Increase the pace and incentive of PVP

  • 1.) Increase the health of ships
2.) Add smaller swivel cannons on the front and the rear of ships
3.) Add long range mortar cannon on ships
4.) Implement a grapple/hook shot that can be used to slow down ships or pull ships together
5.) Add ropes to the masts that would allow someone to swing off of a ship
    6.) Molotovs

  • @striatedmist03 I read number one and see, you have no clue of this game...ships don't have "health"...they get holes and fill with water, you have to repair and bail so it doesn't sink
I think the game you're searching for is a Skull&Bones-like game

  • @striatedmist03 Molotovs? They weren't invented util 1936 bro...lol!

  • @striatedmist03
7.) EXP/Gold bonus for taking down an enemy ship
8.) Add low/high risk areas with better loot and bigger sea monsters
9.) make sea monsters attack more
10.) NPC pirate ships that attack you
11.) Missions that have you go under water
12.) some type of long snorkel attached to the ship that let you go a certain distance around your ship underwater
13.) Allow people in the crows nest to see further than people on the deck
14.) TNT barrels that can be lit and dropped behind a ship
15.) 2 man non-combat underwater submarine (maybe not, maybe with the snorkels)
    16.) swimming flippers
17.) different types of armor that counter different weapons
18.) different melee weapons with different attack speed and damage
    19.) spotlight for night time
20.) maybe add a shield that can be wielded with a sword or without
21.) don't make ship ramming to powerful
22.) ship health bar that slowly decays if not kept at 100%, but will increase if ship is fully repaired repaired
23.) add a "top crew score board" for the crews in the lobby

1: you see my answer up there
2: we're getting harpoons with the anniversary update
3: sure, with and HUD-based line, where it hits maybe? Would break immersion and doesn't really fit in this time
4: see answer to number 2
5: would be some kind of cool...but what for, it works better with the way it is now
6: IF something like that, Rare should first introduce fire itself...as it didn't come with the devils roar update, I don't think something like this will ever come

#7 They do not want to put value on ships because then all people would want to do is battle it out. The upcoming Arena game mode as shown in the trailer provides this for those who seek it.

#8 This already exists. it's the Devil's Roar. The loot is more valuable and the missions harder due to constant geyser and volcano eruptions.

#9 Depending on the color of the Meg that spawns, their aggression levels differ.

    #10 & 11 I'm down with that.

#12 I know this is a fantasy game, but even that is too far fetched for this game. Like the molotov, the snorkel did not exist during the age of piracy.

#13 It kinda does that in ways when you are in the fog. You can see farther and make out landmarks in the crows nest as opposed to being on deck. On a clear day though, You can see just as far from above or below, as is such in real life.

#14 you can already do this with gun powder barrels. Just realize that once the fuse is lit. the barrel has about 4 seconds before KABOOM!

#15 This is Sea of Thieves, not 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

#16 Didn't exist in during the age of piracy

#17 It probably will not happen. Since day 1, the emphasis was about putting everyone on equal ground in terms of weapon damage and protection. Skill was the deciding factor on who wins. The clothing/armor is purely cosmetic for Character customization purposes.

    #18 links to 17.

#19. Lanterns kinda do this in terms of providing navigational lighting in darkness/storms/fog. Spotlights on ships did not really exist in the age of piracy

    #20 This isn't medieval times.

#21 Not sure what you mean. Ship ramming is not that powerful. It puts 1 maybe 2 holes in a hull and pushes the other ship...but that's about it. Not sure you can really nerf that any more than it already is.

#22 Your ships "health" is determined by the number of holes in her. The more holes, the more damage you took. Plug them holes, bail that water and sail/fight on me bucko!

#23 Sounds like a cool idea.

  • I'm beginning to think this OP is a troll-post

  • @exeternautical @Schwammlgott didnt really support the ideas OP did... so i dont know why you are calling him out for that ;-).

Alot of the ideas are from (a) different game(s) and on that same note alot if not most of these ideas are not what SoT is or wants to be.

He has a couple ideas that would only work with a HUD, i for one think that the minimalist hud (aka the personal health bar) is perfect.

Why do you want to turn SOT, which is already amazing, into ATLAS, which is a pretty big flop currently. (In case you weren’t aware all of the things he is suggesting are features of another game).

Where did I say something about changing the game? I don't want it to be changed, I love this game as it is...

  • There weren't any molotovs, but there was Greek fire. 😅🔥

  • 7.) Lasers
    8.) Mines
    9.) catapults
    10.) fire ships
    11.) air raids
    12.) Submarines

  • @goedecke-michel
Close to what I had in mind on your number 7.
Sharks with lasers on their heads!

  • Imma just gonna put this here because the OP clearny doesn't follow the game much and might be interested to see this:

  • @schwammlgott I’m sorry for my original post, you were making genuine suggestions and instead of giving genuine feedback, I was just plain rude, which is not okay. Again I’m sorry for my original post.

  • @striatedmist03 Answer to many of these things is Arena.

The devs will not be adding more PvP incentives in the Adventure mode. As recently as the last dev stream, they explained that they have no interest in that for Adventure mode which is why we will have Arena.

  • The only incentives you will ever need to PvP in Adventure mode is to steal loot, or to get revenge. No more; no less. It's just right.

    Ah, perfect!

  • @galactic-geek
    I agree.

It does drive me slightly mad when people suggest completely over complicating current ship PvP and its rewards/incentives . This game is one that markets itself as a back to basics, mechanically raw but visually polished game, change anything, anything - but not ship combat.

'If it ain't broke, don't fix it.'

  • cannons on the front of ships doesnt make Any sense whatso ever.. never been an Actual Age of Sails ship that had Forward Cannons lol .. SWINGING ive already suggested , suggest you play Insider for your grappling concerns, molotovs and grenades have already been suggested as well, and technically period accurate too.. and why would a ship have extra health? that doesnt make any sense.. if you blow a cannon ball threw a wooden hull of a ship, what would "Hit Points" do? theres a Hole in the Ship, which allows water to flow in.. more shots wouldnt just soak up imaginary hit points, NO.. they make more Holes for more water lol
