Cross Platform play has me ready to quit.

  • I am tired of being at a disatvantage due to being an Xbox player. This game has no kill cam and no way to easily report players that you suspect of cheating. I am sick of constantly dealing with PC griefing and honestly never knowing if they cheated, used hacks, or are simply making me look like a fool because they have the advantage of a mouse. I love the game, but this needs to be made optional. I spent my hard earned money on an Xbox for a reason, if I wanted to play with a mouse and a keyboard I would have purchased a PC. I have a feeling I may be shelving this game until this crossplay issue is addressed.

Edit: Since I was not explicitly clear, I am by no means recommending the removal of crossplay from the game. I am suggesting the option to op out of cross play. Many comments seem to be assuming there must be one extreme or the other. Both parties win with the option to choose.

  • Kill cams would be ideal. I think the game will move to foster less competitive features and get more Xbox controller/kbm support though.

  • Yeah, I’m with you on this and I’m a pc player. I play both Xbox and PC and even a PC player with little keyboard and mouse experience can still outshine an Xbox player. It’s almost laughable that this crossplay has been allowed. I can honestly say that I am comfortable in playing solo on the servers because I know that should I come across a 4 man Xbox crew I can wipe them out with ease. It’s easy for a pc player and very unfair for an Xbox player so I’m with this post 100%, a kill cam between spawning on the ferry would be a good addition to catch out cheaters on PC.

  • @goodsamaritan11
Unless they are hacking they have no advantage over you.

  • @nwo-azcrack I can tell you now as a pc player, yes we 100% do haha

  • @i-want-a-nandos
I havnt seen it at all. Can i get some examples?

  • @nwo-azcrack increased aiming capability with mouse with precise aiming with a full hand to steady aim. Macro keys allowing swift and efficient changes between items. I could be jumping all over the place and aim and hit you in the head with a pistol consistently. You cannot do that on console, sensitivity is way too low and a thumb has no accuracy comparison to a full hand when it comes to aiming

  • I see. Well i guess ppl just suck, cause i havnt seen anyone who had an advantage over me. The times i have died have been my mistakes.

  • @i-want-a-nandos
You're right. At least they're aware of the advantage and sail alone.
Still Sloops are easy to sink.
A way I can think of to defeat a crew of 4 is to jump ship (ghost sail) and board them.
Possibly with a powder keg at first; and then to prevent the crew from repairing, have your crew mate ready to board and camp their lower deck.
2 PC players on a Sloop are devastating. Precisely for the reasons you listed.
    I hope they get the megaphone item working soon, so you can communicate to ships chasing you, for a Parley;
Although those will probably end sour a lot of the time.

  • @i-want-a-nandos thank you so much for your reasonable response! I’m glad that you can see where I am coming from. I have no issues with PC players in general, it’s just very frustrating to spend hours trying to level up when you know you might loose it all to a solo sloop PC god. The grind is real. Cross play is a great concept for bringing friends together, but I feel like In the very least it should queue you on Xbox servers if your party is only Xbox, mixed servers if you are mixed, and give the option to match make to a ship with crossplay enable or disabled.

  • @goodsamaritan11 hooray! someone who believes in crossplay unbalancing! haven't seen this one before, nope, new topic.

Bumber jumper, claw, using your palm on your joystick, like me... that fixes the aiming and jumping issues
There is no headshot multiplier, its on giant hitbox. Being able to turn and use macros is one thing, but thinking PC has some witchcraft powers or they hack is redundant.
Some people will hack, its common on any platform.
Take it from a guy that grew up playing console, and barely plays pc, there is little to no difference in my personal performance, according to me or my friends, they literally cant tell the difference in my blood thirsty killing sprees.
The sword lunge tech is harder on console? Use the audio cues.
Shooting twice? RT Y RT, bam fixed your problem. Next!
Theres been tons of these i quit because of this, or crossplay is unbalanced. If there were headshot multipliers, i would agree crossplay would be unbalanced but there isnt. If the game was a super close quarters game, which it isnt for the most part, then id agree. If this game didn't require knowledge and skill, then id agree, learning the weakness of both ships, barrel placements, ranges, when to shoot your cannons, etc etc, is required.

  • I like crossplay, it lets me play with friends who don't have a beefy PC. And let's face it. If it was optional there would hardly be any crossplay since the Xbox players don't want to be disadvantaged and servers optimized for PC would be better since they wouldn't have to limit the game to make it fairer for Xbox players.

In my opinion they should just let Xbox players have mouse support. This push for crossplay might just force their hand.

  • @onyx-wartooth
You don't have a problem & thats grand, but controller aiming speed cannot be levelled with a mouse by using the palm of your hand on the joystick.
You can point & click with a mouse almost instantly, due to the limitations of an analogue stick on a controller this is not possible!

The people hacking are PC only, to say there are hacks for SOT on xbox is untrue.

Take it from a guy who plays on both PC & Xbox, there is a large difference in my personal performance. PC is easier & quicker to aim, i load back from FOD 2 -3 times faster on pc, i can rebind any item to any key on kb+m, i can change the dpi on my mouse to enable me to aim/turn even faster & i can setup macros to do numerous tasks with a single click!
Headshot multipliers have got nothing to do with the balance, the main issue is controller vs kb+m.

  • @onyx-wartooth if many people before me have posted an issue regarding the same subject then this should tell you that it is a widespread concern. It is not a bad thing to see repeat posts, that simply means that many other people would like the devs to see that there are others who feel the same way. Not all of us Xbox noobs have god-tier “palms” like you.

Secondarily, this is a game that appeals to a wide age range of players. When I am playing with my 60 year old father who can barely comprehend joining a party, he can’t hold his own against other Xbox players, let alone PC players. This same rationale can be used in regard to the younger audience as well, many young children play this game on Xbox. Just because you are the top 5% minority who solo sinks a 4 man galleon full of PC players doesn’t mean the way you feel is best for the community.

  • @rk1-turbulence
Most xbox players want to be sitting in front of their tv in comfort with controller in hand. They don't want to be sat at a desk etc.
Why should console players have to change the form of control that they have been using for over 30yrs without issue, just because of 1 game that is imbalanced & unfair?
Wouldn't it be easier to make pc players use a controller?

  • @caisterkaos On the contrary, it would be hard to force PC players to use a controller. Even now there are people bypassing the restriction on Xbox to play with mouse and keyboard and any serious PC gamer would do so without breaking a sweat. It would also hurt their sales immensely, as PC gamers who don't want to bother with that simply wouldn't buy the game.

Also I don't buy that a majority of Xbox players play on Xbox rather than PC for any other reason than price.

  • @rk1-turbulence
So it's not ok to try & make pc players use a different form of control, but it would be ok to make xbox players use kb+m?
Having a game that is imbalanced & puts the majority of its player base (xbox players) at a disadvantage will also hurt sales.

What has price of the xbox compared to a pc got to do with anything?
Apart from the usual PC put down over console users, pathetic!
I have a 1080ti gaming rig & an xbox. I bought my xbox to be able to play xbox games & to enable me to play with my xbox live buddies.
I have been buying consoles since the Atari 2600 W***y, so saying people only buy xboxes instead of pc is just a ridiculous statement & just makes you seem like a rather petty shallow person!

    Lol. Where to start?

Enabling mouse support doesn't make anyone do anything. Currently MS makes Xbox players use a controller unless they buy an unintended third party work-around.

Good job knowing more than MS about making money on selling games, they should hire you.

Price has everything to do with the success of consoles. They are made dirt cheap by mass producing standardized machines and further making up for the low price with expensive games, as opposed to the alternative of buying a PC for gaming. I think this is brilliant and I've had a lot of fun playing Xbox since the first one, right up until I recently got a proper PC. I did not intend to put down anyone, as I've been a console player for the majority of my life. (Sorry for using the four syllable word "majority" again, I noticed you struggle with it.)

Notice how I don't brag about my PC, while you feel the need to do so. You're projecting.

  • The game don't have a combat system so complicated...
For me as a pc player, i have the sensation that the AIM assistance is too present mostly when u are in close combat and its here for xbox players...

when your camera turn up to 90° because an other pirate walk side of you can be fustrating :/

  • This dead horse has been beaten over and over.

There is only 1 hit box. No head shots. Xbox has aim assist. True you dont have the turn capacity. Add a turn Axis adjust feature

Easy way to fix the fps is to add a hard cap code wise to 30 or 60. PC sees this alot with ports. Honestly higher fps is not any serious advantage.

Add a global cool down between gun fires. (one I hate personally and I am on a pc) Would eliminate the macro switch gun spam. If you used one gun maybe have the other on a global reload like timer. AND/OR make each gun run off the same ammo reserve and add an activate time to reload from the ammo box and make it so its not a bulk restock make sure its one bullet at time that you have to keep holding the button to restock. Maybe have a cooldown from boarding a ship that would simulate wet powder

I really think the guns should be situational use not an I win button.

Kill cam is not needed. Someone that hid behind a barrel and you walked past because you did not pay attention should not be a thing. I cant tell you how often ive hid behind the galls captains quarters door just to recover and wipe a full crew. You negate someones tactics.

Yeah I agree, good concept but unfair for your average players. Hopefully they do something for you Xbox guys soon

  • @nwo-azcrack dev's disagree., I have seen one admit that on a forum.

  • In some games like fortnite, pc has a significant advantage. But not in this game. When it comes to sinking your ship, effective sailing and cannoning is what decides battles, not gun skill.

And you can assign item shortcuts on Xbox too. Really the biggest advantage is the keyboard so you can actually talk to people with no mics.

  • @goodsamaritan11 so everyone that kills you is a pc griefer?

  • @skithey
Just an FYI, but there is no aim assist on xbox.

  • @xgodkevin said in Cross Platform play has me ready to quit.:

@goodsamaritan11 so everyone that kills you is a pc griefer?

I don’t recall stating that anywhere in my posts and I fail to see how your post is contributing to the discussion. I get plenty of kills. What I am referring to is being shot out of the air by a cannonball as I am shooting myself toward another ship, or being one-shotted while underwater and 50 feet from the enemies ship as I board. These are things that happen far too often in this game. An Xbox controller does not allow for that level of speed or precision, so I can’t help but wonder if it is hacking or m/kB advantage.

What it comes down to is this; there is no reason to deny players the choice. Whether or not the advantage exists, there is no reason to force players into cross play. The servers are small enough in numbers that you could populate the world with less than 50 people on each platform. Since the crossplay isn’t due to lack of players, and is only to allow friends to play together, it should be optional.

  • @goodsamaritan11 I still enjoy the game daily but I believe they do need to work on some balancing or allow mouse and keyboard on Xbox, then nnoone could complain.

  • @goodsamaritan11 your whole post is about cross platform and constant complaining about pc pc players. so you have no clue what you are talking about. Sounds like another player not doing as good as he thought he would and blames the pc players. Just like all the others. GG

  • @xgodkevin said in Cross Platform play has me ready to quit.:

This post also contains no contribution to discussion and offers no logical argument.

  • @goodsamaritan11 I see you have no other answer than that. Shows I'm right. Plenty of console players that are amazing at all types of games, it's about the player skill yet you blame what they use to play. Your argument is moot. Good day.

  • Out of curiosity ... do any of you play FPS games with a controller on PC? Do you find it effects overall performance?

  • @guybrushcrpwood Awesome contribution to the discussion! I would like to know as well!

  • @caisterkaos said in Cross Platform play has me ready to quit.:

...to say there are hacks for SOT on xbox is untrue...

There are hacks for SoT on Xbox. I use one. It makes me bloody awful at PvP! xD

  • I disagree. Now that all of my family and friends can game together regardless of platform choice, we couldn’t be happier.

If players want Xbox to have keyboard and mouse support as an available option, that’s fine by me.

However, I for one - am thrilled with what they have done and so are all of my friends and family that play together (most of which are on XBox).

  • I think it is very important to make a difference between "Hacking" and "PC Player" as they can but will not always be the same. Hacking = Cheating. Your not going to get an advantage over that and it needs addressed. Yes, as far as I know all hackers currently do so via means on a PC. That said PC players are not always "Hackers". Personally I do not find that PC players always own me, I have been the only Xbox player on a galleon and saved our team from certain death numerous times. I understand the thought on controller versus mouse but I am not seeing it break the game or cause me any issues. Sometimes, I run into a battle guns blazing and get shot. Getting shot = You lost that one. Just trying to plant another perspective for everyone to consider, being mine doesn't mean it's right.

    Love you all, mean it!
    Arrrgghh
