  • Just a quick note to congratulate, once again, the developers who are digging their own game’s grave. Well done!

Seriously, how many more seasons like this are you going to give us?
When are you going to stop treating players like idiots?
When are you going to show some imagination for your world, like you did so well in the past?

Do you honestly think that by updating the HG—creating a pale imitation of the arena—and rolling out yet another set of limited-time events, you’re going to attract or retain your players?

Just like Seasons 17, 18, and now the next one: it’s getting worse and worse...

  • @zeyrniyx It's gonna keep me retained :D

  • @kianonboard Since when have you been representing all the players?
Are you aware that the game has been experiencing a massive exodus of players for months because of terrible decisions?
If you like mediocrity and recycling, good for you

  • Since when have you been representing all the players?

    Street goes both ways.
Someone can still enjoy the game for what it offers “themselves” while others can see only the negative side.

    You don’t speak for everyone.

  • @burnbacon Well, you see, unlike the two of you, I speak only for myself and based on what I see! So if you don't like my opinion because you refuse to accept other people's opinions—whether positive or negative—then don't bother talking to me.
And if you think I’m happy to see fewer and fewer players on this game—a game I’ve loved since 2020, one in which I’ve spent over 10,000 hours of my life—you’re wrong! But I’m not burying my head in the sand; the game’s current state is terrible, and Season 19 is a huge joke on the part of the developers!
They dare to say they’re listening to us, even though we’ve been telling them for months that their limited-time event system is terrible for this game—and they’re doing the exact opposite!
The only positive thing: they listen to player suggestions.... 3 YEARS LATER! Regarding the HG.
And releasing this kind of update after calling it a “season”—yes, it’s a huge joke!

  • We are traded here

"folks farm some dubloons and buy old cosmetics when feel they want or just trough normal gamplay in quasi way it was with gold and cosmetics in year one"

    For:

"We funnel folks into 3 days spawn camp, fomo fest or recycled content. we didint think how to balance it for solo or smaller crews, casuals or how it end with folks that already has everything from Larina stock.
Do we care that most desperate will flock to alliance servers?
    No eat banana and enjoy."

Devs constantly says about high risk, stakes and stuff but never ever deliver any reward worth trouble. And then wonder why it didn't work. Bananas!

    I will be snarkier tho.

I already own all cosmetic that I wanted because most of seasonal stuff is just ugly non nautical/pirate stuff for me.

So what fun or goal and stakes can I get now? Grief and camp players to squeeze some PvP action? Try to protect them for similarly behaviour? First is bad and will hurt game second is pure fantasy.

Honestly most interesting part of season 19 is for me how much fake tears will tatoo guy tear up in another "we sorry we missed mark it is so hard to do our job right video" to farm sympathy from more naive players.

Oh, I'm sure of it... We're going to get another video message from the developers apologizing again (thinking we're actually going to believe them), and we're also going to get dozens of posts on this forum from players whining about the new system... It's 100% guaranteed!

It’s so ridiculous I could almost laugh!

Sea of Thieves has had plenty of ups and downs over the years, sure, but acting like the devs are “digging the game’s grave” every time a season doesn’t land perfectly is kinda ridiculous. The game’s still getting regular updates, new systems, events, cosmetics, the whole thing.

Also the HG comparison to Arena doesn’t really make sense. It was never meant to replace Arena. It’s just a different way for people who want PvP to find fights faster.

Not every season is gonna blow the doors off, that’s just how live games work. But saying there’s no imagination left in the world when the game’s still getting new mechanics and content feels pretty unfair.

Criticism is fine, but this just reads like doomposting more than actual feedback.

  • @zeyrniyx Agree. Sea of Thieves is nothing more than a PvP game instead of a arcade type of game

  • @zeyrniyx yes season 19 is less then a shell of the season it should have been, the reimagined kraken and orb of souls shouldn't have been removed/cancelled.

The HG update was basically the only content that was able to be completed.

However dont worry, they are aware that the past few seasons have “missed the mark” and are aware that season 19 is a let down. They are once again looking at the development cycle and reimagining that wheel once again to see if we can get into a good way again.

(Yes there is a heavily sarcastic tone to this because we have heard it all before)

However i am surprised that nothing about season 20 has been shared as of yet

  • Remember....
If you dislike or hate something so bad, WHY do you continue to stick around?
Just asking, it posts like these I question if its really hate, trolling or someone wanting attention. You can leave the game if it doesn't suit you nobody is holding you from telling gamepass to uninstall it or whatever.

If game is digging a grave, let it and move on.

Okay, so I'll tell you what's been new—truly new—in the last few months: the Eternal Guard, a new boss. Everything else—going back at least to Season 17, and I could go even further back—is just recycled content.
Season 19 is still just recycled and updated content.

There’s hardly any—if any at all—creative flair left in this game after season after season.

As the devs/leadership team have once again have to come to the conclusion they have (once again) not been working in a sustainable way for about the 8th time or so during the games 8 year life.

And so they seem to now (once again) be trying to reinvent the wheel on how software/game development works because you know Rare is the only company in the world doing this type of work (yes yes each game is different but there is a reason for certain standardisations both in coding as in working methodologies.

With how gloomy drew was in his video in which they cancelled 90% of season 19 i wouldn’t be surprised that some more hard hitting news is coming between now and June 30th (end of MS fiscal year)

  • @callmebackdraft I don’t think there was ever going to be a reimagined kraken in the first place

  • Well, since everyone who often complains about the game are always still here.
Its not all that bad after all, if your still playing :D

    Happy Sailing.

  • hey man. they are at least getting rid of acts. hang on let me go watch the video on youtube about next seasons "content" oh.... i see lol yea just hourglass changes to maybe up the engagement of that mode 15% a new arena which people asked for like 6 years ago to add some variety to arena instead they just delete the mode to then add this. and for the pve players and the anniversary update... we get old weak bilge rat adventures, old season cosmetics after our doubloons get deleted. a new season pass with more free doubloons that is part of what created the doubloon situation in the 1st place. a doubloon cap so people can reach the cap in between bilge rat weekends so they have to do monthly doubloon wipes so we cant get these cosmetics "for free"... and the best pve addition coming next season? fomo fireworks!! yes my favorite!!!!!!! but hey they added a really cool skin to celebrate the updated kraken encounter to the plunder pass....which we dont even have to spend real money on because they not only mismanaged douloon and gold... but they also gave us a load of ancient coins for free... i cant even.. but hey... grats thats kraken set might get me to stick around for 1 week next season to finish out the season pass before i call it quits. cause that set is just too cool to miss if i do come back though the rate they keep shooting themselves in the foot. seems slim

Well, since everyone who often complains about the game are always still here.
Its not all that bad after all, if your still playing :D

    Happy Sailing.

Let's be clear: playing SoT doesn't mean agreeing with every decision the devs make—decisions that, as we all know—including the devs themselves—are bad for the game.
Furthermore, you’d have to be blind not to see that something is wrong behind the scenes; everyone can feel it, and the recent videos are proof of that.
The problem here is that some—like you—don’t accept criticism from players.
Criticizing a game doesn’t mean not liking it. In fact, it’s precisely because of the love we have for this game that it’s unbearable for us to see it in agony for several months now, and that we’re genuinely worried about its future—we’re all waiting for mid-June for some news.
And yes, I’ll say it again: the decisions made are deadly for the game, and although we “blame” the devs—in reality, we know these decisions come from higher up—what’s frustrating is that with these repeated apology videos, we feel like they aren’t being sincere with us! And so yes, we’re angry!

What’s even more frustrating is the reaction of some players who refuse to understand that making a few relatively minor changes, adding one or two skins—like Emporium or Outpost—or releasing nothing but Sandbox additions that are pure recycling isn’t going to lead to player retention.

I’ll say it again here: when they announced the introduction of three acts per season—supposedly designed to boost player retention—it had the opposite effect, and we told them that even before it happened.
Furthermore, as I said in the post, the vast majority of Insiders stated that it was a very bad idea to introduce time-limited events—so many of them—whose sole purpose is to create that sense of urgency about missing out on a skin—most of which are just recolored versions, by the way. Result: they’re doing the opposite...

And this Season 19, while it’s cool for HG players, is actually just stuff that should have been implemented right when HG launched in Season 8—three years ago. And once again, turning a pale imitation of the Arena—which, let me remind you, was never supposed to return (we’ll have to say it again, but never say NEVER; here’s the proof once more)—into a limited-time event is also a mistake in the long run.

So if you're happy with this season, I'm happy for you, but you're not going to silence the valid criticism coming from dissatisfied players who are worried about the game's future. And once again, burying your head in the sand isn't going to help the game get through this!

To be honest, I doubt we’ll actually get any good news at the next Community Direct.
Sure, they’ll apologize again, and they’ll probably announce this year’s new features—but even that, in the end, makes us doubt, because if they can’t even stick to their update schedule, then what’s left?

Truth be told, I’d love for them to actually tell us what’s going on behind the scenes, but I’m convinced they can’t because of Microsoft.

The only thing I see and believe is that the developers are no longer free to act or make their own choices. At the very least, they’re much less free than before.
Also, I’ve noticed that they aren’t as enthusiastic about this game they created anymore... So yes, ultimately we wonder when this game will finally die—and if that day is closer than we might expect...
I remember Mike talking about a 10-year roadmap (three years ago, if my memory serves me right)—but I have to admit that today I seriously doubt we’ll make it to the end of that roadmap if we keep going down this path...

Well, no—if I'm to believe the latest Insider build, the acts will still be around for Season 19.

I know a lot of people excited about the HG updates. I personally haven’t been playing much but will be all over that season.

God forbid they update HG for the first time ever or provide events similar to what many have been asking a long time for.

  • This post turned straight into a nonsense insult and belittle everyone who doesn’t agree with OP

Pray tell. For feedback purposes, what way in your high experience in developing games, do you have any suggestions to help this game.

  • As this thread has only been an insult, bait and unrest from the start we will go ahead and drop anchor on it here. Cheers.
