Just watched the Angry Joe review.

  • @hahaha-lol-l**o Oof...did you actually go through the trouble of creating an account just to say that? facepalm

  • @thygrrr True, but when so many resources before launch were available to judge the game on your own terms, why put the fault on Rare and Microsoft (for allowing the description)?

@n8CST What does this have to do with the current discussion?

  • @stephenfarren I don't think you are informed enough what Rare promised and what the didn't. In fact what is your definition of a promise to you in this context? As promised I see things the devs said in interviews / and things said in promotional videos.

Just watch this video which you might have already.
2:35 Knowledge? What kind of knowledge? How does this knowledge help is progress in this game? Is this in the game atm?
2:46 The stories of other pirates? Can I find their secret chest hidden full of cosmetics some where? Can I find their lost pet? Their ship maybe? How can I progress with this? Does this give me more reputation?
4:14 I am not sure this happens BEFORE you reach the pirate legend. I like how he said "difficulty" and "complexity" but not "diversity".
4:21 This Skeleton? Sorry but I get excited when I see something new.
I can go on and on with every video. But it is not only that. This game was hyped to the sky by MS, Rare and us the players. This was the comparison to NMS. NMS made huge promises and failed to fulfill them within time. I refuse to believe that so many people are feeling mislead based simply on their expectations. Rare had definitely a key role in this thing. And that is okay because you should praise and hype your baby. But it turns out that we players did not even know the gender. That is how some feel. And did not compare directly SoT to NMS that is to say which one is better. He simply stated that it brings back flashbacks. I share this opinion.

  • @simply-nephalem You have access to the figures showing who has requested a refund? Amazing!

  • @tedakin said in Just watched the Angry Joe review.:

While I don't think this game is a 4... That's low... Joe does have some very valid points. The devs could do themselves a favor by watching his review and taking some of it to heart.

Joe definitely did have valid points, but the ripoff statement felt misplaced.

  • @thejolirouge said

But they speculate. They expect. Then they rage.

    100%

  • "In the final live stream"

Hm so we're in 2018 and I will have to watch +500h of contents before buying any games so I can be sure this company is not trying to scam me.

    Legit.

  • @simply-nephalem You are really grasping to try to find things they lied about. Most of that stuff is generic PR hype speech. Of course Rare definitely played a part in overhyping the game, but it's the job of the consumers to keep that hype in check.

  • @sn4res I don't but I know that a lot of friends have gaven up on the game. AngryJoe also wants a refund. Basically a lot of people that I know want a refund. IF NOT ALL. Based on the forums I see a lot of angry statements. Critically this game is not well approved. All I am saying that it is likely imo that a lot of people might want to refund this game atm.

Do you have the figures of players that bought the game and haven't asked for a refund? Don't go this road please! I stated my opinion and you cannot prove me wrong for now :) .

  • @simply-nephalem Do you have figures for how many people want a refund? How about the total amount of sales, so we can know the percentage of those who want refunds? You have based your argument on anecdotal evidence, yet expect others to provide actual statistics.

  • @simply-nephalem But you stated it as if it's factual! Don't speak for the entire playerbase or make such wild statements when there is no way of any of us knowing the actual truth. It's pointless. lol

Unless you have the data, or evidence it's an opinion - but you're entire post is 'most people are asking for a refund because of blah blah'.. Whch may or may not be the case, but noone knows and noone can confirm it.

[edit - guess he deleted all his other posts[/edit]

  • @firetadpole7469 I don't have those figures. And this is my personal opinion based on the people I know that have bought this game. Although, that number is not enough to make a statistical statement it sure says something at least in my eyes.
My point was that Rare perfectly well knew what they will provide us on launch day. And when they went on that road with AAA price they must have known that they will raise expectations implicitly.
I am very curious about the total amount of sales as well. I hope this game survives this storm and finds a stable ground. But to my mind, they made that task more difficult with the price they have chosen. Judge me all you want. It is my opinion.

  • @sn4res it is pointless in your eyes. Other might share the same view. If it is pointless to you then just ignore it. Cheers.

  • @simply-nephalem lol, Hey - I have a unicorn in my back yard.. If you don't believe me, that's fine. You can't prove i'm lying.. Good day sir!

    • and all my friends said they have one too!
  • Going on what feels like 1000 hours.

    Still not tired.

    "Fanboys"

    Nope!

  • @simply-nephalem I can agree with that. Rare did get themselves into this mess, now they have to dig themselves out. If you dig yourself into a hole, stop digging. Rare has slowed their digging but hasn't stopped it completely and needs to in order to gain back the trust of people like Joe. They need to take a step back, tell us what they are up to. Not necessarily in the form of a roadmap, but at least their general plan. Things like telling us about minor content additions to improve QOL and add some more flavor to the world, or how often they plan to update, and a more info on how they plan to implement MTXs.

  • @firetadpole7469 I agree to that. At this points it is a terrible decision to keep this community in the dark! We need a promise and a plan with what to expect and when. Because people are getting desperate about this game in general. And you have to blind not to acknowledge that.
I just hope this update comes soon enough. It will be a very big deal for SoT to survive the expiration date of the Game Pass. At this point I don't think that Rare sees this good enough. Because if they did then this plan will be published already.

  • @firetadpole7469 said in Just watched the Angry Joe review.:

@ducky12497 The lowest review I had seen (from actual critics) before now was a 6 (5 on my scale means mediocre, so just above that). He gave it a 4 and compared it to the center of No Man's Skys galaxy. What? How are they similar at all, one was a deception, the other was just a large misunderstanding.

He said the Kraken wasn't as bad as the centre of the galaxy reveal but was close. I think hes being generous even calling it a Kraken. For me tentacles don't equal Kraken, I don't care how big they are. Those tentacles have to be connected to something or they're just sentient alien tentacles.

@the-bobcat-316 Why defend it at all? Rare and Microsoft haven't done anything for you. If you died they wouldn't care. Why defend a company that doesn't care about you or even know your name? It makes zero sense.

@StephenFarren Kraken isn't in the game. Just some tentacles. They spent two years on a boat. Every person in their office knew it lacked content and yet they still felt ok shipping it in this condition. Rare was extremely vague before launch constantly saying "More will be coming at/after launch". A lot of people hoped that meant that there was going to be loads of content at launch, not years down the road.

I suggest people read the interview with this developer and spread it around. If you're having a blast with the game that's great but if you stop being so personal about it acting like this game, if Rare needs your defending. I'm sure you'll be able to see why people are extremely frustrated with this game. https://screenrant.com/sea-thieves-repetitive-shallow-artist-rare/ https://stevivor.com/news/former-sea-of-thieves-artist-its-insanely-repetitive-and-shallow/

  • @lemonwave236035 Ah, I understand the comparison a bit more if he was talking about the Kraken, I just misheard him.

  • @firetadpole7469 I actually like sailing in the SoT. Don't give a c**p about story line or progress. If I need something like that I play Witcher3 or Kingdom Come. I usually play solo and stay away from PvP. Just my 2c.

  • @sl00pd00g I think the sailing mechanics are actually what hooked me in the first place. In 2016 when they did the PvP showcase, I fell for the sailing. However, in contrast to you I'm trying to be an early Legend, and I sometimes purposefully engage in 1v4 PvP for the fun of it(though I do have friendly moments from time to time).

  • @firetadpole7469 I did not have friendly moments at all in this game. So far everyone I met was a troll (except when you join a crew on Discord). My problem is that this game is not reflecting reality of the pirate age. During the pirate times there were areas that enforced the law and the areas where the law was shaky. This game is embracing absolute lawlessness, kill anybody with no consequences - this is the problem.

  • I think his review was spot on, actually that led me to watch about 2 hrs of reviews. I think I laughed and had more fun watching peoples reviews of the game than I did playing the game lol. that's kinda sad when I think about it though.

  • @sl00pd00g i find it crazy that no efforts were put in bringing crews together like trading or forming an armada. At this point of the game I don't see a reason not to be hostile. It divides this community further. Also no flag system... Skull flag for hostile... white flag for friendly.

  • @jumpiestdust213 his reviews are very good I think and I listen to him almost all of the times. Just this time I bought the game prior the review because I ... I even don't know why now.

I find it funny how people are like "this is a pvp focused game" when the trailer mentions pvp for maybe 30 seconds while talking about all the pve stuff for the rest.

  • @simply-nephalem game pass trial here :), I am glad they didn't include and option to turn off crossplay or I would of wasted $60 dollars! I didn't though so its all good. I do feel bad for those whom paid full price and are very unhappy about it! As for me, I haven't played since Saturday. It is no longer on my hard drive. Though I enjoy reading message boards a lot! So yeah I'm here reading in hopes some breaking news occurs that is relevant to the future! Oh and laughing my a**e off at other things lol.

  • @jumpiestdust213 I am in the same boat. I cannot go back to the game. I want to but I just can't somehow my expectations were crashed. I wanted this game to succeed so badly. To overshadows those battle royale and MMO games at moment. But after just a few days of playing it destroyed me because I knew it's potential. I am gonna return eventually but now I just can't since there is nothing left for me to do.
I know that becoming pirate legends won't be different from now. The game needs simply more things to do. And this community should stop fighting this and accept it for the better good and start giving good suggestion and support to good ideas to make the devs aware of them. When I see a post like "don't listen to the haters this game is awesome" that is not good for the game.

  • I'm not going to bad mouth sot, I'm just going to be honest, I've been a gamer since ping-pong tennis, I got my first spectrum 16k with no internet back then, I'm nearly 55 and keep on gaming. So I know how things have progressed over the years. These day's games do get released well before their finished, sot is missing a lot of content and I mean a lot compared to most mmo type games, BUT saying that, the free roaming and the way you use the maps to find gold and digging the chests up is great, BUT that to me is one part of the content. There is so much that can be added to this game to put it on par with other aaa games, it just needs time. I have to say to release a game lacking so much content wasn't such a good idea, but other then that I'm enjoying the game.

They've sold us the Barrel, now they just need to fill it.

  • @simply-nephalem I concur, same boat here...pun intended!

  • @thygrrr said in Just watched the Angry Joe review.:

Most people DO NOT watch live streams from the developers.

Most people buy the game after they see the ads. Or read the Microsoft Store description:

"From acclaimed developer Rare comes a shared-world adventure game that offers the ultimate pirate experience.

Packed to the seams with sailing and exploring, fighting and plundering, riddle solving and treasure hunting, Sea of Thieves has everything you need to live the pirate life you’ve always dreamed about."

I would consider this description misleading.

Ever bought a new car? Try seeing what those brochures say!! LOL

  • @firetadpole7469 but did we though? I played in the Alpha, Beta etc. But to say I didn't expect anything more. Well that would be a lie. Especially with how much they hyped components of it.

  • If anyone want to watch it.

  • Just watched 5 mins of this angry joe's video. LOL really, do people still put value into people like this opinions. Jesus everyone has an opinion, but to use that persons view instead of using your own is silly.

Game site review mean nothing to me and never will, as they are one persons opinion, the best way is to buy a game and play it for yourself and post on your own opinion, not some foul mouth idiot as this angry joe guy seems to be. LOL in all my years in gaming nothing changes and people still rely on other peoples opinions rather than their own.

It's like your friends going to watch a film and they tell you it's c**p don't bother watching it, but you do and find you liked it, follow your own views and not others.

  • @theunknownd Unfortunately I wanted to see Joe saying "Rare is a principle of how games should be made in terms of quality and replayability". But as stated multiple times even raged once this game must be for everyone (pve, pvp) full of content and so on.
Now I'm seeing pools on the forums what the players want... really?
