Tried THD again last night,,,, no takers

  • This is rediculious, have been trying for a week to kill this damn shark and we can't even get enough sailors to summon. A MAJOR flaw in how THD was designed. There is no replay incentive, and therefore if you didn't kill the Meg in the first 48 hours, your chances of getting enough people to summon is very rare.

On another note, shouldn't skeletons and sharks drop loot? Simple things like banana's, coins, shark skin, something that can be turned in or collected?

Well, I am glad I got that off my chest!

  • @markglow I've been actively looking for players to help, and haven't found anyone. Last night I hopped on a crew with my fleet that was doing athena's and there were a couple of guys waiting on the ferry begging people to help them with it, but alas they just wanted to grind out the legend chest. I thought it was a good tactic to find people though, waiting on the ferry that is.

  • @markglow I felt the same until last night. Didn’t have time to do the fight the first few nights, just did the journals. Then we had trouble finding any takers for the rest of the week. BUT last night we were chasing a galleon on our sloop and right when we caught up and were swinging around for a shot, one of them shouted, “we are friendly, do you want to do shark?” So we all teamed up shared each other’s ships, jammed out, fought the beast, and then shared gamer tags and hope to play again.
I know I would still be mad if I hadn’t gotten the kill, but when it did happen, it was great fun. I’ll admit they should give a reward or some incentive to repeat the encounter, and I think they’ve heard the feedback. However, it being so hard made the slaying of the beast that much sweeter.
Anyways, hope you find someone, feel free to invite me (I’ll bring another) if you see me online and need help!

  • Eh, I joined 8 others last night doing this event at SBC. 4 which hadn’t even done the whole quest yet. This done all through in-game tools only.

This isn’t some major design flaw and more about “blind luck” in my opinion.

I actually couldn’t find groups to do it when it first launched but find them in game now all the time.

  • I’ve killed the shark like 3 times.

I just now (last night) got the drum.

Guess what I’m saying is you don’t have to do it in order. I got the “Beat the Megladin thing for the ship just from being in a crew and killing it then talking to Merrick.

A week later I talked to the red head and finished the rest cause I wanted the drum.

If I were you I would hang out around T26 and just wait for someone to spawn and kill it. You’ll get credit if your in the area...maybe shoot it once or twice with your eye if reach just to be certain.

I would argue that the fact you need blind luck to be able to complete the quest is in fact a design flaw.

I'm not saying needing 5 people is a design flaw, just that it is so hard for some people to find a 5th

True I guess to a point but I think the whole concept of teaming up with other crews makes it a lot more enjoyable experience.

You start adding weekly events in the mix that has elements that require this and are fun to do, then you start opening up a lot of the game to people fining others to play the game with vs mindlessly just sinking for the fun of it....which that last part I think a lot of the PvPers wanted this game to be.

might be why there is that Make Friends achievement.

I wholeheartedly agree that having to team up with others to complete the event makes it more fun. I just want a reliable way for us to do so. I'm not saying an alliance system should be implemented. I think the speaking trumpet was a great step in the right direction and I honestly think if the future events have replay value people will have 0 trouble finding people to team up with.

  • The next time they have an event like this, they ought to put a huge horn near the event quest giver that a player could use to make a sound that would be heard by the entire server signifying that someone is at the quest site and waiting for more people. They could even make it signify the amount of people in the crew or gathered around the site by blowing the horn that amount of times, so three people would sound like buu, buu, buuuuuuuuuuuuuu.

  • I too have had problems finding people. I am hoping Rare has heard enough stating as such gives them incentive to implement better tools. I have no problem with having to meet up with people, it's great fun when it works, we just need a better system. I have tried all hours of the day at peak times and otherwise. I've tried camping at SBC and T26. Ive tried switching servers again no luck. I've been trying for a week now, no luck. I already have a day job, the game I play for relaxing, shouldn't be a job as well

  • After exhausting many avenues to find players, and spending hours upon hours helping people to get the journals and drums, only to have them drop or leave. I ended up sailing a locked galleon by myself to Shark Bait Cove, and then unlocked it for open matchmaking once I was there. I got lucky with the people who joined and we were then able to find a friendly sloop who helped us take on the Meg.

Tip for the drums: not everyone has to have them. As long as one or two have the drums the rest can play the song on any instrument.

  • I've been trying since THD came out, could never find all the players to complete the mission. Finally lastnight I decided to roll up to a galleon who was docked at an outpost. To my surprise they wanted to do it. Only one guy had attempted it and fail. Along the way a random joined my sloop. 6 guys amen. The galleon sent one guy to help us patch our sloop. Unfortunately the galleon sunk and the 3 guys died with it. We ran out of all supplies except cannon balls. I was able to kill the Meg right before our ship sunk. Thank god. It was tough but we were able to succeed. Just feel bad for the galleon crew who didn't complete the challenge. Dont give up man. Just stay around sharkbait cove and eventually you'll get a team together. I know who you feel I was beginning to lose hope too

  • @markglow It was designed to bring players which wouldnt be possible without needing 5 players.... I literally had 3 full galleons and me in a sloop last night, thats pretty well the whole server recorded the whole thing and had a riot

  • Took me a while to get it done. I ended up hoping on the SoT Discord and after about 10 minutes joined a crew who already had a random on board. There were a few misteps but we eventually got it summoned and slain. I was almost done with the game but the story that this encounter gave me brought back some hope.

Rare really dropped the ball on this event. No incentive to kill the shark more than once really makes it hard for those who weren't there on day 1. They could have just added a commendation to kill it a bunch of times for a different title. Hopefully they've learned their lesson.

  • They really should have given it a gold payout once it was killed. That would have kept more people interested in going back to help others kill Meg.

  • I be sat at T26 in me sloop right now watchin’ two galleons blast holes in each other and hoping whichever lives will fancy a dance with ol’ Meg.

    They was not, mates.

  • @markglow I've helped people complete the quest every night since launch right after I finish my daily grind. You just need 5 persons, make a post for a galleon doing the meg and when in the server get a chest and tell someone you'll give him a chest if he helps you summon the meg, he can even leave his ship behind and leave on your ship.

ONLY ONE PERSON HAS TO HAVE THE DRUM, use that for your advantage.

  • A few hours ago, a galleon asked us to help...we had it already, but we helped them anyway.
2 hours later another galleon asked again, we said, that we first finish some skeletons, let's meet at SBC in half an hour...we were there, but they were not there...so we left

If this weekend someone asks us again...maybe we help one more, but that's enough...look for a sloop with the green/gold hull, the green/golden lion figurehead and the green sail with the lion...

  • @markglow We had this problem for days, but after around 10 hours of game play we finally came across someone who helped. We are going to be hanging at t26 Sat and Sun night for a few hours to help anyone who is trying to get it in on the last weekend. Good luck.

  • First week of THD, Shark Bait Cove was the place to be. Pirates everywhere.

Got a chest from a bottle today, right at Merrick's feet. No pirates, no ships, nothing. Everybody has finished THD, so it seems.

  • Played the last 4 nights looking for players to do this with. 12 hours looking and moving server and nothing.

Extremely disappointed. Back to fetch missions tonight 🤬

  • every 2 days i meet one who ask for help, sure i help but why we dont get something for helping out maybe after 5 times a sail after 10 times haul

  • Hey if anyone ever wants help grinding or killing the meg hmu I'm always down to sail

  • @lord-pharqwad

I agree, I like the fact that they are getting people to work together rather than against each other. However, there is something wrong when so many attempts fail due to non-participation. This game takes soo long to play (while fun), but taking an hour out just to try and recruit other players at little to no success, really puts the casual player in a bind. Maybe they should have a THD special dedicated server or flag so people can join that knowing that players are interested in participating, and the casual player doesn't waste a ton of time doing basically nothing.

Only a sloop against the meg?, my only meg encounter I was in a sloop and a galleon of kids, they were not very good, so the meg only attacked me, he is not dumb. Each attack was five holes, when I had no planks he sank me. When I was back he was eating the kids. I came back two times alone and I had not chance.

The meg needs at least two talented crews, to share the pain.

  • That sucks. I did it day one 0 issues.

3 days later I did it with a random crew I joined when we were approached for help.

2 days ago I did it again when I ran some friends through it who needed it done, zero issues again.

And then again last night to run a friend who just got the game through it. Absolutely no trouble finding people at any random point in time I needed to.

    You got unlucky I guess

  • We did it for the first time last night and didn't have any problems finding others to help. I think the hardest part of it is figuring out the quest itself. If we didn't have someone that had already figured out the quest and had it mapped out for us, I don't know if we woulda figured it out.

The underwater journal was the hardest. Luckily I knew the island had an underwater cave and we knew the journal was there for sure.. but the clue didn't exactly point us in thay direction.

As for killing it.. you def need to be prepared, but two good crews isn't really needed. Just a lot of cannonballs and supplies. If you can run off 4 cannonball shots when he charges, he won'tj dmg the ship and he always charges gun side

  • I think a somewhat easier way to get a Meg group together is to party up with friends (5+) then everyone joins a server on a private galleon. Everyone kills themselves and if any of you meet on the ferry, those 2 invite the rest. That will give you at least 2 ships worth of guys. All you need is 5 so you can all jump on one ship and load it up. Have the non-linked guys on the ship keep more to repairs (or keep a good eye on their health while above decks so you don't die if/when you get bit).

  • Finally I got it. Open galleon, 2 guys, only one knew the basics of the game. Fortunately we found a sloop with two guys, one of them was a legendary pirate and spanish like me to help with the terrible language barriers.

No major issues against meg, the two sloop guys were a well greased machine, no more cannonballs at the end of the fight XD.

  • @markglow I know what you mean it basically comes down to luck. As I said I had a whole server doing it the 1 day and today I logged on to help people and couldnt find anybody.
The only thing I can recommend is hop in a server approach a Galleon if he doesnt want to help server hop until you find 1 that does (to avoid sitting around in the same server with same galleon) or even better find a group off xbox(using looking for group) and approach sloops until 1's willing to help 1 of thems got to be willing to lend a hand.
I would be on tonight helping people with my 3 man crew but I gotta work:(

  • @puck269 said in Tried THD again last night,,,, no takers:

    he always charges gun side

No it doesn't. It's definitely charged back and front on my ship.

  • I have had the worst luck, trying to get this done. I finally after countless hours of server hopping, waiting, fighting off pirates that just wanted to sink me (even after boarding my ship and knowing I had nothing to take and playing music with me) I got lucky with a random galleon.

But wait ... like I said "I have had the worst luck, trying to get this done." and sure enough, the trend kept going. Right before Meg died, me and my friend were killed, so we missed the the completion. Right before!

Was the first time I got to fight Meggy. The fight was a blast! I'm just disappointed that I missed out on the figurehead. Thank you to the random galleon that helped us.

  • I have tried the MegaloCRAP 5 times between not enough people, F***g ALMONDBEARD 3 times and a random black screen crash, I still have not completed. It takes 90 minutes to find a crew of ships, load the ships and travel an hour 30 has passed and 2 minutes in a F***g ALMONDBEARD!!! The reward is not worth the time. Now all I hear from people is we already beat it nah man chuckle chuckle.....#belesspirate.....

  • I've been waiting at T26 for hours, I've been waiting forever at Shark Bait Cove but no one showed up the last week. Yesterday I teamed up with 3 others on a gallion, found a Russian sloop willing to help although he didnt fully understand us, but failed to kill the Meg because the Meg disappeared all of a sudden. We didnt leave T26, so we didnt know what happened and people left disappointed. My second chance was with another gallion and a sloop but we failed again to kill the Meg because we ran out of planks.
The big problem was finding that 5th person, sometimes we were waiting for someone who showed up on the wrong server.
So, no figurehead for me and I am very disappointed. But why is the event for 2 weeks only? Why doesnt it stay in the game permanently so people with less time to play still have a chance to complete the event?
