinds of complaints say more about a person than they realise. It's not so subtle.

Rare simply mentioned some of the most common examples as they're worth highlighting, it doesn't exclude other offences.

As a straight white man, I can't remember the last time I was targeted in an online game for those traits, if ever. It may happen, but not on the same scale as those listed. Again, there's an "i.e.", so it's not exhaustive either.

  • @look-behind-you
You still haven't answered my question.
"Sexism" is shorter than "misogyny" and covers more cases. It would make the page shorter and take less time to read and understand. Thus, by your own reasoning, they should have written "sexism". Why didn't they?
This is your last chance to provide your customer with a satisfactory answer before I go to Rare and have you sanctioned for bigotry.
