Sea of Thieves' Plunder Pass and What It Can Learn from Halo Infinite's Battle Pass

  • Halo Infinite's Battle Pass system is player-focused and allows for a new player to choose any past season progression to focus on. This is, IMO, a novel idea that should be adopted across the board for many video games with seasonal passes. It allows for everyone to have a chance of unlocking everything, but not before putting in the work required of it.

Now you might say that SoT already kind of does this, because the devs have said that everything can still be unlocked after a season ends - but this isn't entirely true. A key example of this are seasonal titles - once a season ends, you can no longer earn them.

What are your thoughts on SoT's seasonal setup versus Halo Infinite's seasonal setup, and in what ways can you think of that might improve the player experience for both?

    Halo Infinite's Battle Pass Explained

    Questions that I have are:
Is the season you choose still restricted to the current season timeline?
What if you don't finish a previous season's progress during the current season - will it work as it does now?
    Can you repeat incomplete seasons?

  • As good as the MCC season pass works, I’m very happy with the way SoTs works as well. I’m happy that most of the cosmetics aren’t exclusive but I’m also happy that some are.

It gives players cosmetics with a story to them. With MCC’s pass (and soon to be infinite’s) it doesn’t do a good job of making me want to play it to complete the whole pass. Because it’ll always be there and nothing in there is exclusive.

  • @ninja-naranja I haven't really played much of the MCC despite owning it (I played the OG title growing up), and what little I have played was prior to their implementation of the seasonal setup, so I can't really comment on that or how its comparison to Halo Infinite.

  • @galactic-geek it pretty much works like you can choose whatever pass you want to level up at any time. They’re also all completely free and the game has no micro transactions.

  • @galactic-geek I honestly think that the Halo method is terrible. I like seasons and time locked content. If you miss it, get the next stuff. The halo stuff reminds me of not having seasons at all

  • I think that the only thing the Plunder Pass needs, is that by the time I'm 100 reknown, I should be able to have the AC to buy it.

Nearly every battle pass functions this way.

I wish SoT would do this.

Then they wouldn't make any money...

    Not having seasons at all?

    ...those were the days...

  • @galactic-geek if SoTs seasons weren't mindlessly quick it would be different, but right now they progress so quickly its just a joke.

I don't think that's a joke at all. I think that's smart. It makes it accessible to more pirates (especially new ones), and that means that more people are likely to throw in with the Plunder Pass and stay sailing upon the Sea long term.

  • Current pass is fine for me. Most not time-limited, some time limited. I think it's a good balance. And 3 months for these passes is way too long. You can knock them out in a week of dedicated playing.

  • @mferr11 Eight Words:

  • @klutchxking518 I like that. Rewards the most dedicated of players.
