Merchant Allience is missing....excitement

  • I was very excited to finally see a new trading company in the game. Finally it was something different.

But after the first couple missions I was left, kinda mehh. Not disappointed, but maybe I was expecting it to hold my interest longer.

This is worrying, all it took was a couple missions to feel bored of a new trading company. This was suppose to be a huge aspect of the "new content" being held out from release.

And it took less then one hour to shrug my shoulders and think "this is kinda blahh"

    I don't know, maybe I'm overreacting.

  • Yeah, I have to agree. It's the same find something bring it back, except you might have to visit multiple islands instead of one. For me it actually became tedious after only 2 merchant alliance quests. D:

  • @furiouslyraging

Yeah I guess that's how I would put it, it felt more annoying then fun. All it took was doing a couple voyages to feel this way. To me that's the most worrying. How quickly I felt that way, for something that should be new and exciting.

Since you're also on a time limit, you con't knock out 5 voyages in a row. Or maybe go pvp for awhile, you're just forced to do this tedious fetch quest.

  • Petition to remove Merchant Alliance?

  • wow guys calm down. first of all you all seem to base your oinion on your first two missions (1 hour is about that much as well ). you haven't even leveled up and you gave up. Also you are not going to solve a problem of lack of content by removing content. If you are bored of one alliance there are two more to try. If you are bored of all of them just go hunt players or fight the forts

  • personally i like the pig/chicken gathering aspect of the MA, but i do feel they could add the option to buy/sell commodities to the MA as well, and make it an actual trading Company, i can just picture myself buying up supplies and sht in one outpost and then sailing to another to hopefully make a bit of money.

  • Unfortunately I suspect that the game is being overhyped, and most of the cool content will come out after launch. The current content does get boring, and it’s 80% of the content we will get March 20th.

  • @pendragonie Yeah, the game has huge potential and is amazing in some ways. At the same time, I think if they don't pump out a big chunk of content in the first 1-2 months after release it's gonna have some serious problems keeping players around.

  • I liked it. So much more relaxing than the Gold Hoarders voyages. I can just sail around and take my time looking for animals and supplies on islands.

  • @quickt1m3, Yeah I agree. Merchant Alliance quest need a lot of work. I'm half tempted to cancel my pre-order over this c**p-show. The merchant quests are not worth it in my opinion. The cages are a hassle, there is no direction on what islands might inhabit the types of creatures your'e looking for or anything so you are aimlessly sailing around wasting time.

  • Needs way more things to collect than just 3 animal types and gunpowder barrels... Hopefully they add a lot more in the near future.

I would avoid siting made up percentages like “80% of the (launch) content”.

You’re just making up facts to support your emotions.

  • I will admit I did find myself thinking “this might be very dry on my own.” However playing it with a friend last night I found it very entertaining.
It was a welcome break from digging up chests, and that’s the point, it’s not meant to be the hight of gaming, it’s supposed to be an aspect of a game and offer a different flavour to mix in.

  • @oni2anza It was intentional to not give you any direction. You have to learn which islands have what, so the more you play, the better you are at finding these things.

Also, this entire thread brings up a problem with this community right now. Judging the amount of content before the game comes out. What we should do is stop making assumptions of all kinds about content density. This way you stay away from disappointment or stop raining on peoples parades.

  • @tedakin I can't really say anything since it's not allowed on this forum but there will be more things to get for the missions.

  • It's another fetch quest company. There are some unique aspects to it, and there's potential for improvement. But at the end of the day, more types of fetch quests won't add much depth like the game needs.

  • @quickt1m3 You're right, and this is the exact criticism many people gave about all of the quests on offer. They're all very similar and more importantly, they all feel stale after 2 or 3 goes.

  • I have to agree as well.

In the two previous play sessions I participated in, my crew and I never tired of hunting chests, hunting players, or being hunted by players. The skeleton forts in this beta are also fun, and I don't forsee us tiring of those either. I expect that the Order of Souls voyages will be similarly fun.

But going from island to island, searching for a specific color of pig or chicken, with zero direction on where to find them... just is not fun. I don't hate it per se, but I'm already tired of it after just a single completed voyage.

I think the concept of the Merchant Alliance has lots of promise, but the execution on the voyages, at least what we are seeing early in the Beta, seems really lacking.

  • @oni2anza Fortunately the game is still in active development and comes out in 1 year.

  • @jack-littleshoe Buy? No... but you can find an empty crate for chicken or pig and go find one, catch it, and turn it in for a little coin and a little boost of rep to the MA.

  • @xdizzlef1x ...i wasn't asking a question, i was making a suggestion on what i would like them to add.

  • hmm I was plain disappointed. they're 100% fetch quests. I passed something like an hour going island to island to search for the right colored chicken while the pigs we randomly captured drove us mad squealing until one of ours started doing shouting contests with him and finally shot it.
And we made 146 coins for it. naw thanks I'll keep on chasing boxes and sinking ships to steal theirs, too. it's been boring and underwhelming and not really rewarding, considered that we can find a chest in around 1 minute once we arrive on the right island.

I know the voyage in this game is more important than the destination, but I also want hats to show my voyage off.

This post shares a lot of my sentiments as well, though I have a greater disdain for the Merchant's Alliance. I love the core gameplay of this game but it feels like the MA voyages have absolutely nothing at stake and are simply boring fetch quests

...and don't get me started on needing to speak to the quest giver to get pens...

I think that one thing that could make it a lot better would be to remove the mission cap of 3, and to be able to have the merchant quests always active, so that while you chase skeletons and chests around the world, you'll also capture animals when you encounter them. I can see a funny scenario in which I'm counting my steps to find a chest when I suddenly call screaming for my teammates to bring a cage because that one chicken we need for a quest we had for one hour just crossed my road.
Making them the focus is just pretty boring, and not even really good fun for pacific players since they'll encounter aggressive ones that'll attack them, and they'll see their cute little piggies drown squealing a slow and painful death. pretty bleak

Yeah, skulls. Which are like minion forts with less skeletons and poorer loot.

Meanwhile I have to say i got bored with the forts, too. The skeletons spawn in droves, can tank multiple blunderbuss close range shots and sniper rifle headshots, and are dead accurate regardless of how you try and dodge. And you have to stay there and kill dozens of them, ranging from the initial excitement to more of a frustrated boredom. we found ourselves sighing and asking with increasing annoyance if the captain would just please spawn. (then in one of 2 of them the crypt was laughably empty).

  • well, for me they are fun
it's not only hunting animals it's searching the islands, looking what animals inhabit those, write it down on my Notebook (I refuse to use a already made list from somebody else, that's like using a walkthrough) and getting to know the game, while checking the islands I find bottles, chests, explore "the island" itself, see if there are remarkable landmarks for future Riddles/Chests , other ships ect

    there is plenty to do.
I love it, this game feels like an old game from the 80-90s where you can explore the world for yourself read hints, wonder what happened to some old skeleton you found, crushed under a giant whale bone

  • Are the cages only avalaible on islands?, can we buy them to any trader?, I found an island with lot of animals but only one cage...I also catched a chicken with the wrong colour, can we release an animal?

  • @lobofh said in Merchant Allience is missing....excitement:

you can get the ones needed if you talk to the merchant trader again

  • @lobofh You can set the cage down and hit the chicken with your cutlass and it will disappear.

  • For me, I really like the MA, what I dont care for is the acquisition of the cages...Ive noticed they are actually quite frequantly found on the islands and you can get them from the merchant, but constantly having to worry about losing a cage or a caged animal...which still wouldn't be so bad if the voyage didnt stay on the table after collecting all the animals.

  • Anyone who has spent time listening to the developers of this game should know that the voyages aren't the point of it. They're supposed to be fetch quests, not as a core principle of the game but as a way to take you around the world. The point of this game is to feel like a pirate. It's the battles, and the good times, and the jokes, and the crazy trick you did that one time with a powder keg. This game isn't built to already have a story in place; it's a place for you to make your story.

  • @sweetcalf942652 You sir should be Rare's propaganda minister.

  • @pendragonie didn't realize you are a developer

  • @johnson-carl Probably not, I don't quality check my posts. I misspelled feel in that last one.

  • They should have made these merchant alliance quests like trade runs in archeage. At the strying point, it spawns shipments that you need to sell at X outpost. Risk is timer and potential PvP loss. Might not even need a timer to still have fun.

Merchants don't gather, they trade. Shouldn't have to do any of that. Should just be transporting and selling at the destination.

  • @meingott77 Merchants usually don't gather, you're right. That's why they're not gathering - you are. You get it, they sell it. You're not the merchant part of the alliance.
