Crosshairs

  • My understanding from the developer updates is that two of the recent changes (increase of FOV, and faster weapon switching) were effected because players were using cheats or exploits to get around existing limitations, and rather than consistently fight that, they chose to even the playing field for everyone.

It seems to me like the next obvious change on this list would be to enable a permanent crosshair (or just a small dot) that can be toggled on or off. Rare have already said that enabling a crosshair through monitor features or physical solutions is "not a bannable offence". This wording feels like an unnecessary grey area.

As things stand now, using a crosshair is an unfair advantage that any player can choose to have if they care more about winning than playing fair, or playing the game as it's meant to be played. I don't see how that is ever going to change, as I doubt there will ever be a software program that can detect a small piece of tape or blu tac stuck to your screen.

I'm not saying the game would be better with a crosshair than without. If there were a way to ensure that everyone was playing without a crosshair, that would probably be better. But since that's not possible, I think it makes sense to just even the playing field for all players.

  • @europa4033 not sure what you're trying to show me here as I'm just getting an error message that says "Imgur is over capacity". Could you describe what I'm meant to be seeing or maybe post screenshots or something please?

  • I think it's widely accepted that PC players use crosshairs in third party software or hardware so to enable the option via game would at least provide some parity to console players.

Crosshairs HAVE to be an advantage in combat when no scoping etc.

  • You have sights to use as means to aim.
If you need crosshair to help you aim

As the saying kids say here “that is a skill issue”

  • @burnbacon I have a crosshair on my monitor, 90% of the time at close range I shoot before the sights come up (since the gun becomes 100% accurate before that).
If you count the time from the gun becoming 100% accurate and the sights coming up, no idea how long it is but for example say 0.1 of a second. Using a crosshair to aim instead of waiting for sights would decrease the ttk by 0.2s.
So yea can be a bit unfair imo.

  • @europa4033 thats insane no way that helps lol, waves make this useless until you get to an island

  • Watched the video of the user using the setup above. Never noticed how bad players have gotten they can’t visualize crosshairs.

There videos of players explaining the points to look at when you aim any weapon and cannons. Helpful stuff, wish I could find them all to share.

  • @burnbacon I'm not saying it's not a skill issue, but given the context of my post and my reasons for asking for it to be added, I'm not sure why it being a skill issue is really relevant?

My reason for asking for crosshairs is not because "the game would be better with crosshairs". My reason is that the game would be better if everyone was on the same footing. That either means everyone having crosshairs, or no one having them. Given that making sure no one has them isn't possible, offering them to everyone seems like the next best thing.
