Remove the option to disable crossplay

  • With this game being 4 years old next month I think it’s now best to remove the option to disable crossplay. I think it would be better because there’d be more players to search from in a specific region and faster search times.

  • Plenty of players still play this game for crops play to not be detrimental.

Playing against PC players isn’t fun for most people in most cases so I definitely wouldn’t be down for this. Also match times aren’t as much as an issue for Sea of Thieves as they are for other more competitive games. Since you’ll usually stay in a server once you find one you like.

  • As someone who plays on PC and has played on both XBox and PS4, console players don’t stand a chance against a competent PC crew. No thanks, let the console players stay where they are comfortable

  • Particularly, I always found this option a problem, because the seas are increasingly empty... However, I don't see xbox players crying anymore, so I'm happy.

Those who are really good at the game don't activate this option, so it's ok.

  • I know Xbox players who give a beating on PC players, or have balanced skills, just as there are PC players, who play for a long time, but still have no idea what they do in the game

  • After playing Sea Of Thieves on Xbox for three years and PC for around eight months I can definitively say that the 'Disable Crossplay' toggle was a worthy addition to the game. As an Xbox player it was easy to see the clear advantage that PC players had (Especially prior to the double-gun nerf) and on PC I certainly feel like I'm more competent at the game. Whilst I would love to see more people grace the scarce Aussie PC servers with their presence, forcing Xbox players to play with PC players is definitely not the way to go about it.

Though this is not the hill I'd die on, I think the only fair way to get rid of the option to disable crossplay would be to give Xbox players some minor aim assist.

No thanks. Console players have it so rough. I play on Xbox, like, once a year and I have trouble even shooting skeletons. Of course, with practice comes power, I guess I could eventually do pretty good. But Keyboard & Mouse GrumpyW01f will kick Controller GrumpyW01f's butt no matter how much practice Controller GrumpyW01f has.

The ability of people to play controllers better than others allows for PvP on those servers. I know a pirate that was very good in Arena and played on controller. So it is possible to do great, but very hard.

Currently, if those on Xbox servers even have one crewmate that isn't on console with a controller, they all have to move to PC servers which is still a big risk for controller players.

Rare made the option to disable crossplay for a reason. A reason that still stands today. There's no way that is changing unless that reason changes.

  • Xbox player: nah im good sailing the seas on days where I meet nobody.

I see people complaining about always meeting players and being sunk a lot. Mean while I’m over here on a console, peaceful days. :p

But if I feel the need. I’ll jump to pc/Xbox servers.

  • Coming from a PC player I can promise you XBOX players would not stand a chance against good crews simply due to differences in hardware making it blatantly unfair for them to have to play that way.

Second and more relevant to your point this game has no queue times or shortage of players to fill servers. If the day comes when player shortage is a thing than sure but till than the seas are still booming!

The emptiness of servers has nothing to do with lack of players but ever increasing map size (outskirts pushed + DR) with only 5 ships per server and 15 players max making the world feel empty.

  • @thc-methods maybe if pc servers weren’t full of try hards who only pvp we would come over. Until then I’ll stay right here and not get sunk by a mouse and keyboard every ten minutes :)

  • I rather not play with PC players from my console. I stopped playing other games that forced cross-play for this reason.

  • XBox player here, playing on Crossplay server only with a controller and a chatpad attached to it. That chatpad is the main reason I stay on Crossplay servers...it doesn't work on XBox servers...I use it to write ingame and I got almost for all tools a keybind on that chatpad, which is very useful and fast
In general, PC players only have an advantage in personal combat, not in naval combat...but still I'm against this idea, let XBox players play just with XBox players if they want...

  • Ah OK, so you want everyone on the seas together. As originally intended.

I agree, have always agreed. I would certainly like to meet less PC sweats and have it go back to being a nice social playerbase.

  • @thc-methods I would love to be crossplay as long as K&M are disabled and everyone uses a controller. That should be how crossplay with PVP element should be made. Simple isn't it?

  • There's plenty of players - and SOT Partners - that play on controller and lay waste to most KBM players.

Sure, the ceiling is higher on KBM...but there's not that many players that are at the ceiling in SOT.

I play on a Series X with an Elite controller and have been accused of hacking and using an aimbot on more than one occasion. I just have a heavy FPS gaming background that's all.

That said, the big difference is in frames per second for even the best controller players. I went from an Xbox One X to a Series X...that jump from 30fps to 120fps on my gaming monitor was INSANE for combat improvement in SOT.

It truly is a disadvantage playing on an Xbox One, even for the best controller player. It's massively unfair that the next gen consoles are allowed to play on Xbox only servers if I'm honest.

They should reduce it to Xbox ONE servers and then everyone else is crossplay. Just my opinion.

Really interesting that the chatpad doesn't work on Xbox servers. I use a usb keyboard for chat on Xbox only servers all the time.

Maybe for chat it works...don’t know, didn't try...but that's not the problem, it's about the keybinds...
Makes actually perfect sense that I can't use my keybinds on XBox servers...would be pretty unfair

  • After playing on PC and now the Series X, I feel like trash at this game compared to PC. It's WAY unfair for console players to go up against PC. I would absolutely wreck people on PC. Arena is the perfect example. With PC players I get absolutely trashed on now every single time against PC. The option to enable Xbox only is VERY needed.

  • @ninja-naranja Isnt fun on most cases?
Woah the stats for opting out do not support that.
The vast majority of console players enjoy the game as it is and dont see it as a problem.

  • Primarily play on console myself, never disable crossplay, do just fine with it. I was always against the split, but it exists now and I don't see that changing any time soon (or ever). Also play with PC players when I'm not rocking solo and I tend to do better than them since your average PC player is not some all powerful force.

To each their own at this junction - I'll keep on playing the way the game was originally designed, in Adventure in a crossplay environment.

  • @faceyourdemon guess I should’ve said in my personal experience, since everyone I know opts out.
