@markglow Haha funny that you mentioned the Kraken. My first encounter with the Kraken happened to me last night, on the way to Meggy! I was so worried that we were about to lose our fully stocked ship. We didn't defeat it but we did get away and unscathed.

Yes, we were down to 3 cannonballs, 7 planks, and whatever banana's people had in their personal inventory..... NERVE RACKING!!!! What a load of fun, I hope the in game experience with the MEG is like that, I also hope it is sort of random like the Kraken, which also visited us last night......

We killed it when the only cannonballs left were the cannonballs in our pockets, it was a really close call.

UPDATE #2: SUCCESS!!!! I finally figured out the formula that worked to get THD done successfully. Anyone who is looking to complete this needs to spearhead recruitment from multiple fronts.

1. Forum's are a good place to start, people are awesome and willing to help.
2. Create a Group in XBOX live. THIS WORKS GREAT. As soon as I created the group, people started responding and I was able to invite them to our session and we were all on the same page of doing the MEG hunt.
3. Get Lucky. We found a Sloop at an outpost and as we approached, we told them we were friendly and looking for others to help summon. These two very awesome ladies were willing to assist us and even hung around for the fight....

I have to say that THD was an awesome experience once I got past the recruitment hurdles. It was fun to meet others in the game and work with them to accomplish this. Of the crew, there was only two of us that had not killed the Meg yet. The people doing again was all for good will and trying to help the 2 of us,,, that is awesome!!!!!

Looking forward to skeleton thrones now....

BUT last night we were chasing a galleon on our sloop and right when we caught up and were swinging around for a shot, one of them shouted, “we are friendly, do you want to do shark?” So we all teamed up shared each other’s ships, jammed out, fought the beast, and then shared gamer tags and hope to play again.
I know I would still be mad if I hadn’t gotten the kill, but when it did happen, it was great fun. I’ll admit they should give a reward or some incentive to repeat the encounter, and I think they’ve heard the feedback. However, it being so hard made the slaying of the beast that much sweeter.

I've had similar experiences. One day I was grinding some skellies on an OoS voyage. I guess I let my guard slip, because suddenly I realized a galleon had pulled up right behind me. I knew I was toast if they attacked. But instead they asked me if I wanted to join them to fight Meg. I said sure, I'd be happy to help them out. I'd already beaten the shark once, but had a lot of help along the way. I figured the least I could do was to return the favor for others.

I can make myself available tonight (8pm EDT) if anyone need help. I have already done it, but it would suck to miss the event just because not finding enough people. I got lucky on my first try and got 3 galleons and 1 sloop, all by people just joining while sailing in that direction. So, if I can be of help let me know.

I spent maybe 10 mins at a fort convincing a galleon crew I just wanted to help. I offered them both skull and chest if I could have free reign to make my own runs to the vault. After they agree I realize someone joined my crew and explaining the situation he tries to bring an explosive to their ship. They kill him and the alliance was broken.

I had wonderful success teaming up with others. The first time we met up with a galleon near Plunder outpost. After a few minutes of trust building we set off, but I noticed a sloop around the other side of the island clearly waiting for us to go before they offloaded. We asked if they wanted to join and they agreed. So we had two sloops and a galleon sailing in formation.

The fight was a lot of fun, and having the ship bop us around and in to eachother was very entertaining.

Last night I tried to help a friend get at least the drum, and while he was on Shark Bait a galleon came full steam at our own. They were looking for help with the megalodon. We agreed (I lost the song somewhere around T24 uuuhhhggg), eventually fought the shark, and had another great time.

I really hope Rare takes the good lessons away from this event, not just the bad! It was a ton of fun to get to work with other crews like that.

Because that's not how it works. You join a server, go to shark bait, wait ten minutes and if nobody shows up you quit and go to the next server. There are only five or six ships on a server, if they don't want to do it they don't want to do it.

Because the whole idea is to keep you playing every week, not just whenever you feel like it. The more you play, the more likely you will pay for cosmetics.

I tried the HD last night. Twas my 11th time to fight Meg now.

I see many Looking For Group (LFG) posts on Xbox wanting to kill the Meg. I would recommend those having issues to utilize the LFG feature built into the consoles. It really helps me find people to play with a lot!
