Northern Seas/Artic Area

  • I think for a new area for the game should be a Northern/Artic area with different mechanics and features added to the game. (Basically take the Devils Roar and make it cold.) There would be glaciers you have to maneuver around and thick sheets of ice that your ship can't get passed. Ice skeletons would be added that are covered in snow and ice that are tougher to kill unless you somehow are able to melt the ice with some sort of fire. (maybe the lantern but I think that would be too easy.) I think fruit should be harder to come by in this region since all the fruit would be covered in ice and frost. Chests, skulls and merchant alliance items would have a new snowy variant that is worth more. New cannonballs could be added such as fire cannonballs to melt ice or cursed ice cannonballs that would freeze or slow players. If the ice cannonballs hit a ship, the ship would start to cover in ice to slow it down and to get rid of the ice you would have to melt it . Ice fishing could be added with a new variant of fish to catch and could be the main source of food since most fruit you would find would be frozen. Sunken shipwrecks might be surrounded in sheets of ice so you can't get your ship close, you would have to get off your ship and run across the ice to get to it. Since the water would be freezing I feel like the water should either cause damage or instead just slow all movements in the water. Blizzards and ice storms could be added as well. Blizzards making it harder to see and slowing movements while ice storms may hurt you and your ship. This could also be a way to introduce a new Tall Tale and the reward for completing all the chapters could be a battering ram added to the front your ship so you can now break through the ice layers on top of the water. Let me know if you guys have anything that you would add or change to this idea.

Right, so, this is a nice idea (admittedly you are by no means the first to come up with it):

    My adjustments would be :
/Taking the Devil's Roar and copy-pasting it would not make for a fun area conceptually.

/Battering rams being 'added' for finishing the Tall Tale would go against that age old Rare mantra, 'Everyone gets the same stuff : but veteran players have different expertise and better experience'.

/Fish would take longer to cook (they'd be frozen)

/Ice skeltons would be better as immune to swords as Night Skellies are vulnerable to light and lanterns.

/Fire cannonballs would set the ship on fire - one tight-lipped dev totally didn't mention that soem sort of fire was coming to do with PvP.

As I said, sorry chum: been there, done that, got the postcard.

  • @generalbuckfoi

First, thanks for the feedback. Lets me re-think about it and how we could change it to make it better.

Second, I don't mean to take credit for this, I doubt I'm the first person to come with it.

And I didn't literally mean take the Devil's Roar and copy and paste, I just meant how they added the region to the game but it would be the northern part map with new islands, content and what not.

I also get what you mean for the battering ram, that it can't be exclusive to people getting it if it was a Tall Tale reward. But I meant that it would only allow you to break thin ice and make it easier to navigate. It wouldn't give any sort of PvP advantage by ramming into other players ships. Or maybe this could just be added to all ships from the beginning to allow them to sail through thin sheets but the thicker ice would just stop every ship type dead in its tracks. I guess you don't have to add a battering ram to allow it to do that but personally I think it would make more sense. Or it could be another aesthetical looking item and for those who don't like the look of the battering ram could toggle it on and off in the settings.

By the fish being frozen did you mean dead frozen or they just look frozen? (I'm assuming you meant they just look frozen) I do like the idea of them taking longer to cook since they would be colder.

Ice skeletons being immune to swords could be cool, so you have to use guns or cannons. You could make it so that if you do use swords you can chip some of the ice off every so many hits progressively making them weaker to the guns but the swords still don't do damage. You could also have them act like a combination between the plant and gold skeletons, maybe they'll re-freeze in the water after chipping of the ice with a sword and have guns still be your only way to damage them. Or they just freeze and get stronger in water in general if you don't like the sword idea.

Is there anything else you want added to this region besides the things I listed? Those were the only things I could think of at the time but if you've got other ideas I'd be more then happy to discuss them.

  • @whitehawk0211 I absolutely love the idea of a frozen area. To take it farther on your idea of having to melt the skeletons I would love to see them implement a boss fight where the lantern or some quest item torch would have to be used to thought it and attack it. We desperately need a boss encounter that isn't just a reskin of Briggsy/Graymarrow/Gold Hoarder.

  • @justin-case-bro

A torch as a quest item would be a perfect way to introduce a mechanic to melt them. I mean its kind of like the lantern, but I think that a torch would be way better because it would be an actual flame that would be able to melt them instead of a little candle flame inside the lantern.

And yeah a boss fight is desperately needed, so combining the torch idea with an ice skeleton boss fight would be amazing.
