Combat overhaul

  • Combat has never been good on this game, clunky and just awful are 2 words I can best describe it as. With the arena now a thing the combat needs a serious overhaul to make it fun and engaging, I don't want to subject myself to something so horribly bad to unlock the glorious cosmetics, This is a PvP game afterall, we should be treated to a somewhat competent system. A combat overall would also make the gap between pc and console more fair and balanced.

    Post ideas for overhauls here.

    My Ideas:

    Weapon types, There can only be one ranged weapon and one melee weapon equitable in a single loadout, no more double gun. There will be new sword types with different strengths and weaknesses such as rapiers being faster and better poke weapons while cutlasses can be an all rounder and a new sword type could be slower and more powerful and more adept at powerful slashing rather than delicate stab attacks.

    Swordfighting should be more engaging with emphasis on aim, timing and skill. Having different attack styles instead of the lunge and random slashing there is now, there should be ability to slash, stab and swipe from different angles giving the opponent the difficulty of defending attacks from various angles while looking for openings to strike themselves, defending pirates can not only block sword swings from various angles but can also dance around, duck and dodge to look for openings. Swords up close should also be able to disarm gun wearers and force the enemy to draw their blade, no pirate worth his/her salt would go toe to toe with another pirate in gun vs sword it would be sword vs sword from the deck to the gangplank.

    Once both swords are drawn the game will enter the swordplay minigame where outwitting your opponent with deft movement and a mixture of different attacks will claim you victory, no more random slashing.

    Guns should be nerfed and/or redesigned in close range so sword fighting comes more into play, right now there is too much double gun and its ridiculous. Guns should be limited to a choice of 1 per loadout to occupy the new ranged slot as mentioned above, the gun choices will remain the same. Swords in melee range can have a chance to disarm the gun and force swordplay.

    On respawn you spawn with your last used weapon out, its impossible to fight camping when you have the delay of bringing your weapon out, starting with the last used weapon on death out upon spawn will even the tables.

    Thats all for now will add further ideas later and keep on promoting this thread for as long as necessary.

  • While I do think certain changes in regards to combat need to be made, I don't think they should go that far...
