I played a lot when the game came out, hungering deeps, skeleton thrones... Grinded my butt to reach 40/40/40 and then took a break only coming back every once in a while for updates. About a year ago I got myself to 49/49/49 it was really easy compared to how it used to be. Today I got from 49 to like 53 in one gilded voyage... What the hell. My friend played today for the very first time and he's already 20+ in everything and sits on 200k gold after one afternoon of playing? There's not even any motivation to grind money anymore... I mean I know it's a double gold weekend or whatever but it's still WAY TOO MUCH even if I divide it by two. Wish I actully finished the grind back in the beginning because back then it felt good to get a rank up. Used to take me like 200 or 300 hours to reach the rank 40. Why did they change it so much? Getting Pirate Legend now means absolutely nothing compared to what people had to do in the past. It honestly didn't even feel good hitting it after those almost 3 years because it felt like I enabled some cheats for the final 10 levels. Sorry for the rant I had to vent somewhere.
Becoming Pirate Legend is a joke easy now, why?
Yeah, I think it took me about 3 months to save enough gold for my first ship set(perhaps 9 or 10 months to PL), now I've got millions with nothing to spend it on. Although there are a lot more things to do to keep you busy these days. There is quite a bit more for new players to learn now, so I guess that's just a different type of progression.
@wolfmanbush said in Becoming Pirate Legend is a joke easy now, why?:
I don't know why people look at Pirate Legend like it's the final chapter in the story when it's just the end of the prologue and the beginning of chapter 1
Pirate Legend is just a participation prize for learning how to play the game. The pages of glory are still yet to be filled.
He clearly is not aware of how this types of games work, Pirate Legend was so hard to achieve before, because we didn't had much to do after.
Nowadays we have more stuff to do, and the developers don't want us to waste an entire year to finish the first chapter of more to come.
The grind for those back in day was honestly kinda painful. Burnt me and my friends out and caused us to take a lengthy break. The hell of weeks of clucking , pigs crying and snakes hissing for five or six hours at a time as we got so little rep for merchant is something only early players can understand lol.
PL title was a joke when the first PL cheesed their way to it. That is why I do not pay attention to titles or leaderboards in games. However PL for me is not about the title its about the experiences on the game, the good and bad and the friends you made along the way. Sure getting it in 22 hours to me goes against all that but hey some people just want to rush through games, that's their choice. I coulda got to PL quicker myself even back when it was a major grind but I play for fun. Only reason we seriously grinded Merchant was not for PL but one of our crew mates really wanted the lev 50 set.
As far as the much much easier grind now well in my opinion Rare did need to speed it up so I am not particularly bothered by it.
Me and my mate bought this game at Christmas in the Steam sale. We are loving it, even with the griefing (we get annoyed, but we want to improve).
We’ve already put 100+ hours into the game, and just hit PL due to the double gold/rep weekend. All but Merchant seemed fairly easy, but we wanted PL as we see it as the start of our pirating adventures, the more challenging stuff.
We still have a bunch of TT’s to do, commendations etc. But tbh we look at PL as the true beginning of the game, rather than the end.
This of course is just a newbie’s belief. Everyone has their own perspective and this game now has a mind boggling amount of stuff to do.

aye i agree it's very easy but i guess they want people to be done idk
You could also just...ya know...not grind?
I've never really understood people's compulsion to grind stuff out. By calling it a grind, you are implying its stuff you dont enjoy doing. Why are you doing it then? When my duo partner and I hit pirate legend, it took us over a month to do the 5 thieves haven runs for the costume. Could we have just done them all in a row? Of course, but that's not very fun so we did them as we felt like it.
Furthermore, you seem to be saying pirate legend being easier to get now than it was is bad. Why? If it was a grind before, meaning you had to do things you didnt enjoy, why is it bad that there are more options for people now? Because you had a self inflicted rough time that means everyone else should have the same experience? I'm honestly confused about what your point is.

Pirate legend never meant anything to begin with.
Ive killed countless pirate legends before i was one myself.
You already got stuff for sticking the game out at launch.
This is why I refer to the Pirate Legend outfit as the "graduation gown" and if someone now has the Pirate Legend title, I assume they're actually pretty new.
I made Pirate Legend two weeks before the cutoff for the 1st Anniversary rewards. It was slow, but I felt more pride in having reached it - especially as I did a lot of it solo. By that point, I knew the map back to front and while my PvP wasn't great (still isn't), I was able to naval pretty competently and, when I did sail with a crew, I was a really good tactician.

and yet if you look at the achievement:
Become Pirate Legend
You became a Pirate Legend!Only 2.55% of gamers unlocked this
so less than 3% have become pirate legend. this, perhaps, means that they should make it easier to become pirate legend.
That's a percentage of all the players who ever booted up the game. Considering it's on Game Pass, there are more than likely a lot of players who just played once because they could and never came back. If that data was culled to only players who have more than even 10 hours, I would say you'd see a significant difference.
agree with most here...
Its horizontal progression, all came and comes by the way.
Levels or Titles - thank the old mother - mean nothing!
It's about the fun - if you have some - and not when you hit this or that level or title or how easy it is today or hard it was back then.
I for over 2 years have the most wanted stuff in this game, from founder stuff, to preorder set to early event cosmetics to year one PL, Shrouded Ghost Title, now the golden M Eyepatch and whatnot...
So i really dont play it for any levels or cosmetics or acihevements and commendations mainly, because i mostly have them already, but because it's fun to me and immersive and just a cool game and because i met honorable pirates at sea who i call my mates and sail with up to today.the game is popular, the game is successfull, the game has lots of more players, it has tons of content if you rate the journeys, tales and repetetive tasks aka commendations you are asked to do more than once content -
and dont get me wrong you can like it - but the way many gamers aproach the SoT makes me a little bit sad to be honest.I hope to meet more dread pirates, but nice players you laugh with at the ferry even if you fought hard.
I hope for some more "for fun players" and less tryharding and trashtalking, what it all to comon in PvP today.
I like PvP, we are often successfull, we dont attack everyone, but we may attack at will, we safe people, we talk to people, we help people and we sink people and we are allways "polite and empathic" as players and human beeings behind a monitor.Ok i'm drifting away :D
tl;dr ☠bemorepirate☠ aka play for fun, play together even if you play against each other!
appreciate your journey!
accept the random character of the game and dont grind it.
you can focus on stuff, but dont grind like if there is no Ashen Wind then be it so, if there is no Emissary to hunt so be it, If you get an Athena journey with a bad route accept it, no golden chicken, headwind, REaper 5 scanning the Sea for you do it anyway. This way i say i met the Shrouded Ghost, because i deal with what the Sea of Thieves throws at me, i didnt grind anything - ok to be fair, i was hooked for the Athena cutlass, i grinded this no doubt - but most of the stuff just came by the way having a pirate adventure!
i hope this to some makes sense ;)@d3adst1ck sagte in Becoming Pirate Legend is a joke easy now, why?:
You can be the worst player of all time and get to Pirate Legend eventually because there is never a way for your progression to be reversed.
some "feature" of old games i liked a lot i have to say!
losing levels allways felt immersive and challenging in old games!Me and many of my friends started playing Sea of Thieves since launch... they all stopped playing at some point. Even though I also took a break from time to time, only I remained with the game as mostly a solo player. I've come a long way and hitting PL a few weeks ago was about time and it made me meditate about the first voyages and adventure I had with my friends and random people across the sea. I felt somewhat relieved and was at peace...... until that silly vulcano on morrow's peak erupted and totally ruined the moment... but still...

If you think that's bad, wait to you see the alliance servers people do lol It's crazy seeing people hit max rank is such little time.
Especially since they're all like, "now what?" and don't understand the true meaning behind the game, or that they inadvertently ruined that experience for themselves.
damn you've doused by good comments here, but still goes another sand grain.
The more the game stays on and developp (which i hope will continue with time more and more and not stagnate), the more there will be end-game content which means more content to unlock after pirate legend, so it make sense to be easier in accesibility or else most of the end-game content will never be enjoyed by most of the players.
Of course at the begining it was a huge deal, there were no other end-line challenge. Now that they have plenty of them and will add more and more, it seems reasonable to make that grow.I've taken back the game recently with 3 other friends and i also feel like we're winning gold easier and espacially them are gaining much gold for beginners. And you know what ? i think it's good.
The lurning curve is steep in this game, players can be complete duches, and begin in this (espacially solo) was kinda nightmarish at some moment back in the days. They gain a great deal of gold, there are happy with it, and so they switch on very quickly to the '' whatever no salt needed, no frustration to reatin, it's just skin '' when we loose, and very joy crying out loud when we cash a huge load of treasure, going fashionnistas with the lot of skin they're gonna buy.As a solo slooper back in the days, i got a very harsh experience, feeling like my afternoon of digging treasure was ruined on the first 14 years old crew withc high pitch voices yelled at me when they stabbed me in the back when i cashed back my treasure, if kraken or megalodon haven't take care of this already. I've done plenty of salt, much frustration and almost leave the game if players on this forum haven't answer me with cleaverness and insight and when i had come to dicht out my anger.
So overall when the ton of cosmetics to grind, a lot of things to acquired and a very harsh game on some ways which look treachary simple, i'm pretty happy that new players along with my friends can jump on the game soon and enjoy it from the beginning, get the right mentality soon and learn from it, aslo can buy quickly skins they want in a row at first.Side note : i've never grind to get on legend pirate, i just play the game and just cash on gems to merchant alliance, thanks to this i rank up without aiming to my reputations ; if you clamp up like a crab to a name in a video game just to feel more worthly or superior, you should visit a specialist and revaluate some aspects of your life
This all makes me think of the first Pirate Legend the game ever saw. How'd they do that again, oh yeah they jumped servers cashing in others pre stacked loot then dipped out to the next session with loot waiting for them.
It was all down hill after this premise was set and rewarded for. It spurred others to do the same as well as find and ask for alternate ways to level up faster.
Thus, over time, with easier to obtain loot, hitting Pirate Legend has slowly become a more and more lacklustre but still necessary achievement to reach.@tempestbob-shop a dit dans Becoming Pirate Legend is a joke easy now, why? :

I wanna redraw some of my previous statement. In 3 years of gameplay i've hit PL like today, and my friends which have begun the game 10 days ago were almost PL before me (to 3 days difference i think they'll hit PL).
It doesn't make any sense to call it legend anymore. I like my buddies and they're good for starting so early but in a overall game level they're big noobs.
Encounters 8 Legendary skin with them against us (half on sloop), 6 of them have flee and one have just hit all the damn reefs and island he could serve us the free kill on a silver plate. It's not Sea of Quieter or Sea of Scrubs, and i really like the idea that you can visually identify against which you gonna pull an hard time and a good fight.Rewarding skill and experience by give it visability for other players, emissary objetcive like, is a good deal.
Have a title, something that plays out around the legend of a pirate and the greatest sailors in the seas is pretty good. So if there isn't any kind of particular reason to give PL to everybody, like a new advanced capitaincy to allow more access to end-game content, let's just stop this mess.
Smoothen the process a litlle was mandatory, give it to anybody free is not the way.Also...

Only 2.55% of gamers unlocked this.Yeah, take away all the player non active from less than 20 hours on the game, and then look at all the player who acheive this goal the last year and the last 6 months. I bet on 15% and 30%
Also, does the legend in our world are more than 3% of our daily life ? It doesn't call legend for decoration. So yeah, even if that was true, that make sense, much more than a 30 hours player at msot who just began the game (yes i coach them but i don't spoil them the game, don't take the lead most of the time and let them do their mistake before explaining so...)
well this now depends completly on what the user does such as if they do flameheart 24/7 they will get good levels because flameheart provides all three of the factions required to get pirate legend (GH,MA,OOS) because the chest include chests of the damned, ashens of the damned, Skulls of the damned (all of which include the upgraded versions of items) i mean just read this description of flameheart https://seaofthieves.gamepedia.com/Ghost_Fleet
