Cheater problem fix

  • I haven't read the forums at all, so I don't know if it was mentioned before, but the only real solution to steam pc cheaters (which while potentially not all the cheaters is a significant amount) is to restrict their access from steam directly. They are able to create multiple new accounts on xbox because they have the gateway to the game through steam. Rare needs to cooperate with steam and remove those players access, so that they have to buy the game again. Or force xbox to not allow multiple xbox accounts per pc. There are solutions, please focus on those, the content updates can wait. If you remove the cheaters the game will be thriving way more.
As another alternative you can also make an actually working anti-cheat, which will eliminate the problem almost completely.
Please spread the word, make it so that Rare employee see that and focus on that.

In another thread it was mentioned steam players are only 10k while total players is at least 344k, so not sure why you would come to a significant amount. Also (banned) players have been able to use another account before SoT was on Steam.

It's something that is mostly out of Rare's hands as it is MS, Sony and Steam Valve that allows this - not just for SoT. AFAIK they are in discussion with those.

    No, no it would not.

    • No program is flawless.
It can only 'see' what it's programmed to 'see'. Which means, when cheats are updated (Which they always are); they become invisible to the anti-cheat once more.
    • Cheats are made by people.
This means, when anti-cheat is updated to catch a certain cheating method; People make a new way to bypass the anti cheat until it's updated again.
    • Anti-Cheat is not sentient
What I mean by this is that an anti-cheat cannot make judgement calls or understand shades of grey.
Either you are cheating, or you are not cheating.
And if the anti-cheat is not programmed to find a cheat program; the person is thus not cheating to the anti-cheat.

steam pc cheaters (which while potentially not all the cheaters is a significant amount)

Uuuhh...You have any data on that? No?

They are able to create multiple new accounts on xbox because they have the gateway to the game through steam.

What? They can just make new xbox accounts. What does Steam have to do with it?

Rare needs to cooperate with steam and remove those players access, so that they have to buy the game again.

    That's on Valve.
If the cheater is on Xbox; Valve has no say in banning them.
And if the player is on Steam; They need to be reported to Valve to be banned on Steam.
Granted; That's cross-platform, and I don't know if VAC comes into play at that point. That's beyond my knowledge.

Please spread the word, make it so that Rare employee see that and focus on that.

I'm going to try to be polite, but your entire post reads as someone who has no idea how anti-cheat & cheating actually work.
You just said 'Working anti-cheat will fix the problem almost completely'. Which is something no one with technical knowledge would say because it won't.
It will help mitigate the problem, but there's no anti-cheat in existence that can fix the problem 'almost completely' without a dedicated moderation team, and also players reporting cheaters that make it through the cheat detection.

  • @guildar9194 sure, it would work flawlessly, but better than what we have, cause EAC is not doing any of the job in stopping them, as a matter of fact, innocent people get kicked for Anti-Cheat violation, while not cheating.
well your post looks like from someone who is either really enjoying posting here or has some connection to the rare, they should do a better job of keeping cheaters of, its not that hard, they are just ignoring it, just like lag on the servers. Like there is not even a point in reporting them cause they just make a new account. If you wanna see how frustrating cheaters are, go play some high elo hourglass, it should answear for itself

  • Ip ban seems to be best way to or hardware ban. Idk

Anyway you look at it. It’s gonna cause a problem for those innocent players mistaken for cheating and banned.

Ip ban ? There are VPNs that change your IP that can be detected by Rare. Besides, it would also hurt housemates or familymembers of cheaters, if they share the internet connection or of the cheater is not on a fixed IP address, people who are given that IP address the next day or week, while the cheater can continue on another one.

  • @vaiiya8707

cause EAC is not doing any of the job in stopping them

Just because you see one, five, or 10 cheaters does not mean it's not working.
What about the 20, 30, 40+ people it banned on login?

innocent people get kicked for Anti-Cheat violation

No anti-cheat is flawless. They can't be perfect until we give birth to perfect humans to make perfection.

well your post looks like from someone who is either really enjoying posting here or has some connection to the rare

I have no connection or Rare. I've butted heads with forum mods in the past. Someone at Rare would have to be on some wacky green to hire me.

they should do a better job of keeping cheaters of, its not that hard

Tell me, do you know what The Dunning-Kruger effect is? Because your speaking like someone on that graph.
You have 0 idea how anti-cheats & cheats work so, to you, it's 'not that hard' and Rare are clearly 'ignoring the problem' instead of waving their magical developer wand to fix it.

If Rare had some magical, flawless anti-cheat that could catch a majority of cheaters, regardless of how they are cheating or making cheats; Do you think they would ignore it?
They would make millions, if not billions selling said magical anti-cheat to every company making online games.

It's not 'that easy' to keep up with cheaters.
    It's literally an arms race:

    • Cheaters make a cheat.
    • Cheaters are reported in-game.
    • Rare verifies & bans
    • Rare figure out how they cheated. Update anti-cheat.
    • Cheaters make a new way to cheat/update the anti-cheat they already have.

So tell me; In that cycle I just mentioned; How do you make a program; A collection of 1's and 0's; An unthinking, unseeing collection of on/off bits and bytes find cheats it's not programmed to find?
I'll answer my own question: You cannot. Hence why it's not 'that easy' & player reports are required. Because there's 100's or 1000's of players per developer.
Players are part of the anti-cheat, so long as they don't think there's a magical solution the developers are just too lazy to use.

  • Every time this debate comes up about a working Anti Cheat... I tell my friends to go look up how many times (even in the past few days) Epic are taking cheaters to court even though they have Easy Anti Cheat built for their games and develop the software/games themselves...

It really is an arms race with people with lawless bedroom developers up against these game development companies.

    What do you mean?
According to armchair programmers; It's easy to ban any and all cheaters for all time by just updating the anti-cheat to do that!
Apparently it's some checkbox all software developers seem to miss. 😁

Edit: Sorry if this comes across as overly sarcastic/rude, but I saw this when I was in construction, too.

Client: I want this wall removed to open up the livingroom/dining room into one room.
Boss: ...This is a load bearing wall. We can't just remove it without altering the entire house
Client: Yes you can! Just shift the load elsewhere.
Boss: We'd have to rebuild your second floor and roof. It will cost at least double what we quoted on the phone.
Client: You can just change it! I'm not paying more!
Boss: And if I knock out that wall; You or, worse, me and my crew, will wear your house as a hat!

Because people did not understand what's involved in building a house, so they assumed 'Just make it happen' was a valid way of doing things.

  • @musicmee yes, but as you said they are at least "taking them to court", they are getting punished, I submitted 5 reports in the last couple days, none of the cheaters were banned, they are still actively online, cheating in SoT day after day while noone is doing anything about them. Sure its a sorta arm race, only Rare is not trying hard enough imo, even the reported once are not being taken care of.

Not seeing instant results ≠ nothing happening.
Do you really think people will be banned within 78 hours of a report?

There's only so many people to read reports & ensure the person was actually cheating.
I would bet hard cash at least half of all reports are someone salty they sunk & not actual cheats.

  • @guildar9194 there are that few people dedicated, cause Rare is greedy and focuses on emporium reskins over this. Also there isnt instant result, or any result, the cheaters are not being banned, if they are, 5 minutes later they are on with a new account. Sure, you might ban his account, but it will never stop them from making a new one. You are trying to defend it for no reason. Rare has a problem with cheaters, they know it, and ignore it.

  • @vaiiya8707 As you are now heading into complete misinformation territory, I will provide you with a link to the two latest dev updates where cheating issues are addressed so you can update yourself on the information in this area and with that I will also be dropping anchor on this thread here.
