Ship Drift Question

  • I just had a question about how ships seem to drift, or turn, on their own even when the wheel is completely straight. Is this by design or is it a bug? I do not mind it, but I am curious if it is intentional since it was, as far as I can remember, not in the Alpha, Beta, and at least during the first week or so of the launch version. Another reason why I am not sure if it was intentional or not is that it seems like it has been removed or at least lowered to the point where I barely notice it. Unless I am blind, I did not catch it in the patch notes or anything.

Asking because I am not sure if I should submit a bug report.

  • It's definitely intentional, but I don't know what it's actually tied to. Could be the direction of the waves. Maybe someone a bit more knowledgeable can help out more.

  • You sure you didn't just leave a tiny bit of sail unrolled?
Today my ship stayed in the same spot even in a storm, no drifting that I noticed.

  • Your post in ambiguous, not sure if you are talking about your boat on the move or standing still.

Waves will push your boat, even when you have the wheel straight, this was true in the alpha, but only when you are on the move. When you are standing still your ship does not move regardless of waves, wind or watever. What can happen is that the wheel is ever so slightly off center, and can turn your ship while it's unanchored and with sails all the way up.
