Game crashes and graphic bugs after updating to Windows 11 from Windows 10

  • I installed Windows 11 over my Windows 10. Not the best idea, as I now realize with Sea of Thieves. Other games work fine, only SoT has problems.

It crashes sporadically and every now and then I have graphics bugs. To see in the video:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5167FI6LF-g

Files are damaged and I should contact the support. To see at the screenshot:

Now a list what I have already tried:
-I reinstalled the game several times, via the Windows Store.
(Deleted it, then reinstalled it. But it downloads it really fast, way too fast. So I guess it was never really deleted. So I installed it to D:\ and then copied it over to C:. Unfortunately also without improvement).

    • Out of desperation SoT on Steam additionally bought and tried, however it crashes there too. (Files are also corrupted here and Steam downloads again after checking.((Don't worry, am still under 2 weeks and under 2 hours, so can still return it)). )
    • The graphics card driver reinstalled, Nvidia in the current version:
      496.13-desktop-win10-win11-64bit-international-dch-whql
    • Added SoTGame.exe and the whole WindowsApps folder to Kaspersky's exceptions.
    • Kaspersky completely deactivated.
    • deleted the Athena folder in %localappdata*.

Unfortunately all without success. Does anyone else have an idea what I can do?

On Windows 10 SoT ran fine a week ago, so I suspect SoT / Windows 11 has a permissions or settings problem somewhere that was incorrectly converted when updating to Windows 11.

  • i have same problem. I try a lot ways fix it. But game still crashes. I can enter the game but when I get on the boat the game crashes.

  • The same happens to me after updating to Windows 11. I can start the game and manage to load into the server, but the moment I hit Tab or try to move around the game crashes. I even received an Error message telling me that there are missing or corrupt data files that is required for the game to run.

I tried to fix this through Steams game file verification, but that did not help. I even tried to whitelist the game and folder in Microsoft Windows Security.

  • Not much help I'm afraid, but I can confirm that on a clean install of Windows 11 both the Steam and Windows/Xbox Store versions work fine on my machine

  • Same here, can't play on windows 11 =(
