What the title says. It happened twice now that all my loot on ship just disappeared when i got into matchmaking (under water)...
No Loot follows you when you Dive underwater, similar to using Portals. Only Resources stay.

This is only if you're defending your loot.

That is a mechanic for defending ships, as it stands, you have 2 options, quick raids where you can dive right after a battle assuming you have supplies to do so, or sailing around and stacking loot, it takes longer for some one to raid you than to opt into another attack, so you get loot for bonuses.
If you want to stack loot, then you wait for people to attack you, otherwise, if you want to dive, since you can do it as frequently as you can finish a battle, you dont need loot to boost you.
As explained above, once you activate the Hourglass and choose your faction, you are deemed as 'Passive' meaning you can be invaded by others looking for PvP.
Once you vote on the War Map, you are then 'Active' and dive for PvP.
Whilst 'Passive', you can collect loot, supplies, complete voyages etc but will be liable to be Invaded, if you defend your loot successfully and sink the invading crew, you will earn a bonus.
If you choose to vote on the War Map and dive, then it is essentially the same as using a Portal and all loot will be removed.
