We need to chat about the outcry of Conent

  • Ahoy scoundrels of the sea,

Guys we need to chat about the outcry for content. We all want more content and love to browse on the forums and read the wonderful and fun ideas our community have for SoT.

But friends I tell you that content will not come in 10 days. That is monumental order for the team at Rare. I believe that they will deliver and I also strongly believe that Rare takes the opinions and ideas of our community to heart. We saw this act in how Rare handled the death tax. We must be patient though. We should focus more on what we love about SoT and continue to support Rare with feedback.
As I touched on earlier, the game was released ten days ago. Ten days my friends. It took Prodigy nine to hit Legendary through boosting. I'm sure the we are moving at a rate exceeding their projections, which is great but we need to give them time to deliver.

I hope that you all understand what I'm attempting to propose to the community.

    Safe sailing,
    -Throen43

  • The guy who got legendary status basically cheated his way there.

I am very ok with the content as it is. More will come.

  • So why didn't Rare delay the game 4 months to actually add some basic content into it?
Rushed releases SHOULD be punished harshly.

Have you played the game? It has more than "basic" content right now.

It doesn't even have the most basic stuff you'd expect from an AAA game. Even though this is an Indie game.

Well we are at completely opposite tables on this one. Me and my crew LOVE the game.

  • @cupohemlock care to elaborate on what "basic" content is and what more there is to the game?

Because right now your options are A) complete fetch quests for treasure, or B) hunt players for a chance of treasure

Or do the forts that take 4 hours because of the broken respawn system.

  • @monkeyyak Unfortunately I have not an answer to that question. I don't work at Rare. But there is no reason for punishment at all I think. We should be patient and ride the waves till the next big legend is uncovered. This is a game about fun and it's pretty easy to find good fun for what little there is. Imagine what will come next. Doesn't that excite you just a bit?

I honestly don't care when the content is coming, I just want to know that it is actually coming.

Some kind of roadmap or post detailing a future patch. They don't have to show us every detail of what's to come, but they need to show us something. Their statement of being transparent falls flat when they continue to keep their community in the dark about the game in its entirety.

  • @throen43 The problem isn't content at all, it's in the way content is delivered.

They will never be able to deliver the level of content that people will demand, because they've boxed their adventure game into a grindy RPG structure.

This game has enough content to be spectacular, it's just in the wrong places. For example, I never have to find buried treasure - someone just tells me where it is and I have to run and go get it and beg the game for my reward. When the reward is unsatisfying, that builds resentment. In a game with a horizontal progression system, it would take an unbelievable amount of "content" to keep that model satisfying for any significant amount of time.

If I had it my way - one person on the outpost selling treasure maps, the rest (skeletons, chickens, random bits on islands) you find on the way. Everything you find or loot in the PvE environment can be sold for gold, which increases your "explorer" rating, whether you spend it and stay at a 0 balance or hoard it. That explorer rating unlocks cosmetics that signify that you are good at finding treasure.

Meanwhile, when you sink a ship it immediately sends their treasure into your hold and marks it as "plunder." You still get gold to spend on cosmetics, but sales of plunder increase a "plunder" rating instead of "explorer," unlocking separate cosmetics that signify you are good at sinking ships.

Horizontal progression in a system that rewards adventure over loot and deepens the experience between players.

    Fine options.

The game needs more content, we don’t disagree on that, but you just disregard the basic core if the game as it is not worthy and other players can think otherwise. I like the fetch quests and basic content, we just need more.

  • @throen43 Are they delivering for free or do I need to pay another 40$ to make the game complete? My other complaint is just how poorly design everything is. I am not talking about the sailing aspect or the graphics, they did well there. I mean simple stuff that should have been hammered out in Alpla and Beta. It's like all the testers were fanboys and they just heap praise on Rare and it became an echo chamber, where anything critical of the game was shouted down.

    What I mean is:

    1. Awful party system, how Rare settled on this is beyond me. The party system should be just like the tried and true systems in EVERYOTHER multiplayer game. There is nothing charming or unique about the current party system, it's just bad.

    2. A game based around cosmetics and no way to see cosmetics on your character, except a very static paperdoll. Bad.

    3. The progression system is very narrow, all quests are pretty much the same(Like most games), but there is no effort here, it just randomly generates items to find/retrieve/kill and does not even take into account your level, except you get 2 maps instead of 1, even though they all could be castaways.

    4. Limited cosmetics, I mean really?! I haven't even bothered changing out of my Black Dog outfit, because why bother. Once I get a sail and hull, I'm "complete".

    5. The insane grind to legendary was to conceal the fact there is no legendary content(I reached the core of the galaxy, now what?). What's the point? Yeah to have fun, no one plays a game they don't enjoy. Progression adds to a games shelf life and end game is always the goal, when there is a poorly design endgame(aka Destiny 2), people start finding other games to challenge them.

    6. The respawn system, again something that should be so obvious and yet seems like no one even tried.

I'm sure there is more I am forgetting, but don't get me wrong I play this game alot. I'm always on the forums(bashing the game) and thinking about playing, when I can't play. I rail on it so hard because it blows my mind how Rare charged 60$ for this game and it is so very shoddy. The sad thing is the core of the game is amazing and thats what keeps me playing, but it doesn't give Rare a free pass to [mod edit] on everyone. It's obvious why they were just throwing out bits and pieces in the betas and keeping the NDA tight. They had a shell of a game.

Unless Rare wants to go down the same path as Bungie, they should apologize and acknowledge the problems(which they sort of have), get a clear roadmap(not some vague comments), throw the community a bone(a decent, free content drop) and get to work on there vision. For the love of god, be transparent with what is coming and what we can expect, don't take another c**p on the community. I love this game, let's get it fixed!

They were pushed because MS dont have much to offer atm.

I am certain Rare wouldnt have the game released this year.

  • @mostlyjustokay Do you think rate could tackle a progression system like that now that the game is out?that sounds a solid bit of mechanics that could do the game good.

  • @lobofh

I'm not disregarding anything. Buddy claimed that it had more than basic content, but refuses to elaborate on what that even means.

The fetch quests would be fine if there was something other than just PvP to change up the pace every now and again. Just going back and forth between fetching and hunting is fairly lackluster.

Yes, the game only came out last week, but they've had a years worth of feedback from the community throughout the alpha, betas and stress tests and changed very little. How do you think that affects the community's view on Rare?

  • It took 9 days constant boosting, This is the bigger worry for me is how long is that for a simple mortal? how many game hours is needed esp as the later levels will require more and more to rank up?

  • @lumpaywk said in We need to chat about the outcry of Conent:

The grind is absolute garbage, and rep gain, as well as voyage reward at higher tiers needs tweaking. Multiplier on each successive item handed in at outpost with a 2 minute timer that removes it if no other hand in is made? Idk.

I know if you're one of those people who say they're playing the game for "fun and enjoyment and not grinding", as if you cant play for fun and enjoyment as well as grind, you can pretty much expect never to hit pirate legend with the way it is right now.

  • @finanzminister I agree, it is most likelyMS pushing for a release due to the lack of first party games than Rare not caring. Rare will listen to what we want moving forwards, that I have no doubts.

For those that have not seen it check this thread and vote, Rare be watching...
    https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/39577/vote-for-post-launch-content-poll

In the first week they sent a patch out to fix bugs, which it has for most people, not a lot of games companies do that sometimes taking months before the first patch. They will continue to iron out the bugs as this is their priority right now, we will have to accept that content will be a while longer yet. I'm happy with the game so far so I can wait for now.

  • @cupohemlock good god I was tilted off the planet watching this mongoloid be the first to hit pirate legend but can't even navigate through his damn inventory or simply solve one of the easier riddles in the game. The riddle literally said "play a tune and it's near under ground" what does this moron do immediately? Changes his clothes and sails to the middle of the sea. SMFH Only to find out 2 hours later he was already in the right spot where he got the damn riddle. The dude is so terribly bad at this game. Then their 4 man galleon was sank by a sloop, he ragequit and called stream snipe and left.

Your first pirate legend ladies and gents ... can't even sink a 2 man sloop from a 4 man galleon.

  • @throen43

I'll admit, I am very disheartened with the nothing there at level 50.

This is a beautiful looking game with wonderful mechanics which disappoints with lack of things to do. Similar in so many ways to Destiny 2.

The game is now purely a social enterprise where the only fun to be had is to play with friends and only friends. There is absolutely no reason to grind or to play with randoms (playing with randoms is the absolute worst).

I'll drop back in from time to time to do the Skull raid with friends but I will not be in everyday trying to get to level 50.

  • @tiltreformed half the chat was like its in the ouposts and him and his crew were still ignoring it lol, the sloop part was hilarious though, oh look they are shooting at us must be a stream snipe. he had no clue how to play the game just stood there like an unflushed t**d lol,

    highlights were
didnt know you could play other shanties
didnt know how to play other ones
didnt even learn how to block in the game until like the day before the stream
had to be told where chests where to change clothes

  • @tre-oni That is actually one of my biggest gripes at the moment. The lack of mission variety wouldn't be as big a deal if pirate legend didn't take so long to actually hit. With the way the ramp goes up it feels unattainable for someone who only plays 10-20 hours a week, and not solely grinding out skeleton forts while doing it.

Almost all companies patch after launch, it's the norm not the exception

  • @mattydove74 I didn't mean for it to sound like an exception.
From my experience I've had to wait for patches to fix bugs, the updates you get at launch are mainly (not always) there to activate parts of the game.

yeah i was just taking my time but it seems looking at the ranking system i need to start actually putting in work.

  • There is no lack of content... the problem is that people want "new" content because the game isn't what THEY want it to be.

The modern gamer is becoming an absolute pest on the gaming community as a whole.

  • @throen43 Thanks for this thread, it's a needed discussion. The issue I have and I think others will too is that even if Rare have given themselves 3 months for the first post-launch content update, they have had four years to create such content. Whenever they actually started on it, they are not far enough along with it to have even announced and outline of what we can expect. Thursday is the usual day promotional material is put up on their Youtube channel, but it passed yesterday with silence. We had a development update a few days ago, but this detailed Rare's plans in regards reacting to feedback following release, rather than pro-active plans going into the future.

The people who work on such content are designers, asset creators, writers, all coming under the umbrella of 'quest design' usually in live-service games. So they are not the same people working on fixing bugs or implementing mechanical design changes like yes or no to the death tax and revising respawn mechanics. They should have something to do now, something to talk about, but how many of them are and for how long? Rare really needed to show us something yesterday.

  • Love the game in theory...but I'm bored of it already. Feels bad man

  • @monkeyyak

There is basic content in the game.
