Can't find, access or uninstall SoT

  • Hey,

    Much like this post here
    https://www.seaofthieves.com/community/forums/topic/101422/sea-of-thieves-windows-issues-need-help

I can't seem to do anything with SoT. I know what hard drive it is on, I can see it has taken up 88gb of that hard drive but even with hidden folders enabled .. I can't see the folder. If I run the game and find the location via the task manager I am told I don't have permission on my own PC and then it closes the browser.

Anyone else have this issue / know how to fix it?

  • If you're using the Windows 10 or 11 version, does Sea of Thieves not show up when you click on Start -> Search, Remove Programs, and use the Installed Apps Dashboard to uninstall?

One thing that I've seen work in the past is to make a new user account on your device and give it Administrator access, then login as that user and remove applications.

You can also check the Microsoft Store settings and make sure the Installation Drive is set to the drive Sea of Thieves is installed on, then find Sea of Thieves in the Microsoft Store app, and try to repair or uninstall from there if I recall correctly.

  • By default Microsoft stops you from viewing and messing with Windows store files. You will have to give the account permission to do that and no, I won't tell you how.

You should not need to uninstall the game this way. Just use the Control Panel or Windows Settings Programs options to uninstall the game.

  • That feels a bit virusy to me. A program that takes control of permissions?

Also Sea of Thieves does NOT show up in my Programs and Features in the control panel.

I just wanted to check that this was "normal" behavior for something from a Microsoft store.. if so I just won't be using it anymore. I assume the only way to delete the folders it installed on my extra HD and to remove SoT fully is to reformat a hard drive? if that is the case, that is horrible.

  • @shin7329 yes it is how MS store works. Try reinstalling it through the store, the store will first think you don’t have it but will quickly see you do and add it to your list of programs in your library. Then hopefully it’ll correct the register and you’ll be able to uninstall it through add/remove apps.

No its ok ill just reformat and never use a MS store item again. Behaves too much like a virus for my taste.
