Looks like you don't naturally check out sunken ships. There are other ways of getting them too, like the Fleets.

Apologies, but I'm a little confused; which shipwrecked chests do you think have barnacles on them and don't count towards your goal...?

All four of the primary chest types (Castaway, Seafarer, Marauder, Captain) have shipwrecked variants and all four count toward your Hoarder of Barnacled Gold commendation. I managed 300 in less than two years with a very organic "grab and go" playstyle and no grinding.

Also not sure how you've been playing for seven years since the game has only existed for six, but ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Do you sell to reapers more than to the factions? You have to sell to GH, reaper sells don't count.

I believe OP is referencing the fact that skeleton captain chests have barnacles, but don't count towards the commendation.

This is an important distinction to note. It's a GH commendation, so you need to sell to GH to progress it.

That's because sovereigns is a "middle man" to the factions.

I know, but for awhile it wouldn’t work at sovereigns. I checked about 2 months ago to be sure that it does go to the commendation and it definitely did.

If I were to guess, that was likely a bug. (Though, perhaps it wasn't and the original vision was that the commendations would require you to sell the hard way)

@tybald I think I’m the beginning it was either overlooked or was to be turned in the old way, but it works fine now.

For those of you disliking the grind. The fleet has been the easiest way I’ve gotten these.

How much are you playing? Shipwrecked chests are pretty frequent. I sell 5 or every session.
