Kraken Spawns on Sloops

  • Rare, You guys messed up the spawns for sloops to be krakened hard. I've been krakened 5 times in 3 days within 4 hours playing each day while on a sloop. This is not a joke, and yes i've kept track. Especially after the 3rd time. I wanted to see how many i'd get in three days. These spawns clearly have something wrong with the coding. It happens when I don't have loot, when i do have loot, and when i have ALOT of loot. Please re-look at your spawns for kraken on sloops because i never got kraken spawns on sloop before this recent update. ALso, sidenote i don't think ghostships should spawn on solo sloops. It's pretty much a death sentence unless there's two people on the sloop.

  • Kraken spawns on any ship that is not docked at an island when a fort or fleet is not active and the reason you would have it spawn on you more than normal would be in part to being 1-2 ships on the server that is active at the time.

If you do not want to fight it when it spawns on you just do a 180 and exit the black water since that is the closest edge for escape.

As for the skalleons the ones that spawn need to have the sloop versions in rotation to better match to sloop players and brigs for brig players, having all three rotate on all three player ships to mix it up.

  • @brainyspider416 Lol make that six times. C'mon rare.

  • @brainyspider416
Free loot. What's wrong with that?

  • Right! I haven't been getting Kraken encounters but the dead ships keep popping up when I solo on Sloops and usually when I have a lot of loot.

  • Got hit with a kraken earlier today while solo slooping, fresh out of port - made me glad I emptied the outpost first. It took some time, especially once the storm hit and I had to bucket like crazy, but she didn't stand a chance!

    She's unpredictable, that 1...

Also, I distinctly recall seeing the active skull fort cloud throughout the fight, so yeah, there's that.

  • Krakens on sloop now are to easy even to be afraid or worried. So easy to get that legendary kraken hunter achievement.
About ghostships they are nice, don't need to be easier or it won't be fun. To kill them just learn the basics. Get close, use special cannonballs so they sink faster and dont miss shots. Even on solo sloop you can kill it in 1-2 min.
I even would love if they bring back the old kraken who was a challenge to kill. Now when i see black water i dont even get planks at start anymore, just shout those heds down.

  • krakens are easy as poo for solo sloops. might as well be a care package seriously

  • Just kill him. Problem solved.

  • @brainyspider416

Krakens can spawn on sloops since the Shrouded Spoils was introduced.

Skeleton ships are perfectly fine to take on alone.

These threats just need some practice to feel comfortable with defeating and your mistakes or lack of supplies might be your demise, but that is the best part of playing solo. It is all up to you and it can all be extremely rewarding once you've gotten the hang of it.

From a fellow solo captain, enjoy what the sea throws at you and master these seas. If you need help there guides on these forums focused specifically on solo play.

I get the feeling that people who have trouble with these things only try to take a straightforward approach towards a challenge and when that doesn't work, they label it as "too hard" or as something that needs to be changed. Well the best video games don't just have straightforward challenges - it may require some legwork by the player to study the challenge and think on the best way to do the job, and there's nothing wrong with this! In fact, I find that it makes challenges more enjoyable.

So I've actually spent a lot of time actively seeking out the Kraken over the past couple of days on a sloop. They are pretty easy to take on. I've been so unlucky in that I can't seem to encounter it. I've been BEGGING to encounter it!

Just some advice when it comes to the Kraken. It is quite easy to fight on a solo sloop these days. Even easier than before since they nerfed it.

    1. When you see the Kraken spawn on you, go ahead and equip an Eye of Reach as weapon 1 and a flintlock as weapon 2. A cutlass won't do a lot of good in this fight. If you can't reach a tentacle with your cannon, the double gun loadout will come in handy. (This is actually the only time I've ever cared to double gun)

    2. Start by shooting tentacles closest to the ship.

    3. KNOW YOUR ENEMY - The Kraken has telltale warnings when its about to suck you up off your ship. It screeches and roars very loudly while its in the process of trying to whip you up off the deck of your ship. (Also note that this is usually the first thing the Kraken tries to do in the fight) When you hear these roars and screeches, go all the way below deck and wait until the beast is silent again.

    4. When it decides to grab your ship, look for a tentacle that appears very close to the ship, this is actually the end of the tentacle that currently has hold of your sloop. You take this tentacle down and she'll let you go.

As for skeleton ships, these guys are pretty easy to take on solo as well. A good arsenal of cursed cannonballs will serve you well. The fastest I ever sunk a skeleton ship as a solo sloop was well under 60 seconds. First move was a grog ball to stunlock, fired plenty of cannonballs, followed up with another grog ball, more cannon balls, and then they were sunk. I took no damage and they never got an opportunity to repair. Do not go solo without a nice stock of cursed cannonballs, the adventure of a solo sloop is meant to be pretty unforgiving so you should prepare accordingly

As with ANY video game, things don't always need to be changed by the developer just because you're having trouble with it. Study your challenges closely, learn them, and use that wonderful human brain that you have, because the A.I. doesn't have that!

  • @chronodusk retweet. These sorts of threads make me angry -- not because I'm upset with the OP, but because I'm sailing around desperately trying to get those last few krakens for my legendary commendation, but the gosh darn thing just won't show! We need to go tell Karen to stop bothering the OP and come find us! I try watching skull forts and sailing to open water as soon as they go down, but it's still slow going :/

And @Galactic-Geek interesting, do you think they changed the server event behavior? Maybe it was a bug -- can anyone else confirm that they found a kraken while a fort was up?

  • I feel like kraken is attacking sloops more often than other ships, since update

  • I WISH I had that many krakens slooping.

......so they happen at random regardless of the amount of loot you have? Why is that a problem? They made the change because so many sloopers were complaining about never getting to experience the kraken.

  • @chronodusk I'd like to clarify that the best way to deal with an inhaling tentacle is NOT to go below deck, where they can often still grab you, but rather to simply shoot it. One or 2 shots (with any weapon) is enough on a solo sloop to make it retreat beneath the waves.

  • @galactic-geek I've never had problems hiding below deck personally, but I did not know about being able to interrupt the tentacle trying to suck you up. Good to know!

  • @grindtony45 It's all RNG mate.

Karen is probably one of the easiest encounters while on a sloop, Solo even. I saw the guide someone posted above... that is pretty much the Kraken down to a t on ANY ship tbh. The difficulity of Karen obviously scales with different ship types but honestly once you get the mechanics down it becomes easier and easier every time!

  • The kraken should only attack the galleon and brig and leave the sloop.

  • @brainyspider416 something does seem to have changed in the past week or 2 and everyone has noticed it from new to PL's. It feels like the PVE aspect has been dialed up to 10.

With or without loot, fresh ship at outpost just setting off with a Merchant run its almost guaranteed to drop a skele ship with endles cursed balls, a meg or a Kraken.

Not to mention the AI is insane accurate from sniper skeletons, ships, island skele canons and even the bloody volcanoes hit u with aimbot like accuracy.

Im all down for a challenge but the game has no scaling or variations on chance. Getting dropped by a skele Galleon in a solo sloop on a merchant mission seconds after leaving the dock gets a little boring.

There are 3 skele ship variations in the skele fleet so why is the skele spawn in the open seas 100% a Galleon?

  • @eridorr Yeah kraken is easy thing to do, but not when there are enemy players, 99% of time you sink.

And that happen very often when you are doing forts, ships are sailing in circles like vultures

She has been hiding for a while for us as well. Seems she has the knack of popping up when you really do not want to fight her and not when you are hunting her. It seems to be vary so much at times from server to server. I see posts thatvservers are in constant chaos with NPC attacks. I can go through sessions and see none.

Have not seen the Karen in a while now that we need one more kill. Have not seen skeleton ships popping up to the surface in a long while either. Gotta keep hunting?

  • @x-crowheart-x Not sure why, but @QueenPucci and I sailed around in a sloop for the past three weeks or so, and we had a great deal of success getting Karen to show up. And even more success killing her. I honestly am wondering if the likely hood of encountering her is higher in a sloop than in a brig or galleon. We actually got so good at it that we could almost predict when she would show up.

Also, I have never had Karen show up with any skelly cloud in the sky. She has always shown up between cloud events. I want to say we killed between 10-15 krackens over the past 3 weeks.

  • @nofears-fun

Wolf and I seem to have seen her less on a sloop recently. It all is so random. Hopeful when we get that galleon going together we all will have the opportunity to take her down several times along with many other things.

  • That krakens got harder to kill I don’t think It’s right.

  • @xxassassinxx-ac Absolutely not. I play mostly solo and would be bummed if they took the kraken away. There are plenty of tips for how to fight the Kraken solo online, or open your ship for someone to jump in to help if you need it. I have taken out many a kraken solo, there's no need to remove it entirely.

  • @badrobott it’s got harder to kill according to one of my Xbox friends.

  • @xxassassinxx-ac It has for sure. But that does not make it unmanageable, the difficulty is where the fun lies. It’s by no means impossible. When you know the challenges being prepared is key. It allows you to go from, “Oh no here it comes!” to, “bring it on, beast!” I have killed many solo, and at least two since the latest update.

  • @badrobott we hold it off and then escape.
