I think I just realized that as you progress through the trading company tools (i.e. the Merchant Alliance compass and telescope) that each time you upgrade, it replaces the last version you had so you only ever have one of them in your inventory :(
I'm not sure it has been discussed before, but I would love to keep all of those versions available to me... ! I love some of the lower ones even more, and it's a shame to waste all of that beautiful art!
