NERF Skeleton Galleon's

  • I am absolutely tired of these absurdly overpowered and broken ships. I just spent 5 hours obtaining hundreds of resources and level 5 emissary just to be sunk in 1 minute by a skelly gelly, are you kidding me? I put more than 30 firebombs into them but they extinguish it within 15 seconds!? Literally NOTHING works on these broken ships, I can't bucket, I can't repair, I can't shoot back or do anything while they spam 5 cannon balls a second including cursed balls. Sure, they're not a threat to bigger crews, but me, in a solo sloop, minding my business, get's rammed by one after it jetteson's itself at 100m/s toward my ship, what am I supposed to do? Please get rid of their instant speed/turning mechanic, and reduce the amount of cursed balls they can use. It's stupidly overpowered and unnecessary. I sailed directly away from them but they caught up in a matter of seconds, and proceeded to ram me dealing many holes, rammed me a second and third time and then blasted me with cannonballs, water was filling up before I could even finish emptying my bucket. Seriously? Solo sloopers should have a faster bucket animation or be able to bucket more.... This is absurdly unfair for small crews.

You do know that skellie ships wont aggro unless you attack them first? Except for world event.
Also they are very prone to sailing on rocks and islands, so you can just sail around an island and skellie will shipwreck itself in couple of minutes.

  • Besides the cursed cannonball spam, nothing has to be nerfed about them, not everything has to be super easy in this game.

  • @cinnumann This is clearly not the case because I sailed away from them and they still rammed right into me.

  • Oh I remember the time I used to solo the fleets lol.

  • @univocalmango49 I can solo a skellie fleet without any issue...

PEOPLE! STOP REQUESTING FOR NERFS! THE GAME IS EASY ENOUGH ALREADY!

They sail in a certain route and when you're in theyr way it's bad luck...

  • @univocalmango49
I think it counts ramming as aggro and attacked you for that. Try to evade them and try that running around an island trick. I have sunk multiple skellie galleons solo just by running around Shark Bait Cove.

Some skeleton galleons can be super tough to sink. The tough ones usually have either plant skeletons or nighttime skeletons paired with a powerful green curse such as weary, jig, grog, etc.

Ok so let’s talk general strategy as a solo slooper if you happen to land yourself in a fight with a skeleton galleon.

#1 Mid deck holes will not begin to leak water until the entire lower deck is filled with water. This means all mid deck holes are completely pointless during the first half of the fight. Aim for lowers.

#2 Firebombing the top deck works great at keeping the skeletons off of cannons. Shoot a flare first if dealing with nighttime skeletons.

#3 Avoid the open ocean when fighting skeleton galleons as a solo slooper. You need to put your ship in a position that grants you time to repair damage without constantly being pummeled.

#4 If close to a large island for example use it to your advantage. Raise sails parallel along the shoreline. Skeleton ships are programmed to circle ships while firing at them. The galleon’s AI will repeatedly circle the entire large island giving you plenty of time to repair in between attacks.

#5 If you’re not close to a large island and you need to repair your ship immediately just ram the galleon and stay on the wheel. The galleon will try to turn left or right, you turn your ship with it keeping contact with the galleon. If you’re maintaining contact and are locked in a turn with the galleon you won’t get hit by cannonballs giving you time to bucket fully and repair.

#6 Do not get knocked off. If you see a ton of cannonballs about to hit top deck immediately go below deck to avoid being knocked off your ship.

#7 Barrelballs which are terrible in PvP actually work great against skeleton ships. Barrelballs prevent skeletons from repairing for a limited time. This can help get that lower deck full of water.

There are more tips but that’s all I have time for at the moment.

    Good luck.

Thanks, this is very useful info.

  • If you can't sink a skeleton ship, I'm guessing if they nerf this, in the next post you'll be asking for PvE servers...

This is normally correct but I think there may be a bug since they came back where they can aggro from greater distances.

I had a skelly sloop last weekend that aggroed on my ship from about two islands over (I was passing the north east of Cannon Cove and it was at Sanctuary). I heard the music first and looked over to see it bee-lining towards my ship from such a distance. Very odd behaviour.

Only explanation I have is that maybe it had sunk another player ship and was "aggro searching" or something. But this has only happened once to me and I laughed it off. In hindsight, I should have recorded it to report it but I was just so perplexed at the time.

As for the OP, just keep sailing, they do eventually stop following. Or fight them. Skelly Galleons are one of the only real remaining non-player challenges left for solo sloopers and you learn some tricks to deal with them over time.

  • @realstyli
Sounds like a bug or something. I have never had skellie ship aggro on me unless I attack it first. Or maybe they are experimenting with aggressive skellie ships. Who knows :D

  • @cinnumann

If your on a brig or gallon skeleton galleon can just spawn randomly beside you.

OP might be talking about that

Can also happen on a sloop. Very rare but it does happen. I think I've only ever had that two or three times... last time I had it was a few weeks ago, I was doing a Thieve's Haven Run and there was a player galleon nearby - so it's possible one or other of those things affected the RNG.

  • @ottyman8687
He said he is playing solo so I don't think that is the case.

If I had a theory it would be that the sea forts have affected them by being in their original pathing. The aggro area might be still following the pathing and miss-aligned with the skelly ships. Would also explain why I've seen them sail past me really close without getting aggroed.

  • @realstyli
I usually aggro them on purpose when I play. I enjoy the pure sea battle which they provide compared to PvP where boarding is way too regular. So I'm not the best person to judge their behavior since I aggro them on purpose almost every time I encounter one.

    @targasbr

Let’s try to make the forums a friendly place. Let’s avoid making assumptions about others or judging others for having difficulty sinking skeleton galleons.

I myself had to learn how to approach them as a solo player. I know first hand they can feel OP at times.

I wasn't rude at any point, I just mentioned what's likely to happen. Some people tend to evolve and improve their skills, others just want to complain.

  • There more to this story.

Like what ship were they on.
Was it one of the skeleton fleets?
Did they get to close to one?

But we only get the ending.

  • Im thinking fleet from the type of aggression. Most roaming/spawning skelly ships don't spam CCB's.

  • Be more pirate they are really not that difficult.

  • Some of the Curse Cannonball combos are ridiculous, the worst I've seen is what I've dubbed the Jim Morrison. Grog and Weary combo, literally can't repair under that kind of assault on any type of ship with any number of crewmates.

  • @pithyrumble The roaming ones I have fought since their return have been spamming CCBs. Thankfully they have been mostly grog balls which are obnoxious but not detrimental.
