What can make this game very unpleasing

  • Rare just needs to fix the on foot combat, if the combat wasn't so buggy being able to tell if someone is cheating wouldn't be hard at all.

  • @eva1977 yeah it's much funnier to spawn kill a skilled crew

  • @eva1977
I think a matchmaking system based on skill would be a bit to tough for Rare to figure out. There are to many variables in this game. I know pirate legends that know every island by name and location, but get absoultely destroyed when they are forced to pvp. I also know pirates that are masters of the cannon, but cant defend the ship in close quarters. Im not saying its impossible. But it doesnt sound easy

  • @eva1977 Haven't you already made a post on this topic before?

How do you rate skill though? Stats recording for each player? The easiest I could see would be by rep lvl, but again, rep doesn't mean much, what about people who will buy the whole rep with doublons and have no idea what they are doing when in the arena? My concern with matchmaking is queue time. It's already long even without crossplay opt out, can't imagine how it will be if we divide players by ranking on top of that...

  • Oh yes well im lvl 31 now and so far i have got in maybe 4 spawnkill situations where one of those super players wipes out an entire crew..
This weekend we even got a experienced crew but we got slaughtered by this one dude bragging about his aimbot etc and 3 of us noticed we could blunderbuss him but not hit him as if he was already moved but we still see it as hits.. i dunno we changed server sometimes we just get outmatched but offcourse in all excitement no one freakin recorded this dude but it sure was fishy -.-

  • @bloodybil
Ya im with you on that. I didnt even want an arena splittin us up but i know why they made it.

  • @eva1977 написал в What can make this game very unpleasing:

@bloodybil Ok so the conversation summed up is this.

    Complain: Cheaters
    Response: get good

I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt for these scenarios so other options and suggestions for feedback can be provided to solve these ongoing issues but seems pointless based on the responses.

Next time try to ask for Vids in lobby usually player that this good at game can show you how they killed you.
Once dude killed me underwater like 20 meters below there is no chance he could see me.
But ges what ? He show me video - he playing on a very bad PC with Cursed graphic and because of that his water graphic ugly as hell and he clearly can see models through waves.

And about your others text about "Other ships left"
Its their problem not crew that tearing you apart - they are just good at game. Don't let em board you next time instead of making topics that some on killed you in a PVP based mode.

  • @EVA1977
    I wholeheartedly agree and understand.
Why argue so much, you know what is the result already :-)
I barely play Arena although i find it a funny mode, but i mostly dont have a crew who wants to and for myself it's a nice to have, but not neccessary or something i want to focus on.
The Matchmaking for Arena is a problem.
All the games i made were bad balanced and i'm not talking about PC and Xbox, but ships with 1 crewmember or people like you described killing you from 50feet away bunnyhopping and 180° quickscoping.

But honestly question, how many matches out of 10 are spoiled because of this?

I have made 20 matches maybe, i remember 2 or 3 good fights, that were challenging and fun.
The rest was steamrolling, empty server or getting steamrolled by questionable skill.
We mostly winned or were in top 3, so i suggest we arent that bad, but sometimes i completely agree that there is players who maybe cheat or ate judt so much more skilled that it takes the fun away.
    But be it so.
Then make Arena a serios e-sport mode what i am too lazy and too bad for to play.

  • You should've just recorded what was going on. It's so much easier to tell what exactly happened in your perspective. That way we can determine jumping distances from certain heights, how many shots actually hit or not, were heating food to keep health, ect....

This way Rare could also have an eye at what happened too. Its important to them as well

  • @sweltering-nick Can't remember but feel free to go digging through my posts to point it out if it concerns you that much.

  • @nefrit-od Wrong, you are not paying attention.

  • @eva1977 fair play to you, i must admit, i aint read the entirety of this post due to neurological issues with me old attention span and such like, however, i have picked up on the fact that Eva here, has raised a concern in what i would describe as a very diplomatic and non judgemental way with the aspiration to evoke a dialogue around it... and there aint half a lot of people coming back a bit more challenging than what one might deem as neccessary..... good effort Eva.

  • @nikjw Thank you!

  • @eva1977 you're as welcome as the flowers in may my dear girl.... thought it very refreshing that you gave your adversaries the benefit of the doubt as to whether they were cheats or just super good players

  • i can blame the other ships for leave your crew to bite the dust, i understand the leaving frustating but always leaving is just salt and not fun

  • @eva1977 said in What can make this game very unpleasing:

I am suggesting IF they are that good then somehow there should be a way for them to play against pirates with their same skills.

This is exactly why I play arena to kill time only, the mode is basically nothing to take serious because only set crews who communicate will win. FACT. if you don't have your friends on, which I rarely get 4 on at the same time, you rarely win. best hope is for 3rd or better because the randoms in this game are as smart as watching baboons at the zoo learn how to push a ball.

The mode needs structure , a way to pair the good with the bad players and balance it out for a fair match. being stuck with the same crud crew every round is just annoying. If you have a set group of 4 you should play in rounds with other crews of 4. If you play in open crew as 1, you should play with other randoms and crews randomize every round.

  • @wilbymagicbear said in What can make this game very unpleasing:

If you don't want to get stomped, maybe don't go into the competitive mode. You could always do errands in adventure instead.

Lol what... more like 'if you don't want to get stomped you become the most competitive one yourself and stomp everyone else'... then you won't get stomped.

  • @vapor1080 As an example, I played a couple of times with a gamer from Spain, he took games so seriously, he became a pirate legend in just a month for a second time because he did not like his first pirate.
To him this was no feat just a simple grind.
If you ask me i don't have the time to play that much nor do i want to play any game that much. So to have a gamer like this go up against casual players is ridiculous.
As I said before give points for fighting pirates on your level and no points for fighting lower ones, of course you can always do this as an option but It will reduce these situations where very experienced gamers blow away not very experienced.

  • @eva1977
Mrs Eva , it all comes down to a Player's mentality… You have People that only want to win...in an honest way which ..is fine. You also have people that want to win at all cost, using cheats altering their game and so on and...That'sad because a player that can't take a defeat will never learn from his / her /them mistakes …
In real life ,this attitude will bring them down if their life get's to meet calamities from all sorts …

Now , for this case ,you just described i would say you stayed too long in that game. i've been there too in circumstances like that and there is no fun anymore to experience from that kind of SuperPirates...You know they cheat and they feel invincible , and they do know better than anyone else that "banning " is mostly a joke...

You better walk away from that kind of games before it kills your and yer crews enjoyment...And above all , when you meet these kind of "SuperPirates" then don't blame a loss on any crewmember ...These People can wreck up Friendships and Crew comaraderie in an instant...

i have a different mentality, no i'm not saying that it is the right mentality but , let me try to explain...i'm very ,very slow at Pvp , and...i don't mind that , i know my weak point and try to avoid it , instead i'm quite not bad behind the cannons ,and i try to keep the boat afloat...If Pirates with more skill ( * everybody has more skill than you Moron) i try to ignore the bad comments they often carry along , and try to die in a fun way...

a week ago , i had a session filled with Pirates with a rather " bad" mouth ...It wasn't fun to play and we all left and went to sleep , it was so bad that no one of our crew wanted to start an Adventure anymore and ...that was wrong ...We can't let other Pirate actions or words make us decide to give up the game ...We need to search for new servers and try again the next day if those new servers seems filled to the top with grievers ,Trolls or " SuperPirates of the Cheating Kind"...

To come back to my story, the next day we tried Arena again and we had one of the best evenings Arena had ever offered us … Yes ,i got killed but did it with so much humour that many opposing Pirate wrote " Rolling on the deck from laughing" or " well played " if they let me have a meleewin in them…

That Tavern or Lobby was filled with great Pirates who enjoyed that an Old man was trying his best to entertain others and when the servermerge came along with people that told me to shut up , they were told off and silenced in a way that i had never seen...Without harch words , the Trolls became silenced , and left the next game...Trolls are allergic to laughing an joking goofs and they can 't prosper in a fun enviroment so try to create a fun lobby and half of the " evil " Pirate will take a hike…

i want to edit something: Please , don't let any Pirate take your fun away , if they use " Super" tactics then let them play alone by leaving...If people call you dirty words , let theml stew in their own pot ...Don't exchange daggers with them ,because you will only lower yourself to their level of intelligence...Let their words slide off you like rainwater and try a new server ...You know you are not what they call you , but don't let them take yer fun away...You would give them what they want.

^^^ Love this pirate, ever since ive been on these forums since the day i started playing through to PL and beyond this fella always talks so much sense!!.... gawd bless you clumsy george!!

  • There will probably be a rateing system at some point, but I believe right now the scene isn't big enough.
However I keep hearing this argument from salty pirates; "wouldn't you like to play against more dedicated teams rather than stomping?". My answer to this would be No, not unless there would be a reason for such as reaching high rating gave you a reward or similar (people would complain about that not being causual friendly tho!). My ego just like winning.

  • @eva1977 sagte in What can make this game very unpleasing:

The point is i saw this guy firing when he was up in the air and shooting down on us while not missing a single shot.

Reckon even the best players would miss some shots at non-moving targets, if they tried hitting them while themselves are 'in the air'.

Is it a fact they are that good? It is not. Is it a fact the use cheats? No it is not.

Every single shot a hit, this is no human skill, I think. But you are right, it is not a fact. But Rare could examin the session data, in case you report the player.

  • This was always going to be a problem because of the lack of good game controls and unfortunately the type of players the lack of such attracts. Because of the lack of a solid grouping system and zero control over adverse situations with other players, Sea of Thieves has constantly attracted large numbers of trolls, toxic jerks, exploiters and cheaters. These type of players have run rampant in both modes, more do in recent months.

It is a problem with all online games. Problem with SoT is Rare really does nothing about it. It is why the majority of players stop playing this game after trying it. The brig system just locks the offenders in the group. Decent, good players are forced to relog and start over. Totally unacceptable.

  • @eva1977

"The point is i saw this guy firing when he was up in the air and shooting down on us while not missing a single shot."

Sounds like an aimbotter to me, with the hilarious hitreg in this game, the only way to hit someone reliably while flying through the air without missing a single shot, is with an aimbot... :S

"This ability is only either allowed or exploited when playing with keyboard and mouse BUT this is not about dividing pc players and console or gamepad vs keyboard"

Well, too late, you already started dirt-talking PC players... At that point, a bit late to re-establish a position of objectivity. Clearly you are biased. : /

From your argument, you are trying to argue that skill is an exploit... just... wat.
You understand there are extremely skilled console players too, right? You make it sound as if PC players are the only hardcore gamers around. xD

"Now part of what makes you dislike these sessions is, these gamers take you out while rubbing it in, just because they have these horrible personalities."

Yeah, that makes sense... had a few of these encounters, myself. Though, im usually more concerned about what drives them to behave that way, and why their behaviour is so severe... I mean it's one thing to utter an insensitive sentence, but these people do it with such malice and emotional enthusiasm that it blows my mind. 0_o

"But being on the receiving end of experiences like these makes other players not want to ever return."

Actually the biggest problem for me, that makes me want to play the game less, is actually the people on my own crew... Specifically in the context of open crews... So many AFKers, Server-Hoppers, deaf and mute people making the game utterly unplayable in open crews. This is a problem Rare needs to address through mechanical limitations of some kind. Anyways...

So i'm forced to play alone, or with friends who rarely have the time to play. And whilst solo play can be relaxing sometimes, it's usually the extreme opposite whenever another crew decides to try to sink you. : /

I can easily deal with toxic opponents, it's just something i've adapted to in my many years as a gamer, people with personality disorders of all types are drawn to gaming, because, well, they don't get along with people IRL. So toxicity is a common occurrence in the gaming world, a sad fact of life, unfortunately.

No company can fix the psychological issues of a large mass of people, literally impossible, but you can report the people in question to Rare with some proof, and Rare will handle them.

However, there's a hundred thousand more of those guys still roaming the seas freely even after that, with equal amounts of mental issues... So really it's like trying make an ocean of urine less urine-y by pouring a glass of water into it. And no matter how many times you try to do this, it wont ever reduce the amount of urine in the ocean. xD

I remember a quote that's relevant to this...

  • @sweltering-nick well said, sir, I bend my knees.

  • @sweltering-nick "Well, too late, you already started dirt-talking PC players... At that point, a bit late to re-establish a position of objectivity. Clearly you are biased. : /"

My point was precisely not about dividing so no i did not talk dirt because there are PC players that can be bad at their controls as well.

I also mentioned jumping in the air while shooting down with precision or using your camera to look down while jumping is mostly a PC exploited option because on a controller it is not as simple to do it.

  • @eva1977

I'm one of those people you're talking about. I sink ships, I farm kills on ships that I clearly out-match for accommodations, I bucket the dust of "Pirate Legends". When I slay out and wipe a whole crew, I emote /sit beside their ghosts and have a conversation with them on voice chat.

It's not toxic behavior. It's strategy. It's the element of "Tilt". If I get you emotional, or better yet - get you to quit, I win.

You seem like the emotional type, so tilting you would be incredibly easy.

You also need to understand, you're not going to be able to compete with mouse and keyboard gamers, particularly ones with lots of FPS experience.

Think of it like this: Imagine you are a person from the year 2019, and I teleport you back to the stone age. You have an iphone and a gun. The cave people aren't going to understand the concept that the iphone is a computer in your phone. They don't even know what a phone, or a computer, or electricity is. That's you right now. You don't know how to PvP at the same level. You're not in the right mindset.

In closing, I suggest you stay out of the arena, at least until the matchmaking is fixed and there is an elo system or ranking structure.

    Good luck.

  • @xxduluxx You could also be making this up, but if not then let it be a lesson to those who deny PC has no advantage over console.

I personally say its not about consoles or PC. As I said multiple times before its about the experience a gamer has.
You could have the best rig in the world and still struggle with simple tasks.

  • @xxduluxx
Im on xbox and i slaughter pc players nearly everytime i play. I hope to see ya on the seas and show u what a xbox player is capable of mate

  • @xxduluxx Tilting players is not a winning strategy; it's a losing 1. If you scare everyone away, there won't be anyone left to play with...

  • @nwo-azcrack I'll be queing all night in Arena tonight. Haven't lost yet today.

See you on the seas bruh.

  • @galactic-geek Seems a lot of players forget we don't all have time to play and refine our skills like others and this is KEY on how to make a good game for everyone.

  • @xxduluxx
Na sorry mate dont play arena. I have a duty to make sure the seas are dangerous in adventure mode.
