Ladder Issue

  • So, while me and my crew sail along the sea, no matter what, we always encounter the same type of pirates. One of the enemy pirate jump to the sea and swim all the way to climb our boat and release the anchor. This is annoying espacially when you are on a sloop. There should be a ladder droping just like the anchor. So if you want to board our ship you have to throw yourself with the cannon or board us like real men. There should be ropes to swing or jump to the ship aswell. Hey if you forget to release the ladder while on the island? Thats your mistake and fun to try to jump back. Or is it just us havibg this problem?

  • You are gonna get a lot of hate from people who fight this way. Theyve found a way that works and dont want it taken away. But it does happen with every attack

  • Boarding is the most efficient way to kill people and sink ships in the game. Otherwise everyone just does laps firing endlessly and waiting for the other to run out of planks.

Now if you want me to board like a man I will, we prefer to ram anyways with all our loot from previous ships sunk proudly displayed at the very front of our boat (13 on that run without sinking and 3 of them we're legendary ships). If I had my way we would also have grappling hooks to throw and we would also climb your anchor rope to board as well.

Defending ladders is the easiest thing to do in the game so long as you can aim straight down and pull a trigger that is.

  • Without Ladder boarding chases would go on forever.

Just keep your ears open and you'll learn what it sounds like. It's really easy to hear and stop a boarder from boarding and since having your ship boarded is mostly on yourself I cant really pitty you. either you were chasing someone in a streight line or you're close to another ship and the ramming/ boarding would work as well.

  • Rule n1: Never sail right behind the boat you're chasing.
Rule n2: Always check ladders. Blunder+sword is gud.
Rule n3: Always check ladders, always.

  • @dotcomrobots Yup. Sound advice.

I'd include always have eyes on the ship ahead. Someone on your bowsprit watching for when / if anyone jumps into the water. Get them to use the eye of reach if necessary.

Also this... but the viewing distance in this game is ridiculously small !!!! How are we supposed to take advantage of the telescope??

    Rare please.. fix this.

  • @nicholai-dawn The anchor drop is effective, that's why it is used.
It's far more of a pain on a galleon, trust me.

The ladders, although a popular source of boarding the ship, are not the only way onboard.
The bowsprit is also a very common means and of course shooting themselves out of a cannon onto your boat is very effective after great practice.

  • @dotcomrobots Yeah it has all been "fixed" for the worst since launch.

That depends on your definition of "problem".
If the only way to board (I'll let "forgetting about the ladder" off this list) is either ramming or shooting off a cannon there is technically no way you can ever board my sloop.

    Here's why:
If you get onto ramming course with your Galleon, I'll just drop my anchor and let you pass by.
You can't get the angle with the cannon to get onto my ship, jumping into the water is denied because... no ladders.
You can't turn the Galleon fast enough and I need 8 seconds to raise my anchor back up.
The only reason this move is risky as of today is because you could board via ladders.

There are a lot of viable suggestions how to counter ladder boarding (the TB one-shot is the most effective one).
I think you could solve your problem by adjusting your tactics a bit and you're good to go.

  • So you're complaining that people exploit the fact that you aren't paying attention?

If there's a chance someone could be boarding you watch your ladders. Then your anchor doesn't get dropped. Also when you do that they are down a man so you have an advantage.

I'd agree with an additional way to stop it but only after they fix cannons firing you in random directions. When 4/5 shots put me in the total opposite direction from where I'm aiming it's simply not reliable enough to use.

  • Cover your anchor with cages/seafarer's chests.

  • Indeed, players keeps shooting me with cannons and guns. They should play like "real men" and sink me with the cutlass only. Btw, boarding is not allowed either, so they should find a different way to cut me down as well.
