Outpost picking + buyable crates

  • Might be cool if when we are logging onto a server we could choose which outpost we could spawn at instead of randomly choosing an island or maybe even just pick the area you want to spawn so say you want to spawn in the wilds you pick the winds and it chooses a outpost in the wilds to spawn you at

Also what might be cool is if we where able to buy storage crates off the merchant or treasure chests off gold hoarders that are of course empty so you just cant get like 500 cannon balls right when ya spawn

  • The reason it picks for you is because the server will try to place you at an outpost that isn't being used. Picking an outpost will just lead to a lot of cases of players spawning on top of ships cashing in loot.

  • Buying boxes would unbalance the game a lot, I have a lot of gold that I can't spend, while newbies have nothing

  • @desiringplace14 I think if the crates cost like 10,000 coins, then when it is needed for other ppl of great money, they cud just buy it.

  • @triheadedmonkey when did i break the rules? if i remember correctly then all i said is that even as small as 1% of your gold is insanely high.

  • I really like the idea of outpost picking because there a times I have something mind in what I want do in a certain area and it would be great to sail 5 minutes vs the 10-15 minutes from another location and face the possible hazards of Kracken, Skelly ships,
Megs and players before your adventure ever begins. Yes being a new spawn and being attacked less than 2 minutes before you leave the outpost and don’t forget the amount of times your heading to an outpost to turn in and a new spawn appears as your less than a minute away.

It was brought up though everyone would pick plunder outpost as there spawn point to hunt thieves haven runs. Ie Athena emissaries.
The crates purchases would be cool but the price is ridiculous that your are suggesting. I would rather have a reasonable upgrade amount to your ships start with an empty crate aboard. No specialty crate you can sell.

  • In addition to being unfair to new pirates, having the ability to buy crates also allows you to circumvent barrel placement on your ship. For example, placing a crate of cannonballs right next to your cannons the moment you spawn in instead of earning it by exploring or sinking another crew.

If you don't like the outpost you were placed at, then jump servers if you want.

  • This is not very smart. I get where your coming from and for a while I had the same idea but think about this. If you have a merchant crate that holds cannon balls you could just buy cannon balls from the outpost and fil it up and boom within a day you have 75 merchant. Like I said the idea is good but if they did add it 1. There would be a op exploit (the one explained above) 2. They would have to remove merchant crates (But tbh no one uses them so it would not be much of a loss) 3. Depending on the price a new player can get easily out gunned if you can just buy barrel fills of supplies with the money that a new player would kill for. But it is a good idea on paper but you gotta think do the sacrifices and things this could break/overpower.

  • Would be nice to be able to have a preferred outpost to spawn at, especially if they're not planning on getting rid of the annoying wake up animation every time you join a server. It just wastes like 10 seconds of my time when looking for a specific outpost.

  • @targasbr Maybe for like the first ever time you start the game. Cash in even 1 or 2 chests thats your storage crate fund sorted though.

Its not worth 10,000 gold for an empty box. Even if i had the money I wouldnt sink 10k gold on something i can get for free from a skelly ship.

  • @daringclarky Imagine that I just joined a server, Fort of the Damned active, you doing it. Do you really think it would be fair for me to arrive with some 200 cannonballs while you spent everything defending your fort from other players or on the boss

If its just an empty storage crate you buy and no supplies, i wouldnt be bothered.

I never run out of resources anyways.
I usually have around 1000 cannonballs at any one point on my solo sloop. I just grab a crate, sail to shores of gold, scuttle, load, scuttle, load and leave 5 minutes later with 1000 lol.

Come on dude, use your brain just a little bit.
Obviously the server would be able to identify which outposts are already taken or has a ship near enough so you can't spawn there.
Because Rare would totally add sucha system without fixing that first....

Why don't you use YOUR brain. Do you want players coming into the server to know your relative location like that without opting into the Reaper system and before they've even spawned into the game?

  • @daringclarky

With boxes purchased, the time it would take to loot the outpost can be 4x less, giving the attacker an advantage. In Dagget Tooth, if the boxes are buyable, it would be possible to loot in a matter of seconds. Imagine filling the ship with resources in seconds, then just go south and steal the Fort of the Damned from a crew that didn't have time to prepare.

In this game, everything that makes a difference must be earned on merit, not money. Tools, not rules.

Never thought of it like that.
    You have a good point.

Ye sure. Why not. Then i might actually get some action.

But why would you wanna attack people who are at an outpost? You know they've sold or just started anyway.
    So use YOUR brain. kthx.

Because it gives you information on which ships are near which outposts. I could write out a lengthy explanation of why this is a bad thing, but I think it would probably be beyond your comprehension.

    Nice execuse.
"I could explain my argument, but it's to smart for you."
    Gg dude.

Guess i shouldn't have skipped all those classes back in school.
Im just a mouthbreathing M1 spammer hurr durr, im dumb, can't comprehend this highly educational and sophisticated responses. It's beyond my 50IQ duuhhh.

Like get outta here if you not gonna explain your arguments. It's a FORUM after all. If you can't be bothered, then go do something else.

  • @ocean-santa5827 Thanks for proving my point re: not putting in effort to reply.
