I have always been of the opinion that pushing away PvE oriented players is bad business. That's literally millions of dollars of potential income up in smoke. I am curious if this is part of the decision to finally add a Safe place for PvE minded people to play. I think the 70% reduction in progression is already punishing enough.
Not having captaincy however for those who know the game is a huge deal breaker even for people who would have accepted the 70% hit. The time spent to make the same amount of money as adventure is already increase by 70% but now you need to spend upto 10x longer selling loot to various NPCs at the outpost.
Also a big one here..... Not being able to save ship cosmetics since captaincy will be disabled. If the big point of safer seas is to drum up real money sales you are going to also push those people away but not letting them save and see the cosmetics they just paid real money for? Why? So you cant progress milestones which are nothing more than a symbol of how much free time you have on your hands vs any measure of skill? Even the hourglass trinkets which are the closest thing to a status symbol can be obtained just by playing long enough.
I get Athenas is disabled on safer seas because like 90% of streaming content is athena steals. And reapers being a pvp faction also makes sense why they aren't available. But the main reason pve discords ever formed int he first place was 2 hour long athena voyages to get that ONE item at the end. The only thing in the game to give athena rep. Now with so much athena loot from various sources allowing that on safer seas wouldn't impact much. Especially since you still have the massive -70% income.
Imagine trying to farm the Dark Adventurers set with -70% income......If this is how you are going to handle PvE servers you might as well have just allowed everyone to access the private servers streamers had and not have any progression of any kind. I imagine anyone whos seen my past posts knows I have always been in favor of PvE servers... If done right. I feel like were halfway there. I think adventure mode needs a boost to all it's values in general. Even in year 1 my crew made a rule nothing under tier4 loot since it wasn't worth the time running it to the NPC
I dunno. I've been ignored on a lot of things in this game and more and more of that stuff has now come to pass so I imagine the initial release of safer seas will bomb. But it is laying the foundation to be tweaked and improved upon in the future..... Or deleted because "only 3% of players engage in this mode"
