PvP is out of hand.

  • If you don't have anything, you don't really lose anything by getting sunk. You are actually wasting their time and resources, even more so if you put up a bit of a fight or run for a bit (while still fishing) and you keep them from targeting another ship that might have loot instead.

  • Today on HG, a guy appeared from nowhere flying on my ship, his ship was in front of me, he got no angle for deck shot (also no canon of rage). He double shot me mid air, open audio incredibly high playing some "adult content". I went to the ferry, entered the door and... double shot dead before i could spawn, from black screen to floating in the air. I've played this game since day 1, and i don't want to be crying about cheaters, but some things are really, REALLY weird, everytime i play HG..

Coudn't think of a worst experience on this game so far...

    Not entirely true.
If you're Captaining a ship you own, then you have to pay for repairs. That's gold lost.

You don't have to. I've never paid for repairs.

  • Sometimes when I want to sell and log off it seems like every outpost has a fresh spawn there. My 15+ minutes of sailing around trying to find a free outpost vs a fresh spawn taking 30 seconds to relog is just efficient .

Fish are some of the most valuable loot in the game. Loot for commendations take priority over loot for money/rep.

  • I think the simple change of alliances giving commendation/seasonal challenge credit no matter who turns in the loot would be a huge buff for PvE. During the molten sands fort we had a person killing others just to turn in the orb themselves so they get credit for the season challenge. Unnecessary fights would be lowered drastically. You could nerf the gold split for alliances or remove it entirely because gold is worthless anyway or add some other downside with this change.

Sure. When Rare shuts down all the Alliance Servers and cracks down all their Discord channels.

Which means never, since Rare obviously doesn't care enough about them. Haven't laid a finger on them yet even though they're well aware of their existence.

And the last thing I want, is to reward these pathetic exploiters even more.

  • I also have to agree with you during the last community day weekend I was watching twitch drops and there is one streamer in particular that will just go around sinking people but doesn’t take their treasure that is on board just goes to the next ship and most of the time, just change your servers so they don’t have to get supplies every time I’ve noticed this actually happening more and more endgame as well. People are not collecting supplies from the ships they are thinking. Only this week I was fishing just trying to do the accommodations. And another ship rolled up on me. I was tracking a storm and just sitting at a shipwreck. Just trying to catch one fish in particular. They started shooting me. I asked them nicely not too and explained why they did say they wanted my loot them they don’t sink me because I don’t need the cash, so they had the choice leave me alone and take what loot I did have on board, which was hardly anything I hadn’t even caught a fish yet

Just a bit of a problem I have with the games PvP I guess:

I have a few hundred hours (which I am very aware is not a whole lot of time in Sea of Thieves) but I prefer PvE with the threat of PvP. what I mean is that i totally understand the value in taking down another players ship because they have loot, as people tend to say in threads like these "its a pirate game". I understand that, and Safer Seas not only removes the possibility of coming across randoms but it also removes the sense of danger from receiving loot and obviously a lot of the value too. It should also be stated that there is absolutely no shortage of PvP opportunities: Hourglass, Every World Event, Random Encounters, ETC. and that is all fine and well, but what makes this game worse, is players who will go out of their way to sink you when you do not have anything. some of them are relentless too, while some give up when you aren't actually as easy of a target as they thought you were, but its increasingly common to be doing nothing more than fishing and get ran up on and sunk by people who are perfectly aware that you have nothing for them. I know there's an obvious point to including PvP in many aspects of Sea of Thieves, and I have seen several threads where people bring up similar issues that they have usually to be met with "that's just how it is" or "its not bad to do that really" and those types of answers aren't really helpful to the problem. to me, it feels as though there should be more of a compromise made regarding it, nobody wins in the event of ships rolling up and sinking new spawns or virtually empty ships, it just makes the game experience worse. It doesn't provide any sort of value or thrill to the idea of a pirate game like having valuables you want to sell safely or on the flipside wanting to sink someone who has valuables.

TLDR: PvP is good, PvP against fresh spawns and empty ships/fishing boats is actually incredibly bad for the game and takes away from the experience.

Post about getting sunk while “having nothing” (debatable btw) are always odd to me. If you had nothing, then you lost nothing. What is the issue? I imagine myself fishing at a seapost or something, watching my ship get sunk, and not caring at all because I lost nothing and my ship is a mere mermaid hop away. I imagine myself shopping at an outpost and hearing my ship get sunk from a distance as I search for leet items, and not caring because I lost nothing and a new ship is just a scuttle away. If you truly had nothing then who cares? If you actually lost something (like fish), then you had something…

I wouldn’t sink you in that position, at most I’d hop on your boat for an investigation and take chainshots, if you had any good food (like fish), I’d take that too. I think sinking someone in that scenario is useless, but again, you lost nothing so who cares?

I mean, it’s a PvPvE pirate game, and not all pirates are going to approach a harmless, not very lucrative boat the same way.

It’s so easy to stay incognito in this game. It’s so easy to avoid players. If you’re truly concerned then don’t have an emissary, be vigilant, and don’t expect high value events to be uncontested. Play to your abilities.

This game is very forgiving when it comes to losses. You get a brand new ship every time you sink, you don’t lose any gear, and you can mitigate big losses by selling often.

    Pirate game.

Point noted, but really, are we concerned about repair cost in a game where everyone has millions on accident?

  • Some posts have been removed in an attempt to yet again keep this thread on topic.

TLDR: PvP is good, PvP against fresh spawns and empty ships/fishing boats is actually incredibly bad for the game and takes away from the experience.

When emissary hunting, i.e. when I'm going out of my way to PVP, I tend to avoid going for ships at outposts. These ships have minimal loot / supplies. By the time they arrive, these ships would either dive away or lower their flags. I would PVP fresh spawns / empty ships only if I'm already headed to an outpost and they're at the nearest one. Sinking it = removal of threat = peace of mind to do my outpost business - whether it's selling or getting more supplies.

When I'm a fresh spawn, I rarely meet other ships unless I've been lurking at the outpost for a long time. By then, PVP is expected and adds to the experience.

    • If the ship truly has nothing, I'll just let the ship sink - nothing lost. The gold to use captaincy to repair the ship is negligible. If anything, maybe I'd grab my chains before letting the ship sink.
    • If I'm sneaky enough, I'd pretend that my ship's crew has already left game, and use a disguise at the outpost. Then, I might even steal their treasures/supplies. Or tuck on their ship for fun.
    • If I'm fishing, and I don't care to keep the flag, then I'd just sell my fish before other ships arrive. And then lower my flag.
    • If I'm fishing, and I want to keep my hunter's call flag, then I'd dive away before other ships arrive.
  • PvP can be avoided pretty easily the majority of the time with current game mechanics.

Some events(stationary) are inherently risky like the new Molten Sands Fortress or if Chest Of Fortune is in the FoF.
You can opt to accept that risk or not.
In regards to the Molten Sands the time limited rewards were set at a level where victory at the Fort is not required.

  • Sometimes when I want to sell and log off it seems like every outpost has a fresh spawn there.

I find this difficult to believe, as last few posts Ive seen always say "Servers are empty"
But then you also have, They are fresh spawn...so they mostly arent prepared, you could...Sink them or just roll up on them and ignore and sell. (what I do) and they dont bother with you or they sail away as you get close.

PvP is a choice, and if you fear it, most likely the other person fears it as well.

I was watching twitch drops and there is one streamer in particular that will just go around sinking people but doesn’t take their treasure

Streamer going for them Views. And you watched it :P

The game, Warns you of the threats when you begin. Very beginning of the game, PL talks with you and for next few moments, you drop a voyage, you raise a new emissary. A message displays of the "Dangers!" of the sea. They even mention, other pirates.

But some reason, that gets forgotten.
