Running lights or no running lights

  • Just curious. Which do you prefer and why.

  • The only times I've ever turned off the lanterns was for an achievement or commendation/event requirement.

As far as colors go, only times I do that is for the same reasons as the above lol

  • Lights out!

    Safety first

  • I feel like there are phases to the lantern on/off behaviour.

As a Swabbie, you don't know better - lights on.

As a more experienced player - lights off.

As a Veteran who doesn't care - lights on again.

You spot the difference between a "lights on"-Swabbie and a "lights on"-Veteran by their behaviour and ship cosmetics.

  • I always shut the lamps off, originally it was to be sneaky, but over time its just turned into how im used to seeing my ship to the point that even in a fight ill shut a lamp off if i see it on just reactively. It just feels weird to have lights on in my sloop any more.

  • Running Lights.
Too lazy to put them out and, players with good monitors and not blind can still see you regardless of lights. :/

  • It varies, at night it certainly shows up more prominently. I'll more do it based on my needs than worrying about other players, sometimes they glare, sometimes I can't see on the ship without them.

  • Light on nowadays, as is looks prettier.

Also lights on, no cosmetics and stupid sail management is a good way to lure in people into a fight. :)

  • Lights on once I get colors.
Because it's cool, and the players you need to worry about seeing your lights can see you anyway.

  • and sometimes im afraid that im overthinkin

  • @captainluke56

Lights off, though I know it doesn’t do much of anything.

I keep them on for hourglass though because there’s no point in turning them off at that point.

  • @thor-von-blitz
    Yes totally agree

  • I turn off top deck lights because they bug my eyes at night but below deck is too dark if they’re off.

  • I used to just keep them on.

And then my friend and I got chased by someone for 40 minutes. Into heavy storms, around islands, around rocks; We could not shake him. But he could not gain on us.
When it got dark again, we started sailing towards a different ship on the horizon, I put out all lights, and we heeled hard to port to go behind a large rock.

When I looked back, the chaser was still going forwards, towards the other lights on the horizon.

He may have just gotten sick of the chase, but I choose to think we tricked him by extinguishing all lights before making a dramatic direction change.
I mean, he had ignored 3 other ships previously to keep chasing us.

  • I keep them on because I'm lazy, but if tucking I'll take the time to turn them off

  • Lights out (harder to see helps a lot)

  • @captainluke56 red on left, green on right and white in the center. As naval law mandates.

  • lights off lurk in the shadows

  • Lights off. As a solo player who is mediocre at pvp. Sneaky plays are the only viable way for me to steal from others. Gotta stay in the dark.
