This sounds incredibly frustrating just reading this, I honestly don't know how you do it. We've had intense battles where we've sunk multiple ships against us at once. We were successful largely due to clear communication on our discord call. When we're in a battle, I'm not going to pause what I'm doing to read what another crewmember is taking additional time on their end to find the text or type it out. Having to communicate solely by the quick-text, would drive me crazy.
A while ago, we had a new player join us, who refused to get a mic. This person said he'd use the quick-text and claimed to be a fast typer, but it was pointed out that not only would our opponents be able to read it, but by the time we've read it, it could be too late. He then suggested he could give new meanings to the different quick-texts and expected us to memorize what "Enemy Here!" really meant. Not happening. So, he suggested having us memorize what different shanties meant as a form of communication. Again, no. He then said if he got a mic, he could play different notes on a piano to communicate, but since we couldn't memorize what a B sounded like compared to an A, we couldn't call ourselves experienced at the game, and he left our guild.
I'm not sure how many more quick-texts they could add before it becomes frustrating having to quickly find the right message or response while in a chaotic fight. Not sure if it's an Xbox setting you can change or what, but I hope you don't deal with this much longer. I couldn't do it.
