Bias in the fate of Golden Sands

  • Rare, I love that you made the players make a choice about the fate of the outpost, but Im afraid we all know how its gonna end. Reapers have a lot harder task with taking the rowboat to the outpost and blowing it up there. And for supporters of Merrick they jus need to hop off, blow it up and boom, u helped Merrick ty very much. Give Reapers an actual chance of winning, we r outnumbered and have a very hard time trying to destroy the sands. This isn't a choice for players, it an illusion of one.

  • @guyrza Is pve too hard for you guys now?! Come on reapers put some effort into it and row, row, row your boat gently down the stream.

  • Wait, if you are outnumbered, then why should your side win? [mod edit]

  • @guyrza sagte in Bias in the fate of Golden Sands:

    […] we r outnumbered […]

Not sure about that. While many Pirates tend to rebuild Golden Sands, most of them will probably just finish the Adventure (Path of the Hunter & Path of the Servant) without actually fighting for one side. Maybe Reapers are more engaged to put some effort into it although more Players would like to save Golden Sands?

  • Yea before I knew what the tasks would be I figured it would be biased in the reapers favor since all they have to do is sell stolen loot to the reapers. So they would be naturally getting golden sand supplies as part of their normal plundering.

But the fact they have to row everywhere for their tasks. How simply blowing up a row boat anywhere but golden sands counts in restoring golden sands. The fact that reapers dont ever fill wood and fruit crates to sell to reapers. I also imagine selling reapers cache to merrick is worth a lot in saving golden sands. more than selling the rum or silk to reapers would net.

Kind of ironic that while the player choice in game is an illusion they also threw up a static image on the website and on day 1 put reapers at a 70% advantage which was a fabrication and sent the golden sands fanboys into panic mode and as PvErs love to do they have been tediously grinding to try and move the bar in their favor. Which has worked. But the web designer needs to update the graphic manually and theres only 3 fixed graphics for it. winning/losing/draw

  • You just need to leave your ship at the hideout (preferably with your crew to protect it) and do the adventure. Once you blow your rowboat at golden sands, mermaid back to finish and have the next crew mate start another. You should be able to complete each adventure run in about 10 minutes for 6 an hour of smuggled relics and detonated rowboats. No need to start at Larinna or visit wanderer's first.

    You are welcome fellow reapers!

Also not sure on percentages of things counting, but fully completing an adventure should be substantially more than handing in standard supply crates to either faction.

  • @magus104 my crew sells hundreds of supplies to reapers when we represent them.. fill every crate for money

  • @maximusarael020 lol SoT doesn’t have an electoral college making the majority suffer

  • @metal-ravage in my experience 90% of reapers are PvE hahaha

  • Reapers have a lot harder task with taking the rowboat to the outpost and blowing it up there.

Clearly you never row one across the map and pass other ships with no issue before :p
    It really isnt that hard.

  • @robby0316 And yet here those reapers are complaining about pve.

  • @burnbacon the thing is not that you have to get a rowboat to folden sands without running into issues.

there is an imbalance with the fact that kegboats are everywhere currently and without activating the adventure this is the only main way to get points for reaper by bringing them to golden sands and blowing them up there.

whilst on the other side of the coin, merrick's merchants only have to blow up any and all kegboat they see as long as its not at golden sands.

I do hope that the "points" given to each side are weighted due to this imbalance, f.i. :

    • 1 kegboat blown up at golden sands = 10 points reapers
    • 1 kegboat blown up outside of golden sands = 1 point merrick
  • @burnbacon ive done a lot of rowing. Though in this case people defending golden sands know you will be rowing from canon cover so they just keep a look out. Happened to me when i did my adventure. Saw a boat camped at golden sands as i was on approach they started coming toward me so i tried to row the other direction they were headed and they kept turning to match because of course the rowboat has to have an flame on the front of it. Managed to out maneuver them and get to the outpost and blow the keg before they got back. But skilled players could just camp there and keep a loot out. Granted due to all the bad coding over the years only having 4 other ships to worry about makes it a tad easier to do anything. a potential 4 less people to contend with. At the rate they are going and how unstable the servers have been for a while I look forward to the days the ship limit is lowered to 4 instead of 5

  • Reapers are not helping themselves because they are not reading their mission instructions. The number of Reaper boats I destroyed over the weekend because they had a keg row boat on the back was ridiculous.

  • Given your previous post about this topic, sounds like someone’s a little salty that their side isn’t winning anymore 😝.

In all seriousness though, I think Rare tried as best they could to balance things whilst adhering to the in-game lore. No matter what approach they took, one side would probably have had an advantage over the other.

  • Could someone confirm that blowing up a rowboat outside of Golden Sands actually gives points to Merrick and doesn't just stop the Reapers from using them? Rare's tweet doesn't make it clear.

Stopping Soulflame Rowboats from reaching Golden Sands will also hamper Reaper plans.

@Musicmee Any chance you have knowledge on this?

  • I keep blowing up row boats I come across on beaches, hope that helps golden sands and not the reapers. I haven’t done any of the new missions yet probably never will I hope blowing up these random bow boats at least helps a little

  • I'd also be interested to know the points system. I've seen people doing their first reaper run on YT and ended up detonating three or four rowboats just in the adventure/messing about before one got to golden sands. People are generating them, looting them, blowing them up and getting a new one, all in the space of a few minutes. People are farming rum bottles and every rowboat in the wild can be detonated for rebuild points. On the surface, it does seem more than slightly unbalanced!

  • @kommodoreyenser thats exactly what I was doing, there were 2 more sloops chilling, but then some random guy came and sank us all while we were rowing. Another time a ghost fleet spawned at the isle where I had to take the box. It was fired upon blew up and I had to restart again. Plus whats it gonna take for someone to canon shot to hideout and blow a random boat there. Jus way too easy for em

  • @burnbacon Im not saying its hard. Im saying its harder than simply blowing the boat the moment you see it. And this helps to restore golden sands. Whats easier, row on a rowboat or blow up a keg? I assume the second

  • @gundy-the-shark glad that you are checking my posts) It is true, I admit that I am frustrated about Reapers not winning. This story has been developing for 5 months now and in the end everything getting back to normal is kinda boring. But I agree with you on your last point.

  • @guyrza It has been a struggle to get Merrick to gain any ground. Sure, rowboats can be blown up- but casual crews help Reapers too every time they turn in crates of wood and fruit in to Reapers at the end of a sail. Not many casual crews are going to be sailing filled wood and fruit crates all the way over to Golden Sands at the end of a sail when they can just sell at whatever outpost they are at.

Just because reapers isn't winning doesn't mean anything is unbalanced. Reapers was winning at first. There are people who want to see Golden Sands restored and have been sailing and working to try to help it get restored. Merrick still hasn't been winning. It's been a struggle.

Rare seems to have made it quite balanced. It's going to be hard for either side or to get Golden Sands to be restored.

    --

There is also going to be a change in the game no matter which side wins (as I've seen some quote that as the reason for fighting for Reaper. Merrick winning doesn't mean there won't be in game change). The only difference is the KIND of change that will happen. In addition to wanting the outpost and trading route back, I want to see how the lore with Merrick and Belle develop. There is also absolutely no guarantee anything will happen to the outpost other then it just remaining as a destroyed island as lore develops elsewhere. Nothing has been said about Golden Sands becoming anything else and could just stay abandoned.

  • @metal-ravage Wow its like you are either ignoring the issue on purpose or blind, why does it matter if its PvE or not??
Asking for fairness really deserves sarcasm?

Rowing in one by one is much slower then igniting rowboats on the way, period.

You can explode rowboats from literally everywhere, did vaults on DR and saw bunch of em, do you suggest me to row them all the way?

  • @faceyourdemon I suggest you to read the instructions of the challenge once you accepted to pick a side.

After all the boasting now the reapers are looking for fairness. More than sarcastic I find that ironic.

  • Well the website has said its been a draw for 4 days yet they just posted an image on youtube community tag that reapers are winning at 55.5% lol they just cant wrap their head around how to share info like this when their "official" site lacks half the updates

  • @metal-ravage What are you talking about?

Ive checked the instructions, even made a post to further understand the rules, how is that have anything to do with boasting?

Im sorry but what youve said is radically stupid, there no irony here, two sides got objectives but one side is more likely to win due to easy condition.

Im not salty about anything, but whats the point in making two sides battle on an outcome if the Hunter's path is by far easier?

    Do you deny that?

  • While it is true that the job of rebuilding Golden sands is faster and that in 99% of the polls I've seen around about 60% of the players voted to rebuild Golden Sands, it looks like currently reapers are winning. So this is eithers a lie made up by Rare just as a marketing stunt to make those 60% players grind more or Reapers are just grinding much harder compared than "Hunters" and Rare expected this to happen, which would be way they decided to make helping Reaper "harder". Possibly Hunters are just playing the adventure and then ignoring the tasks.

I personally don't like the activities we were given to impact the war so, even tho I side with Golden Sands, I'm not actively trying to help rebuilding, I'm just igniting random Reaper's Rowboats I find around while paying.

  • @faceyourdemon If you are aware of the conditions in this conflict that means you don't understand them. And judging from your emotional answer that looks like a lot of salt to me.

Doesn't matter there is a big sea and I like reapers' tears early in the morning!

I think this has been disabled for the event. I ended up at Morrow's Peak last night at the end of my night and tried to sell a fruit crate. I was a merchant emissary so all it give me for options were to speak to the representative or claim emissary quest. I lowered my emissary and the option to sell the fruit crate was greyed out and told me to sail to Golden Sands to sell it to Merrick.

So it seems the only options for fruit crates, at least, is the Reaper Hideout, Merrick or dumping them if you don't want to sail to either place.

  • @metal-ravage Hahaha ok, not a Reaper but alright

  • @mferr11 I was confused about that one as well, and had thought that it helped Golden Sands. Apparently that is not the case and it does not when it come to points towards Merrick. It just 'hampers Reapers efforts'.

Twitter SeaOfThieves: While destroying Soulflame Rowboats away from Golden Sands may hamper Reaper efforts, it doesn't contribute to the efforts to rebuild Golden Sands. Special Rum and Sailcloth, standard Fruit and Wood Crates or intercepted Relic Caches handed in at Golden Sands all help.

  • @d3adst1ck For the sake of science, I went to test and see if crates could still be sold at other islands.

I purchased a wood and fruit crate on Plunder Outpost, and was able to sell both at Sanctuary Outpost. They can still be sold on other islands, and it has not been turned off. I was not sailing under an emissary flag at the time.

Image of wood crate being sold
Image of sloop with no emissary flag

  • @wyvernkraehe Hmm, did you try a fruit crate? Maybe it's just Morrow's Peak that is broken?

I did a Lost Shipment mission from Finest Trading Post to Ancient Spire. The captain quarters had a fruit crate in it. I continued sailing to Morrow's Peak and tried to sell it (it was full) and I was not allowed to, with the text directing me to sail it to Merrick instead. I wasn't able to sell it as an emissary or as a non-emissary, but only the non-emissary had the Merrick text (emissary only showed the 'take emissary quest' text as I was grade 5).

  • @d3adst1ck said in Bias in the fate of Golden Sands:

    Possibly?

I did try a fruit crate as well.
Fruit Crate with sell option at Sea of Thieves Merchant post.

  • @d3adst1ck Someone mentioned that there may be a difference between purchased fruit and wood crates vs those found... so now I need to go test selling bought crate vs found crates at the different outposts.

Update: It appears there is a difference if the crate is bought vs found. Tested at Galleons Grave Outpost with a crate purchased and another found on a sunken ship. The purchased fruit crate could be sold, while the one found could not be sold.

    Found fruit crate:
Found fruit crate with text to turn in to Merrick.
    Purchased fruit crate:
Purchased fruit crate with option to sell to Merchant Trader
