Voyages arent valuable enough.

  • This is a pretty frustrating part of this game that a lot of people have voiced.

The below pic is around 3.5-4 hours of game play, solo, without any hindrances, 4 x level 20 gold hoarder voyages. No deaths, literally just going from point A to Z as instructed.

I had another 3 castaway chests below deck that I couldnt bring up for the pic, was getting chased by a Galeon.

The net result? Around 1.5k gold...

A sail is 70k gold, @ 4 hours per day which id say would be the "average" players play time, it would take 46 days to get..cmoooon

One could argue that I got unlucky with all the low loot chests, lets be generous and say I was lucky, knock off 15 days for the outcome, roughly 30 days before I could see a sail? Outrageous.

Now, I am not one to say make it super easy, infact, I am happy with the value of items when you sell them, what doesnt balance is the work to gold ratio. That is to say, you don't get paid anymore, for longer voyages, or more effort.

A single Gold hoarders quest could net you 1.5k, or you could roll the dice and get a 4 island hop voyage that gives you 4 castaway chests and you get b****r all, yet you worked 4x as hard and long for it.

    =(

  • @gianni001 I am inclined to agree with you on the rewards for gold hoarder quests. The merchant quests pay much more if you have a any sort f golden animal among the list. The best rewards from from Message in a Bottle quests, if you can find them, and Skull Forts. But damn, skull forts by yourself is super difficult and very time consuming. That being said, stealing a key from another group is also loads of fun.

  • I'd settle for just some consistency. Did a rank 30 Gold Hoarder voyage earlier and got 3 Castaway Chests. I've also turned in a Captain's Chest, Chest of Sorrows, and 1000 Grogs, and got 970 for Captain, and 8-900 for the other 2.

  • @gianni001 Me and my friends spent 4 hours doing one level 20 gold hoarders voyage, 2 bottle message quests, one level 20 souls quest, a skeleton raid, and we looted 2 other ships. We sold it all, and got 30k gold. That sucks that your voyages only gave you 1.5k in total, but it is definitely possible to get much much more.

  • right now I don't feel like a treasure hunting pirate I just feel like a guy with a metal detector on a beach who gets lucky every once and a while. I'd prefer voyages to be harder and take longer but have one big payout at the end.

  • I feel order of souls has been the best for me. I thought this as well earlier. Me and a buddy grinded for 6 hours and hit every ship wreck, message in a bottle, powder keg, and netted about 12k for one drop off. 6 voyages. We only found 2 captain chest, 2 villianous. We had ALOT of stuff...

We dropped everything off and hit a skull fort and made another 13k in 45 minutes..

I've done 2 order of souls and gotten 8 skulls. 2 of them being villainous. ~4k in 2 hours.

All these times avoiding pvp entirely.

It is pretty inconsistent with amounts for chest and skulls. And higher level voyages done guarantee better chest. But I think ultimately higher voyages grant more chest, giving you a higher probably of getting a better chest.

It's all about those ship wrecks thou.

  • I think u got unlucky with ur voyages.
Im 28 on goldhoarders and got everything on the picture in 1 voyage and 1 shipwreck. (I guess around 1hr)

  • Yeah that sucks, High-level voyages don't reward you as much so I try to do only the skull forts (Because that's the only thing that's fun in the game) till they fix the voyages, Higher level voyages get's more difficult and the rewards are pretty much the same.

    Which is stupid.

  • What is the point of higher level voyages if you still get the same c****y chests? Four chests is all you had time to make in four years? (not counting the special chests) This game should have 10-15 different chests where you see more lucrative chests as you rise in rank. It will take me 3 years, playing solo, to get a colorful sail.

    Not making it that far....

  • @gianni001 Nah, they're good, they might even give a little too much gold. The game would get very boring if you could afford to buy everything so quickly.

  • I have to agree with you on that me and my friend spent around 3 hours on the game and only got one seafarer and everything else castaway I don't need money at this point but I do need exp and sadly there is no booster or something to match exp with the level and the only way to even get a bit of exp is by doing skull forts and I makes me feel like ill be level 28 on forever and that's sad as I was super hyped for this game and now I'm fighting to not be board.

I'm already bored at 12,000 gold. What makes me mad is when I try to explore underwater caves or land caves (that I don't need to go into) and there is absolutely nothing in these places. There is NO REASON to explore anything except the X marks the spot.

  • @padd All people have difference tastes, and most do not enjoy longwinded, unrewarding grinding.

Honestly with the quality of cosmetics in this game, I'd honestly prefer it if there was never any cosmetics or shops and gold was just so you could pile it up somwhere to show off, like the pause room in Fable 3.

Doing quests is kinda fun, but also very lacklustre. I'd rather a beter variety of ways to ge gold than what to spend it on right now. But to link to your comment, consider at least that as you rank up in the guild, you will earn more. It's just very inconsistant.

As for non pvp earnings, just pick some order of souls voyages and focus on wreckages. Wreckages seem to offer hte best income to efort ration in my experience, and you just take them on opprtunity rather than having to search for them specificly. Hoarders voyages can offer too little for too much time spent completing them, and MA voyages are only much good if you build up a stock of animals first. Skulls are fairly easy to find most the time, and a lot of them occur on smaller islands and can be done easily with boom barrels or cannon.

Or just play pvp. you can still dig up a captains chest or high end skul from a wrckage here n there, and sometimes take a lot of booty from other players. I lost 8000 worth today because some guy spent about 25 minutes chasing me and I had to turn the game off. So he got it all I guess.

  • @scurvyrod that sounds like a you problem

  • Merchant Quest should definitely pay more, they’re the most time consuming and annoying.

  • @star99er Definitely got a quest for 3x pink and black spotted pigs. Never been so upset in a while even with PvP. How could 3 islands with pigs not have a single one I wanted !

Im convinced that the game knows what animal you need, and changes it's spawn algorithm to suit.

  • @gianni001 They did this on purpose you know lol. They want people to keep grinding, but also to slow them down so people don't hit the end too fast because nothing is there atm. lol. It's blatantly obvious as you grind to 30 and the only thing really worth it are raids.. and that's just a bit

Forgive me if this comes across as condescending, but you know the xbox will take screenshots if you push the home button and push y?

  • The thing that bothers me the most about the gold rewards for voyages and stuff is that the amount of gold each player of a 4 player party receives for cashing in any item is the same as what each player of a 3/2 player party or even a solo player gets for cashing in that same item.

I think all items should be worth 4x as much globally, but then when cashed in it should be split evenly between the number of party members, so taking on high level voyages as a solo or duo is appropriately more rewarding to account for the increased difficulty due to less manpower.

This might lead to more people choosing to play on the sloop the maximise their profits, but I think this could be balanced out by not giving any extra faction rep to smaller crews so there is still an incentive to being in a larger group so you can clear each voyage quicker for maximum rep gain.

I would also suggest that a stake system could be added to give galleon groups who regularly play together a way to funnel more money from each turn-in to the group leader (captain) so they can be the one to buy the expensive boat cosmetics.

Kind of like the system in GTA online when doing heists were you can agree what share of the reward each player gets ahead of time, though it should be each players choice to give up a part of their stake to the captain, not the captains choice to force them to do so.

  • @loki-tdd Well first off, I am on PC. Usually I would just hit F12 for a screenshot, but I didnt have my steam overlay running with my game at that moment, so i wasnt capable of taking a screenshot. Second off, that was my friend that took the pictures with his phone and sent them to me. It is sorta hard to see, but in the second picture you can see my gamertag.

  • I feel that they are valuable enough, there just isn't enough stuff to buy for cheaper prices. Once you hit level 35 with the factions, they start being more profitable than forts due to how much they pay.

  • @gianni001 As you get higher rank the chests have higher chances of rolling as higher level chests. You got unlucky once, move on. Also, playing solo will usually mean you are not doing things as fast as you could in a group.

Ah right sorry, just saw the hold x to pick up loot indicator and thought you were on xbox.

  • They have to cut the chance for a castaway chest to 0% after you hit lvl 15 or 20. After that Seafarer...

I personally just do voyages with 3-4 X-makrs. When i don't get it i just abort it cause no worth to do the puzzle for a useless chest.

  • Agreed. Just spent 2 hours or so and got next to nothing (gold lvl 30 voyage).

Did the stupid riddle quest got a seafarers chest. Not great, but thought whatever cause I found a marauders random on the island and got a second map for the voyage with 6 X markers. (Awesone right?)

Nooo. NOT SO. End result of that island was 4 seafarers chests and 2 castaways, what a waste of time.

  • Agreed with OP. I've done a ton of voyages level 20+ for order of souls and gold hoarders. I always seem to get castaway chests and foul skulls. Out of multiple gaming days of a few hours each, I have maybe one a week where I get more than 1 captains chest (if 1). I usually end up making like 2k gold on average which is pitiful.

I was astonished when I found out this WASN'T the case, actually, as this would've made perfect sense by pirate standards as well: more crewmembers means more you'd need to split the loot with, and a soloist may have a much harder journey but will be getting to keep all of the loot they find.

  • Voyages for order of souls and gold hoarders in general should receive a boost when turning in voyage-related chests. This is how it works for merchant alliance after all. What real incentive is there in paying 80 gold for 5 castaway chests when I could just go to a shipwreck and cash in a captains chest a lot quicker and cheaper.
