Sea of Thieves/Windows Issues - Need Help!

  • Hello friends!

First of all my apologies if this is posted in the wrong section.
    (TL/DR below)

For almost 2 hours I been trying to fix this issue and for the life of me I can't figure it out at this point.

The latest update was unable to install. I had to little disc space for it. Once I made the space I wanted to continue the download but ever 50 to 100mb the download would stop and give me an error message: 0x80080207

I restarted my PC, did the msreset in Windows and the problem continued.

I then proceeded to uninstall the game to do a clean install to avoid the update download.

However after the uninstall, the near 50gb the game takes up were not freed up on my harddrive. I wanted to look up the folders to remove date manually, and after dealing with the no permissions on the folders, I got stuck. There is no Sea of Thieves folder to be found where it apparently should be (C: / Program Files/ WindowsApps / MIcrosoft.SeaofThieves[string of numbers]/ Athena / Binaries /UWP64 / SOTGame.exe). I did restart the pc after the uninstall but the space is still not freed up.

So I need help as I just don't know what to do anymore.

How the hell do I get to remove the old files of Sea of Thieves so I can install the game again?

    TL/DR
1: New update crashes during download
2: Uninstalled the game to do a fresh install.
3: Old files (near 50gb) did not delete. Not enough space to do the install now.
4: Unable to track down the folder for Sea of Thieves and running into folder permission issues.
5: Currently stranded and not sure what steps to take to fix these issues.

Any help and suggestions are most welcome!
    Thank you for your time

  • @johnscavenger Have you tried making a ticket with support.

  • If the game is still "installed", you should be able to search for "SoTGame.exe" or "Athena" (which is one of the folder names) and figure out where it is exactly.

Another thing you might want to try is a disk cleanup to get free space. This should remove any temporary update files that were used for a windows update or for the failed SoT update download that may still be lurking around.

Contacting support might also be a good idea.

  • @foxdodge Currently talking to support, thanks for your reply!

  • @d3adst1ck I searched for both suggestions and nothing came up.
I did the clean up for the disk too and nothing changed.

Currently in chat with support! So thank you for the reply

  • Just an update: After receiving help from support and them unable to find out how to clear up that space I'll be having to do a fresh install of Windows to clear up the HD space

Thank you all for reading and trying to help :)

  • I am having the same issue.. why does Microsoft hide the folders the way they do this, so anoying having a cluttered drive when ALL my others games are neatly put into a folder called GAMES... uninstalled the game and I have to go through all kinds of hassle to delete the program files and windows apps folders, WHY Microsoft???

  • Bought a new laptop and wanted to see how this runs, very frustrated at the way this is installed on my PC, I will continue to just play this on Xbox.
