Magical teleporting kegs??

  • Me and my crewmate sailed into a skelly fleet world event. We sank a couple of skelly ships. As we went after more...kaboom. I was knocked from our sloop by an explosion. Keg in the water? I didn't see any debris anywhere. I hopped a mermaid back. My crewmate was bailing and fixing. I joined him. Then we hear a fuse and another keg goes off. And about 30 seconds later, another fuse and another explosion. It happened a total of four times before we sank, and the last few were after our mast dropped, so we weren't moving and sailing into anything. It wouldn't be kegs in the water hitting the hull. We never actually saw the kegs, though, just heard the fuse and got hit by the boom. There were no other ships anywhere throughout the entire session. Not another player to be seen on our boat or in the water. No one appeared when the kegs were lit, and there were too many of them for it to just be one or two guys randomly swimming around with kegs in their hands. The skelly fleet spawned when we sailed into it, so no one else was nearby. There is no normal-game explanation for this.

What is going on here?? Is this some kind of bizarre bug or is there a new cheat out there for bozos to ruin other peoples' fun? And it happens the one time I don't have OBS running...

  • Sounds like a crew went with a rowboat play, probably brig or galleon

not super common but I have seen it happen.

  • A bunch of kegs and a rowboat is my guess.

  • There was no one nearby at all. We looked in the water around the boat. Not a soul to be seen in a rowboat and not another player ship spotted anywhere during the session.

  • Looks like there are a couple of guys in the "Recently played with" column that match up to the time, but we didn't see anyone, and two guys in a rowboat full of kegs just roaming about is something I've never seen before, and I've done a lot of kegging of my own.

  • You heard fuses, so you got outplayed by someone, that's all. Rowboats can be very hard to see depending on the waves.

Hiding a rowboat near a skeleton fleet seems like a good idea btw, I'm gonna steal this

  • @fatbeard1353 row a rowboat full of kegs towards the skelly fleet event, hide it around any of the rocks around the event (be it any of the big rocks or somewhere around the arena tavern)

Start jumping off with kegs (4 player galleon = 4 players swimming)

Swim deep enough not to be noticed

    Let the fireworks start.

Another way is to launch the kegs with harpoon rowboats, put keg in water and have the back of the rowboat towards target, one player harpoons the keg while another immediately shoots the harpoon. Keg goes flying.

Whil like any game sot does have cheaters any cheats that would mess with something the server controls like player positioning in the world is way to easily detectable and probably not even possible due to the server just saying NOPE you are not there you should be here and moving the player right back

  • Interestingly enough, I've seen multiple posts and reports recently (as in the last 24 hours or so) about invisible keggers. I don't think it's a sudden surge in impossibly sneaky rowboat keggers far away from their ship. There are videos of boats blowing up with no one around and lit kegs appearing out of nowhere.

    This is a new hack.

  • @fatbeard1353 Yep, I've seen video of kegs appearing out of nowhere so it does seem there is a legitimate cheat of some kind available. This is why video recording is important.

  • This happened to my crew last night. Two of us are were streaming so we have it recorded, but it was hard to work out who was doing it because there was two other ships around.

Does anyone know what is actually happening? Are there people in the sky dropping kegs? How do they seem to have unlimited kegs?

PS. This happened at a FoF and after we finished off the FoF, we opened to vault to find there was no loot inside. So I'm guessing it has something to do with clipping through the ground.

  • Yep it's hackers/ cheaters. Happened to us twice on different servers about 4hrs apart yesterday. Here's someone else's video, we got a heap of recordings ourselves.

    Some back story:

A while back (like months ago) I stumbled across a small youtube channel's video about a "glitch", which made him "lunge" into high up in the air, and far.
I am not a bug professional, but the movement he used while "flyin" wasn't something you would be able to do, even if it was just a lunge bug, so I suspect him of using either this same hack or its prototype.
(I can DM the link to his video, if it's still up)

I assume they position them selves above your ship, light the keg and only drop it when it's about to blow.
As for where they get the kegs, I suspect they get the from a nearby forts.
