🏴☠️ Idea: Give Flags Real Meaning & Add a "Wanted System" to Improve Player Experience
Hello pirates,
I’d like to share an idea that could improve the overall player experience in Sea of Thieves, especially for casual and solo players.
(I wrote down my ideas for ChatGpt, because im no Native Speaker)
⚓ The Problem
Flags already have an unofficial meaning, similar to real pirate history (white = peaceful, skull = aggressive, etc.).
However, most players completely ignore this.
From my personal experience:
Playing solo or even with friends often feels hopeless
Almost every ship attacks on sight
Peaceful intentions (like raising a white flag) are ignored
Encounters are dominated by highly aggressive “tryhard” players
I eventually stopped playing because of this.
Safer Seas is not a solution for me, since I still want a true multiplayer experience.
💡 The Idea: Make Flags Officially Meaningful
Introduce official flag roles with real consequences:
🏳️ Peaceful Flags → signal non-aggressive intent
☠️ Reaper Flags → signal aggressive / PvP-focused playstyle
⚖️ Consequences & Wanted System
If a ship with a peaceful flag attacks another peaceful ship:
They are automatically marked as a Reaper (criminal)
Added to a Blacklist / Wanted System
A bounty is placed on their ship
Further crimes:
Increase bounty level
Increase difficulty of survival
🚢 New NPC Faction (Anti-Pirate Force)
Introduce a powerful AI faction inspired by the East India Trading Company:
Starts as a single ship → grows into an armada hunting wanted players
Similar to a GTA-style wanted system
Extremely strong and dangerous
Effects on Blacklisted players:
Can only sell loot at Reaper’s Hideout
Constantly hunted by AI + players
Increasing pressure with higher wanted level
👑 New Playstyle: Serve the Crown
Players can choose to align with the anti-pirate faction:
Hunt down Reapers for rewards
Reapers become visible targets after crimes
Encourages cooperation between non-aggressive players
⚔️ Reaper Gameplay Expansion
Reapers vs Reapers → no penalties, Winner get the rewards of the looser (treasures and Level)
Higher risk = exponentially higher rewards
True “outlaw” fantasy
🎯 Goal of This System
Make life harder (but more rewarding) for aggressive players
Give casual and peaceful players a real chance to enjoy the game
Encourage meaningful player interaction
Add historical immersion (end of the golden age of piracy)
Provide PvE challenges when PvP is unavailable
🧭 Final Thoughts
This system would:
Restore balance between casual and hardcore players
Make flags actually matter
Create more dynamic and immersive gameplay
