Reaper Voyage idea: Player Bounties

  • Since most Emissaries have some voyages to go with them, I thought reapers should have one too, but in the form of bounties. You would buy the voyage as normal and vote for it as normal. The game will select a random crew on the server to be the bounty, and they will be notified a bounty is placed on them. The Reaper crew will be given a reaper wayfinder to locate the crew and will have a certain amount of time to locate them, and sink them. If they are successful, the reaper crew will get some bonus loot and gold on top of the loot the crew has on their ship.

    Notes:
-Emissaries would take priority since it's the main thing reapers go after. But if there is no emissaries, then a random crew will be picked at random.
-If the bountiee crew gets sunk by PVE, or disconnects, it will be count as poached, and the reaper crew will receive less gold and loot.
-The player crew will be given a tool to show how close they are to the bountee (and the reapers ship location will be hidden on the map).
-If the bountee crew doesn't get sunk in time (aka survive in time) or if they defeat the reaper crew, then the bountee crew will receive some gold and some loot as a reward.
-Multiple bounties can happen at the same time.

This idea is a concept, and the idea is welcome to be changed and adapted.

  • Sounds good, except for the part where non-emissaries could become a target.

Emissaries are intended to be Reaper targets already by risking being hunted down for higher payouts so having Reaper voyages where Emissaries are made targets makes sense.

However, most people who run their ship without emissary flags tend to want to mind their own business and just adventure the seas with their buddies.

It's already a problem that some crews go out of their way to grief players and target sloops as a galleon with no gain whatsoever than annoy other people off. If they added the option on top of it to be rewarded for their griefing with no real consequence, that would just cause people to quit entirely.

  • I understand that non emissaries could be a problem. But I just put it as an idea in case there is nobody running an emissary. My idea would be Emissaries would get get picked first and if there is none, then either non emissary's get picked, or something else happens, hopefully still allowing some sort of player bounty to happen.

  • Not my cup of tea but a nice idea. The reapers faction already heavily incentivized a PvP playstyle. The ability to see other emissaries is already a decent bonus to playing them and I don’t think they need much more than that.

However I feel bounties could work in the opposite way. Bounties would be placed on those who, during there time on that sever, have sunk or killed other pirates. The more they destroy, the bigger the bounty on them. There’s barely any risk vs reward for being a reaper besides just being marked on the map. Of course I feel this should apply to any crew, not just reapers.

  • @grilledcheese10 This would be a great idea! I was thinking some form of that too as a version of it. Maybe have both? One as a "world event" for everyone and one as a specific voyage for reapers.

  • This is a really good idea. I support it!

  • Reapers shouldn't have Reaper voyages. They already have the perk of "anything you do fits us". Any voyage you complete, any world event, any encounter, even sinking players, all fits the Reaper. Why would you waste gold, time, and effort, doing some special voyage that likely doesn't even match up to literally ANYTHING ELSE the Reaper already accepts are sold treasure, without instantly making all others worthless?

Also, giving people an unconditional, random "I'M COMING FOR YOU" doom notification that literally BROADCASTS YOUR LOCATION TO THEM without even being near you, eliminates all possibility for a ship to evade/hide from threats, as well as the challenge for PvPers to find, chase and predict their prey. In fact, that's literally already what the Reaper 5 flag perk does! Except only if you're an emissary too.

If you really want to send PvPers via some form of mission or voyage on a goose chase to another player, don't literally give away their location (and yes, a mere wayfinder DOES provide enough info to know their location). Let it be more obscure or cryptic, that they have to figure out their tracks first before just giving away their location. For instance, you know the 'line' a ship leaves behind on the map as it travels? Put, for example, debris over there visible to the reaper, and hide it with clues (or NPC's "encouraged" to spoil some info about a recently passing-by ship) about the ship you're chasing.

  • @kapitein-kater I get what you are saying. Also something to keep in mind though, reapers level 5 already see every ship on the map regardless. I was just providing a way for reapers to search and still have an opportunity for other ships to survive (hence is why I put the time limit).

No, Reapers can only see other ships on the map with an Emissary on. Ships without Emissary are invisible to Reaper 5 ships.

Also, the big cue why/how ships can try to avoid / survive Reapers, is by being able to literally see a Reaper emissary coming from miles off and plan/act accordingly

  • It's been suggested before that in the inn there should be a bounty for a player on the server that has sunk multiple ships and have a turn in for them once sank. It would be a cool honor to be that person posted but also pretty cool to be the crew turning in their bounty. There was also a cool suggestion to put the region (shores, wilds, ancients) they were last known at updating every like 30 minutes or so.

  • What I was wanting in terms of reaper bounty voyages, is have a way for reapers to do a bounty and not wait around for a bounty pop up if they don't want to. Of course the bounty for everyone with more kills and more loot would be cool too. Maybe it can be a players vs Reapers thing?

  • I wouldn't mind this but for me personally I feel only Emisarries should be selected.

  • @combatxkitty What should happen if no Emissaries are on the server at the time of the bounty?

  • This is not needed, as we don'tneed additional incentive to PvP. Also, we already have the ability to do bounties regardlessof whether or not you'rea Reaper.

    Tools; not rules!

  • @galactic-geek Yeeeeeaaahh.... I was gonna mention that...

To a reaper, every emissary flag IS a bounty.

That is an issue. I guess you would not be able to start it up. I just dont think its fair to target people who arnt taking that extra risk for extra reward.

  • @kapitein-kater I was thinking of something along those lines. The only reason I thought about a wayfinder is that I thought about ways it could be implemented into the game. I'm not sure how it would work with the Emissaries shown on the map.

  • Set amount of time to find, a moving target, who knows they have a bounty.
    Yeeeaah....think on that.

Player disconnects, reaper still gets rewarded. So everyone starts disconnecting and reapers don’t get punished.

Bounties are “fine” idea but I doubt there is any justified way to execute it without balance

...and so are those without - the Emmisaries are just worth significantly more.
