@hynieth ha-ha im worried about the HD since the crab rumor is going around. I'd hate to think what is required to feed them or if you have to stop and jump overboard to keep them hydrated.
My biggest gripe with this game - it doesn't respect my time.
@iceman-0007 Yeah I'm hoping they'll have some sort of mechanic where they pincer your hands and you need to pick up the basket every now and then.
But knowing rare it'll be something like flooding the lower deck of your ship to keep em hydrated indeed. You guys might like this thread:

Ohh that would be cool. We'd need to fill our lowest deck with a bit of water to carry them around
Yeah I feel what you’re saying for sure. Not only does this game require at least 1-2 hours to accomplish anything worthwhile (other than maybe a lucky shipwreck spawn), but it can’t really be played well if there are too many distractions in the room. It requires sustained, total engagement, which for me, is simultaneously my least favorite and favorite aspect of the game.
@cooliocam very true i try to put in at least 2-4 hrs a night if i am lucky. And with a huge amount of luck and no distractions in game or outside of it maybe i will gain half a whole level of rep on one of the three.
Thanks everyone for a really interesting discussion.
Genuinely, this has been a more balanced and nuanced discussion than I was expecting... good points both ways.
I was reflecting since posting this why it feels so frustrating and why something like Elite Dangerous feels like it's got it right. But also what it does wrong.
Elite is a great game and in many ways, feels a bit like SoT's sci fi cousin. For those that don't know - you start off in a small ship called a Sidewinder that has low cargo capacity, weapons, shields and all that. As you do jobs you get credits and you can upgrade that ship or buy a new one. New ships vary in cost but it took me about a week to save up to buy a new one - a Cobra, which is really a beefed up version of the Sidewinder.
From there, there are probably a dozen other ships and all range in pricing. You can tell those that have been playing for a while or are very good at the game as they tend ot have souped up versions of the higher end ships. Indeed, getting an Anaconda is a note worthy achievement and people often post to the forums with a screenshot of their new ride.
This is great. I like that. Give me tiers to 'rank up' on. I don't need or want Pirate Legend stuff right away - but I do want to feel like I'm progressing, or that ship I've got docked is mine.
However, where this falls down is that in Elite it's possible to make ridiculous sums of money very quickly, if you know how to do it. And to be honest - since buying my Cobra I haven't really felt compelled to get a new ship or grind for that cash. So I can see where some argue that the fact it takes so long to get your ship upgrades in SoT is in itself a good thing.
Hmm.. I still feel like if Rare implemented a tier or ship cosmetics that were either free rewards for events/quests or a 'low value and low cost' option then I'd be quite happy. Hell, I can imagine a vendor similar to Merrick that lives somewhere out there in the sea - maybe on a floating barge Gift Shop style, like in the art book) that will do a rather terrible job of painting your ship for you - but for cheap.
I think this is even why in MMO's it's so nice to see a piece of armour or a weapon as a reward for a quest. Sure, I know that I'll see a bunch of other people with that same piece, but it still feels like I'm progressing, that my character is looking better.
Good food for thought.
Thanks everyone.
Progress? There is none, nothing means anything. This isn't a competitive game and you don't advance in any way besides getting cosmetics. The definition of progress is improving or developing something over a period of time. There is none of that, everything is meaningless. I got an exclusive skin that is fine for me for the rest of the game, there is no progression for me. This is why the game tanked in players.
