What Is The Meaning Of Legend?

  • The other day a friend of mine decided to grind out the last few ranks and reached pirate legend, and i asked him what he hoped to get out of legend. His response was strait from the heart about it being a moment to bring together every adventure he had with friends, paying homage and doing glitter beard, and meeting new friends.

I know that every one has a different story or reason to become legend, so i ask the people of the forums! What was your reason? Was it just to get the cosmetics or voyages? Was it for a more personal or heartfelt reason? And what was the moment that drove you to make the push to legend?

  • It wasn’t sentimental for me, just another rank to unlock “better stuff.” I’m much more sentimental about my experiences during tall tales, events, and adventures. As a result I use a lot of the cosmetics that were unlocked during those, not to flex anything, but to remember something fondly when I use the item.

This might be partly tied to the fact that I didn’t start doing voyages until I met a certain group of people(day 1 grinders) and we played nonstop one weekend(well we slept 6 hours each night). That weekend just happened to be gold and glory, which means by the end of it I was pirate legend. So at the time I had spent way more hours doing tall tales(OG before checkpoints) than grinding reputation lol

  • @abjectarity Thats a pretty fair stance, im kinda the opposite, tall tails are just too grindy for their commendations for me to really get into them, but i can see how in that case they would be more sentimental than legend!

  • I met the requirements before I even knew what it was, a random encounter with someone on the seas lead to them telling me what it was.

To me legend is legacy and I hope mine to be that I invested in belief in others around me, with effort and consistency, without attaching any strings to it. That my effort will be a message in a bottle to others, that they find it when they could use it most.

  • @goldsmen I had a great time with tall tales, but in the beginning I only ever played with people who knew the game and I never played alone. This resulted in what felt like a personal tour guide through everything. Lots of laughs and fond memories as the stress of being confused or uncertain was gone.

Thanks to the way I was introduced to tall tales, I have later guided others through them in a similar fashion and solidified these fond memories. The way it was done for me and the way I do it for others is like having rarethief guide you but without the spoilers or having to read. So you just get to enjoy the storyline itself. Similar to how they did the Pirate’s Life tall tales later, where torches or Jack guide you the right way without flat out telling you what to do.

Anyway I’ll stop derailing your thread haha

  • Before it was made too difficult, my crew used to queue-sync to get 2 ships on a server so everyone could play together.

We did this by raising Athena and checking the table for eachother.
Reaching Pirate Legend meant making it easier to see if I successfully got on a server with a crewmate.

Haha! Fair enough! Not something i imagined, but like i said, everyone has a different story!

  • @goldsmen
I mean it would often take us upwards of an hour before it worked, so being able to shoulder more of the effort to cut the time down meant a lot.

  • For me it was all about accessing the piarate legend tavern, everything else is a sort of point of view for each one since sea of thieves has so many titles for players that achieve certain goals that it's hard to keep up.
Unfortunately the crew which i played with when i made pirate legend no longer play and i guess once most of that crew i had back then reached that status they basically found there was nothing more to do because it was early in the game's life and it didn't have lots of content.
Now it's a completely different game but some people got burnt out on the initial experience that when the sailing novelty wore off they left and don't seem to want to give it a try anymore no matter what is added. But i believe this happens to every game nowadays.
